Oil Change Interval for VW

I know we’ve flogged this subject endlessly but let me flog it one more time. VW has assured me that the service interval for my 2026 Taos is 15,000 kms or one year. This assurance is given providing that I always ( and they do mean always! ) use the VW synthetic spec VW508.00/509.00 SAE 0W-20 motor oil. Does anyone have any experience that brings into question this 15,000km interval?

Dealing with persistent AC refrigerant leaks - Is this common?

Has anyone else dealt with this? My Taos is constantly leaking refrigerant, and it continues to leak every week even after being "fixed" by the dealership.

I am incredibly frustrated. I have a pregnant wife and a small child, and it’s exhausting paying monthly payments for a car that offers no relief from the heat. I really love the AWD, the driving dynamics, and the interior legroom, but I am currently booking my 7th service visit for the same AC issue from new and the car has less than 80,000 km on it.

I feel like I’m being punished for buying this car. Has anyone experienced anything similar, or does anyone have advice on how to handle this with Volkswagen?

While I have an extended warranty, it doesn’t compensate me for the endless time wasted or the miserable, sweltering drives my family and I have to endure.

Rant over,

Sorry hope you all have a great weekend

Do anybody has problems with the wipers go on by itself? Even when it is off and the automatic rain sensor is off.

Clock loosing seconds each day and windshield wipers start when isn’t raining, randomly and annoying.

2022 Taos black dash

2022 vw Taos 1.5L

My wife went to start her car today and the dash was completely black besides the check engine light, red caution light, and the glow plug light. Funny thing is, its definitely not a diesel.

The car starts but I have to actually hold the start button. The dash stays black, car beeps like the a normaly warning light beep. The 3 light stay solid not flashing. I hooked it up to a code reader and it say U0155 code.

With all this being said, what can I check myself that I wont need to tear the car apart? It is currently our only car so I need it fixed ASAP for as cheap as possible

Be aware 2023 Taos rear doors rust

Found rust on our 2023 Taos and thankfully it will be covered under warranty. I guess this is a known issue but for anyone who doesn’t know, check your rear doors. So far we’ve had the head gasket replaced and now the rear doors will be replaced.

More money for a diagnosis

Look at this BS message I just got from the service advisor at my local VW service dept.
Took it in because the check engine light came on, plus the EPC light, and when you drive it a while another message saying it wont go past 4000 rpms.
When I took it in they said it would be $150 for the diagnosis. Now they want over $500 for “additional testing”.
In other words, they don’t know a damn thing.
Any advice?

OTA update not showing in app?

Few days back, my car updated, standard procedure of downloading in the background then h allowed it to update when I turned it off one night. System info is now showing the 0890, which after googling correlates with the newest version or software update push they put out. All good and fair.

I was curious what it all entailed so I went to the app into the service tab, then ota updates, and it’s not showing this most recent update at all. Only thing it’s showing is one from August of last year, oula 01. Is there any reason for this? Is something wrong or is the lag/delay normal?

6mo with worn tires?

So I went and did the two recalls. I have a 25 S. They told me the tires will need to be replaced soon. I only have 13k miles on it. There is no they’re that worn down can they? Most of the mileage is highway driving. They didn’t indicate anything else wrong with it, so I question if they really are. Plus I don’t know how to measure it. Or are just trying to make money?

Edit: So the kid told me the wrong thing, or he’s stupid. All it is a little wearing on the outside right front tire. Tire shop said an alignment would probably resolve that, and that there’s a ton of tread left. Said the tire has 10/32 on the top of all four.

2025 Taos - losing faith - transmission

Hello,

Purchased a 2025 Taos in 2025 from the dealership, this was a demo car so it already had 9000km on it.

Issues we’ve had so far:
December 2025 and February 2026 we had the same warning come up “transmission in emergency mode - you can continue driving”. Neither of these occurrences caused a check engine light. Neither time did it seem to cause any issues with the driving. Both times I took the car to the dealership - the first time they said there was no codes on the car and as the warning had disappeared after a few minutes they said there was nothing they could do, and to take a photo of the warning next time. Second time it happened I took a photo; took it in I got this on the report:

“NO TRANMISSON CODES WERE PRESENT UPON SCANNING VEHICLE HOWEVER, THERE WERE A FEW CODES FOR INSUFFICENT AIR FLOW IN BANK ONE. PERFORMED THE TEST PLAN GIVEN BY ODIS.
SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM TEST
PERFORMED TEST PLAN

1- GENERAL INSECTION - PASSED

2- SECONDARY AIR ACUATOR TEST - PASSED

3- PRESSURE SESNOR TEST - PASSED

4- END TEST IF NO FAULTS FOUND, NONE WERE FOUND CUSTOMER TO MONITOR CONCERN AS NO MALFUNCTION CAN BE MONITORED AT HOME”

Then in March 2026 we got a check engine light. No transmission warnings this time.
And the report shows this:

“VERIFIED CUSTOMER CONCERN. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON.
CONNECTED THE BATTERY CHARGER, SCANNED THE VEHICLE WITH ODIS. FOUND N112- SECONDARY AIR INLET VALVE WAS PRESENT. RAN THE TEST PLAN, RESULT POSSIBLE MALFUNCTION CAUSE
-THE HARNESS CONNECTOR IS NOT OK.
-CORROSION
CHECKED THE VOLTAGE AT THE CONNECTOR. CHECKED CONNECTOR T2AR/2 WITH CONNECTOR DISCONNECTED RESULT AT 14.29V. CHECKED CONNECTOR T2AR/1 RESULT AT 2.39V. THEREFORE, THE N112 SECONDARY AIR INLET VALVE IS DETECTED.”

Now we’re in June 2026. My husband was leaving work on Friday and the car started but a warning flashed up and the check engine light was on, the warning said something along the lines of “transmission error, do not drive”. The car fired up but no gear would engage. Whatever the stick was moved to it would never leave N. After 30 mins of turning the car off and on multiple times it allowed him to drive it, and he drove it straight over to the dealership with the engine light still showing.

They straight up refused to even code check it there and then and told us we needed to come back Monday. By Monday, engine light has gone off again and there was no issues over the weekend.

I’m just waiting on the car now, it’s been with them for 2 hours already but I’m losing faith in them and this vehicle.

Drive Mode Advice

I'm shopping for a car and the VW Taos is at the top of my list. I just test drove a 2023 Taos, and I was a bit put off by the transmission handling. I've certainly heard about such concerns, so I wasn't entirely surprised, but it was still a bit concerning, and so I wanted to get some advice.

It was quite jerky, both accelerating and decelerating. This was on suburban streets so I also felt we were often at a speed where it was switching gears a lot. We were never on a highway. I'm not at all certain about what mode I was in. I toggled what I thought was going from Drive to Sport and back with the gear shift, but I'm definitely not confident I was doing anything correctly. At one point I thought I had put it into the regular drive mode, but a few minutes later I noticed the S on the dashboard. I didn't fiddle with the mode knob at all. This was at CarMax, so the dealer was basically in the dark as much as I was.

So I would love any and all advice.

I do plan to try test driving one (or more) again. Is there anything in particular I should try doing? I'll probably also try to go to an actual VW dealer for at least one test drive.

Thanks in advance!

Catless downpipe installation

I finished up my downpipe install for my 22’ SE 4 motion. The driveshaft does have to be removed to allow the cat to come out as it’s a very tight space, you will mess up some heat shields in the process. Overall from start to finish it was about a 3 hour install, book time from VW is about 3.5-4 hours depending on what shop you go to. I did it myself with a lift and all the tools needed. Have some sound clips aswell for anyone curious

It happened

No clue what the slice is from, but my paint is bubbling 😞 and Volkswagen says it’s about a 3k job because there’s an adhesion issue.

New shoes today.

Wheels are MSW 17x8in +35ET
Tires are Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail 225/60r17

No modifications to the suspension. Fitment is excellent. No rubbing. Minimal additional road noise with the a/t tires. Just put them on today so I don’t know about mpg yet.
