Switching Schools

Hey! I’m an incoming freshman, I applied to one of the schools for the fall, but after realization, I kind of want to move to a different field of study. Is it possible to move to a different school at Vanderbilt before going in the fall? I know it’s easy to move schools hearing up from people AS a student, but are you able to move before figuring your schedule?

Chances of Acceptance for Fall 2027

I’m a junior at a mid-sized suburban high school with a 3.6 GPA. I want to major pre med, I haven’t received my AP scores yet, but I got a 34 on the ACT. My school offered 20 AP courses, and I took 3 before my senior year, taking 2 more this year. I’m also taking 6 dual enrollment classes senior year.

My extracurricular activities include:

- Tennis: 3 years
- Red Cross Blood donor ambassador over 250 hours: 2 years
- Dads Store: Top sales associate at a luxury perfume/cologne store for 5 years
- DECA: Top 10 in the state for 3 years
- Key Club: All 4 years
- Health screening: Couple done junior and senior year
- SNHS: 2 years
- Publix Bakery Clerk: 2 years
- Mun Leadership: Secretary for 4 years
- Volunteering: Regular helping out volunteering 1-3 a week for 6-8 years: Teacher to 5-year-olds at a religious education center for 1 year
I also have multiple industry certificates: CPR, OSHA10, word, powerpoint and nissan problem solving and i am getting my ccma over next year.
Awards include DECA top 10, top sales associate, BDA 50 hours in a month, and most JV wins. My parents make about $85,000 a year, and I’m applying EA because it’s my top choice.
how much would i have to pay if i got in? my sister goes to belmont and my parents pay for a little bit of her tuition so idk if that would affect it.

Tuition is ridiculous (2026-2027): $101,380

Total cost of attendance is now $101,380/year. How could they raise fees quietly like that without publicly announcing it?

wlw dating at vandy

How is the dating pool for wlw people? Yes cliche question I know, but can the CURRENT student body speak and provide their own experiences on this. and please don't be saying "join lgbt club/orgs" because it's just not my scene. do girls tend to be straight here bc it's south or is there still a big wlw group present. lmk thank you

premed help plsss

I’ve heard that Vanderbilt’s STEM classes are incredibly difficult, so I’m wondering if it would be smarter to major in something like Public Health just to protect my GPA for medical school applications. At the same time, I’m worried about my career options; if I ultimately decide not to go to medical school, I don't know what kind of job I could get with just a biology degree. I’m torn because I don’t really care for public health or any subject other than biology, so I don't know if switching is a smart move or a mistake. If anyone has recommendations for majors that offer decent job prospects after graduation without absolutely tanking my GPA, please let me know."

Probation upon admission

Hey everyone.

I have heard of other schools admitting students onto academic probation if their grades are poor but not bad enough to rescind. Is this also a thing that Vandy does? If so, what does that look like and do you think these grades (B-, C, C-, A-, A-, B+) would put me there (or would I get rescinded)? These are all honors level classes (my school doesn't have APs), and the only grade that has dropped more than a full letter from my winter term grades is a B -> C-

Would love your thoughts,

N.S.

Which School to Use as Main for Double Major

Hi,

If I am going to do Econ + HOD, is there a benefit to primary being Peabody vs. A&S in terms of fewer credits required for the core, or in terms of resources?

Vandy or UMD, maths major

Hi, I got accepted as a transfer student from UMD. I am a maths international student, but not really sure whether i gonna do grad school in maths after. Since I may go back to my home country for jobs, I feel like Vandy is more prestigious. However, I feel the maths course setting in Vandy isn't as broad as UMD. I also don't know the community and college life belike here. See some posts on the dorm, sorority and clubs but not sure what the life here belike. PLZ give me some advice, really hesitant and only have few days left to do the decision.

Help choosing a major

Hey guys, I will be attending Vandy in the fall as a freshman, and while I know I would still have some time to choose a full major, I would want something to actually go off, even if its just for now. I want to go on a pre-law track; however, I know for one thing, I am terrible at tests (ACT was not that good, 25), and I want to keep a high GPA. Now I have heard that HOD is relatively easy GPA-wise, but I also wanted to see if there was any way I could either double major in Poli Sci or in Law, History, and Society. I was wondering if anyone had some advice on classes and majors. I want to keep my GPA high, but I also want to challenege my self to be able to actually have the skills needed for not just the LSAT but for law school itself.

Can you have a fun social life at Vandy if you aren’t Greek?

I know that Greek life is big at Vandy, and it’s known as a very fun campus culture with a lot of school spirit. Is it possible to have an active social life at Vanderbilt without joining a sorority or fraternity? Are there campus events and student parties that aren’t Greek dominated? Are students who don’t go Greek in any way thought less of when it comes to the social scene?

Thanks a bunch to anyone who wants to chime in on these questions.

Run It Back or Is It Over?

Going into this admissions cycle I was feeling very confident from how much I was able to grow since high school. Although I had a perfect GPA and was ranked #3 in my class, I was rejected from pretty much everywhere except my local state university, so I took a chance and enrolled at cc. While maintaining a 4.0, I did things more focused on engineering that I never did before, like personal projects, research, clubs, etc and also grew way better social/ networking skills. Having friends from T25s that helped me with my application and essays, I believed I would get into at least a few of the universities I applied to. In the beginning I got accepted into TAMU with major, Vandy first wave, and waitlisted from Rice, so I thought it was a very good sign for the other universities as well, but as all the rest have released, I have been getting straight rejections. So far I only have 4 left and am trying to remain hopeful, but am thinking if I should decide with the options I have or try running it back once again.

[Results]

  • UMich: Rejected ❌
  • USC: N/A🫣
  • Vandy: Accepted✅
  • CMU: Rejected❌
  • MIT: Rejected❌
  • UT: N/A🫣
  • Harvard: Rejected❌
  • Yale: Rejected❌
  • GT: Rejected❌
  • Brown: Rejected❌
  • Harvey Mudd: Rejected❌
  • Stanford: Rejected❌
  • Cornell: N/A🫣
  • UPenn: Rejected❌
  • Rice: Waitlisted⏸️
  • Northwestern: N/A🫣
  • TAMU: Accepted✅

[Info]

  • First-year CC Transfer Applicant (Mechanical Engineering)
  • Asian Low-income and rural
  • High School GPA:
  • 4.0 College GPA: 4.0
  • ACT: 32
  • Tests: Took all APs offered in HS with 4s

[ECs]

  • HS: Multiple leadership positions and 5th at State Champ for Track
  • College: Research program, Formula SAE with nearby uni, created run club that partnered with Nike, OnCloud, and other local unis, many personal engineering projects, volunteering, paid tutoring job at cc, part-time job

[Essays & LORs]

  • LORs: Comp sci prof, English prof, and former AP teacher / personal mentor (Have great relationship with all)
  • Essays: Tying my background growing up on a rural farm and track to engineering and ECs. Reviewed my friends I have at Harvard, Yale, UCs, etc.

BTW does anyone know when the ones I am waiting for will be released?

[Edit]

Vanderbilt is a great school, and I am appreciative that I was accepted. The only thing is that Vandy's engineering ranking is low, and I have not seen that they have many clubs/opportunities compared to a school like TAMU, where I have a summer research position and have many connections already. (Trying to see if the overall prestige or stronger engineering program is better since those are my two choices as of rn.)

Vandy cs vs cornell info sci

Hi all!
I am so blessed that I got into both vandy and cornell for transfer :)

I got into vandy CS in engineering school and Cornell Info Sci (plan to do data science concentration) in CALS

Cornell is 10k cheaper but like cost is not that big of problem in choice making.

I plan on doing PM (product management) in the future, not like pure swe.

So I wasn’t sure which choice might be a wise choice. Since CS might seem more appealing to recruiters. And like a lot of ppl go from swe to pm so i was worried that i might start off from there??

for social stuff outside of js academics, I am lowkey worried about cornell’s depression and grade deflation stuff but also vandy might be heavy on greek so please let me know! It’s hard for me to choose 😭

vanderbilt cs or ut austin ds (transfer undergrad)

Just got accepted to UT as a Behavioral and Social Data Science major (in-state, waiting on aid) and a few weeks ago got into Vanderbilt for Computer Science on a full-ride.

i cannot choose, please give me your opinion !! If you are CS at vandy please just give me any insight!!

More context: I live in Austin, so I'm very familiar with UT/ATX, and my sibling goes there. I care a lot about my career, and also like many in tech, my main goals are securing internships and a full-time job right out of college.

EMBA at Vanderbilt Owen

Would you still do an EMBA in the age of AI?
Mind says “Go deeper in AI and Tech” as this is the time of AI. Heart says it’s a time to leverage business skills to use AI for business transformation.
And how much did you pay for an EMBA?

Pls help UT Austin vs. Vanderbilt for pre-med

I'm currently committed to UT Austin for Neuroscience (in-state) and I got off the Vandy waitlist for neuroscience (full pay). My parents are willing to pay for me but I'm wondering what y'all would do in my case. I'm also curious if anyone was/is in a similar situation as me. Vandy means a lot to me as I was constantly rejected and waitlisted this cycle. I greatly appreciate all opinions!
