FRESH START | Halstein's Hamlet - a long term, slow paced, modded server.

Hello Everyone, Our server will be opening in the next few days. We're looking for around 40 - 50 people to join for our launch day.

A little bit about this server Halstein's Hamlet is configured in such a way that encourages group exploration and an overall community playstyle. It is a LONG TERM server with a lifespan of about 6 - 8 months (potentially longer). Progression is locked behind an in game timer to ensure everyone stays at the same relative position regardless of skill level or time allotted.

Mods This is a modded server mostly made up of serverside configuration mods that help us make things possible for the player count. We really tried to make it feel as close to vanilla as possible while implementing high population resource management tools for our admins. As well as several MMO adjacent features so that playing in a group is a rewarding and fun experience. The mod list may appear large. Sitting at 40 mods a good 33 of those are strictly QOL mods that dont effect general playtime or vanilla feel. They just serve to enhance the multiplayer experience asa valheim was not built to be played by this many people at the same time.

Difficulty This is a MEDIUM difficulty server. We use CreatureLevelandLootControl to scale up the level and amount of mobs in the world. This is a No Map server. However, using a cartography table you can access the map.

Progression Locks This is a LONG TERM server. We intend on being up for several months and to do so we want our players to all be in the same general area at the same time. Bosses are locked behind an In-Game day count. Once a boss is killed the next biome and all it has to offer will open.

We intend on this server being fairly community first so solo play is somewhat discouraged as a primary playstyle. A majot goal of ours is to have cities in each biome. If you are interested in a LONG TERM, lightly modded, slow paced server then this might be for you.

Once we have enough members we will set a start date. The quicker we can fill up the player slots the faster we can start. So if you are interested send me a message and feel free to invite your friends.

Hey fellow Vikings,

For those of you running slow progression / immersion-focused worlds (especially no map, no portal, hardcore, or community-driven servers), how do you personally handle progression pacing in a way that still feels fair, engaging, and rewarding for both long-time players and newcomers?

I’m trying to avoid the common “rush the next biome ASAP” mindset and instead create a world that feels lived in — with roads, settlements, exploration, trade routes, expeditions, and long-term community building actually mattering.

A few things I’m curious about:
- How do you slow progression naturally without making it feel tedious?
- How do you keep veteran players engaged without outpacing newer players too hard?
- Do you gate bosses, gear, or biome access in any way?
- How do you encourage players to settle, build infrastructure, and cooperate instead of speedrunning progression?
- Any server rules, world events, or systems that helped your community stay immersive and involved long term?

Would love to hear how others balance challenge, immersion, fairness, and community progression in these kinds of worlds.
