A 1940s inspired Profile Portrait [GX680 II GX180mm at f5.6 using Ilford FP4+ Colourised in Post]
My cousin Michael and I were inspired to experiment with a portrait photography style influenced by classic cinema and 1930s and 1940s Hollywood studio portraiture, with a strong dash of Gone with the Wind and its famed heroine, Scarlett O’Hara.
This photo of Megan Tremethick was shot on a GX680 II medium-format camera and then given a restrained, vintage-inspired colour treatment in post.
I’d really appreciate any critique on the lighting, composition, skin tones and colour grading, and on whether the image feels convincingly period-inspired. I’d also be interested to hear if there is anything else you would have done thematically.
The feedback I received last time was very helpful in adjusting the composition, particularly a shrewd observation about the differences between modern portrait photography and 1940s studio styles.
BTW, we develop the film ourselves as well, which is fun :)
