I’m building a UK horror film studio. I’d love to hear from others working in horror.

Hi everyone,

I’ve been developing a horror film studio based in the UK. We produce feature films, refurbish buildings that we can use for filming and production, and handle our own distribution.

The studio takes inspiration from the vertically integrated business models of the early 20th century. Aesthetically, our films are highly stylised and influenced by classic cinema, and we’ve been fortunate to build an audience that enjoys our work and supports our vision.

It’s still a huge challenge, of course, to make everything sustainable and continue growing as an independent film producer.

You can find out more about what we’re building here:

How about everyone else? Are you working in horror?

Feel free to share links to your own projects too.

I interviewed Jeff Barker about screenwriting, horror storytelling, and Curry Barker’s journey with *Obsession*

Hi everyone,

I hope this is okay to share here. Please feel free to remove if it’s not appropriate.

I recently had the chance to record a long-form interview with Jeff Barker, a screenwriter and script consultant, and also the father and mentor of Curry Barker, who directed the horror film Obsession.

The conversation is less of a promotional thing and more of a craft discussion. We talk about screenwriting, story structure, character, psychology, independent horror filmmaking, and what makes genre cinema work when it still has intelligence and emotional weight behind it.

I thought it might be of interest to people here who are into horror writing, filmmaking, or the creative process behind independent horror.

Here’s the interview:

No pressure at all, but I’d be genuinely interested to hear what people think, especially from other writers or filmmakers.

How many films are on Shudder UK?

Someone told me there was over 700 movies on Shudder UK but I couldn’t believe that! When I last subscribed it seemed way less?

I made a website for my retro British horror film studio inspired by classic Hammer and Amicus films

Megan Tremethick introduces our horror film studio website.

Here's a video of Megan Tremethick introducing the new website I made for the British Horror Studio (BHS). It’s a boutique film studio that produces and distributes its own films, doing so through a lens that imagines it all taking place somewhere in the early 20th century.

The BHS also includes the revived Amicus Productions, and all our films have a retro twist. I hope you enjoy exploring the website as well.

If you have any thoughts, do share them, and thanks for watching the video.

This is a photograph I took of Megan Tremethick, who cites Vivien Leigh as her great inspiration to become an actress.
