Loud screeching

Changed the drive belt a month ago. No screeches for a month, then recently there’s a really loud screeching sound on start up and everytime I turn the wheel.

My feeling is it’s the alternator causing issues. What are your thoughts?

Power steering fluid is all good and at the correct level. Belts are all new.

Double water pump gasket bad idea?

The water pump I ordered came with two gaskets does anyone have a counter argument to putting both of them on there? Seems to me like it would be double the leak protection.

I think my water pump is seized on the mount

I took all five bolts out with no issue I have a replacement ready to go, but even when I lightly tap it with a hammer, it is on their rock solid. Any advice?

I have a 1992 300D w124 Mercedes and its making a klinking noise

lately all of a sudden ive noticed that when i take the car out of park and put it into either drive or reverse when the shifter is in between the resting points it makes a soft klinking noise like a ball pin hammer hitting an anvil and when i listen to it from the outside it sounds like a chainlink ratteling almost. it only happens when i put the car into gear and i do not notice it when driving.

Selling my 420sel

Selling my 1987 420sel , I have it at my parents home in Los Angeles, USC area. After replacing the fuel distributor with a new rebuilt one the car would run like a charm. I then got the upholstery and paint redone right after, such a smooth ride like a cloud.

2025 my health problems got worse and I couldn’t continue driving the car so I’ve been letting it sit since then. The paint got a bit bland from the sun, got scratches here n there I think from the dirt it would collect from the car cover, and the car doesn’t turn on since it’s been sitting. It cranks like it’s just about to get there and a mechanic got it to turn on with some starter fluid, but I’ve just lost interest since having surgery’s done etc

Selling for $3,500 , bring your own tow. Los Angeles USC area

If interested in buying the car dm me or comment

2008 Mercedes E350 4-matic with 183000 mi

Trying to sell my car currently and of course this problem pops up once I do, the motor has a squeaking whine sound with its on, and it starts producing this burnt rubber smell

Suspect the belt is being rubbed on something and the tensioner is loose, could it be the problem or something else?

Rough start

I have a 85 300SD, 145 k miles, odometer is working. I bought it from someone that had a plan for it and never got around to it. For its age it's in reasonably good shape except for the driver's seat. The driver seat you could tell the person slid in and out. I have never owned a diesel prior to this one. Sometimes it's very complicated to get and keep started, I'm in the desert so it's not the cold. Once it is started it will be rough idle/die until it warms up a little bit and then it's fine. I can then drive with no issues. What would be a solution for this?

Edit. It's the OM617 engine.

Requesting Buying Advice!

Hey everyone! First timer here, so my apologies if I'm not formatting or tagging this right.

I'm here because I've gone on a long road trip recently in my newer Mercedes and it's given me a new perspective on what kind of cars I should own. To keep it short, I live in the midwest of Canada and there's hardly any good driving roads near where I live. But on a road trip to Seattle and back, I got to drive truly great driving roads and have come to the conclusion that I do not live in the right part of the world to own a sports car. So to scratch my itch of being a car enthusiast, I've become more open to buying an older, more vintage car that's cool without needing to be pushed to its limits on a track.

Enter the W126. I found a good listing for a 1982 300SD out of the US and was wondering about what kind of common faults or issues I should expect to happen to me if I bought the car. The particular car is in great shape, encyclopedic service history, and the all important OM617A under the hood. But because I'm only 25 and haven't owned a properly old car before, I just wanted some advice on what to look out for. There's no question in my mind on if the car will be a good fit for me as I think everything about it is cool as fuck, but I just don't want to be going in blind.

If you want more details, I can get them to you; thanks in advance!
