Need some help/tips on how to apply Oracal 651 vinyl to my work table. Never done this before.

EDIT: Solved! I bought some Oracal 651 to apply over the top surface of my work table. It’s a huge 86” table and this is my first time working with vinyl. I’ve tried to look up any tutorials on youtube but only found one in which the guy got wrinkles during application, plus comments said he “didn’t do it correctly”? Reading more and more about it, i’ve read where people said that the backing does not come off easily (weeding) and it’s prone to bubbling up pretty easily…and it’s making me a little apprehensive to just jump in. Any and as much help as you could offer would be greatly appreciated!

Also, nothing you say will be redundant (even down to how to properly prep the surface of the table before application, and have even read where some people have recommended using a water/rubbing alcohol/dawn (or baby shampoo) mixture to apply it somehow helps🤷🏻‍♂️); remember, this is my very first time working with the stuff. Thanks!

Best Cutter To Upgrade To?

Hi all, I have been using a Cricut Explore 3 since they came out, starting off as a hobby but now selling a fair amount of decals via eBay. We can all agree that Cricuts are very restrictive and not that good for professional use so, what do people recommend upgrading to?

Are Siser machines the same as Cricut? Is a Silhouette the way to go? Is there a better 'no name' brand you'd recommend?

I use Adobe Illustrator for my design work then import the SVG. I do a mixture of sizes, including some tiny designs, but would also like to offer bigger than the 280mm I get from my machine currently.

Thanks!

Wanting vinyl cutter

Good morning. My daughter is wanting to get into sticker making for her and her friends. I’ve been looking at how this is done. I’ve learned I don’t want a Cricut machine as they seem too limited.

My options are silhouette or pay over the odds for a Juliet however they don’t seem to be available in the UK easily. I’ve seen a few videos and groups suggesting that the cameo isn’t very good. Some videos even suggest that the cameo Cant cut deep enough for the vinyl stickers.

I’m also aware that some of these videos are sponsored by the manufacturers and are probably biased. Could somebody reassure me that a cameo 3 or 4 will be suitable for cutting multiple materials similar to the Cricut machines.

Or am I wrong about the Cricut machine and actually they aren’t unreliable and they are fit for purpose.

Thank you

Unknown graphtec series

Hello all! I was wondering if you could possibly help me out, I’m using this graphtec at work and I’m having trouble figuring out what series it is. I’ve included photos of any numbers I’ve seen it on it, but I didn’t find anything to help me narrow down which one it is. If anyone can point me in the right direction so I can get this thing working properly again that would be great! Many thanks!!!

What is the best decal/sticker design program to use with Cricut?

I’ve had the Cricut Maker 3 for a couple of years now and have really been struggling with trying to create my own custom stickers and car decals. Design Space is not easy to work with. I’m wondering what you all use to create your own designs that plays well with Cricut?

Parametric SVG for 2D cutter using FreeCAD

I’ve been looking for a better way to design boxes and foldable paper/card shapes for a 2D cutter.

The main issue is not the outside cut line. That part is easy. The annoying bit is the fold lines. When you are making a box or any 3D shape from a flat sheet, you don’t want every line to be a full cut. Some lines need to be perforated so the material can bend cleanly without separating completely.

That is where the workflow became painful. I could design everything parametrically in FreeCAD, but after exporting the SVG I still had to open it in Inkscape and manually change some of the lines into dotted/perforated lines. Every time I changed the design, I had to redo that manual step.

I didn’t really want to learn a whole new piece of software just for this, so I made a small FreeCAD macro instead.

Now the sketch name controls the SVG output. For example, cut_outer becomes a solid cut line, while perf_24 or perfp_10_30 becomes a perforated fold line.

So the idea is simple: design the shape parametrically in FreeCAD, mark which lines are cuts and which are folds, then export an SVG that is ready for the cutter.

It turns the old FreeCAD → Inkscape workflow into something that can be done directly from FreeCAD. https://github.com/guillaume52/freecad-vinyl-svg-perforator

US cutter Pros/Cons

Hey all,

Looking at getting a new Vinyl cutter for my side business. Not looking to spend thousands on a graphtec machine or equivalent so I have been leaning towards the US cutters. Looking for pros and cons for the different machine lines as well as the cutting software that they offer. My primary design work will be done in either illustrator and eventually affinity. Any help is appreciated as I am actively working on purchasing.

Thanks

Printing 1000 Letter/A4 vinyl stickers a week.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum, I could not find a vinyl printing forum.

Requirements:

  • Printing about 1000 a week
  • Print black ink on white vinyl
  • Long lasting outdoors
  • About Letter/A4 size
  • Need to sick to plastic bins

What sort of printer should I look at and what are the running costs?

Help with motorcycle graphics?

Not sure if this is the right subreddit but maybe someone can help me cut some graphics or maybe someone can point me in the right direction. Long story short here's a picture of my bike as it currently sits and the second pic is the inspiration.

I need to figure out how to either cut the teal and purple tear/splash style graphics myself or find someone able to do it for me. Thanks in advance and let me know if you need more info

Best strategy for a two-color vinyl logo decal on a bicycle

Hi everyone!

I have a decal project in mind (would outsource the actual work) but wanted to ask this community for some advice.

I have a new bicycle with a very busy paint job. I would like to apply a rectangular vinyl decal with an intricate logo cut out. Rather than have the underlying paint show through the logo cut out, I’d like a white background. So I figure the best strategy is to first apply a pure white vinyl rectangle and then put the logo vinyl decal on top of the white vinyl. My obvious goal is not to damage the bicycle’s paint job.

Any advice would be appreciated!
