I love that werwulf uses historical clothing

I love that despite its horror feel werwulf uses historically accurate late 1300sish clothing. I also love that you can tell that the clothing is dyed despite the films shading

Werwulf Poster

Just a concept by me but it’s mainly based around my favorite shot in the trailer which is the one of him and his family and also on the overall aesthetic based on what we’ve seen.

Really hope they go into the family dynamic heavily in this film to really make the ending I’m presuming he’s going for hit really hard.

No Ai Used just raw photoshop tools and custom patterns + textures and stills from the trailer. Really hope the official is something incredible.

Werwulf & the loss of self

What kind of themes are you expecting from Werwulf? I’m hoping it leans into the horror of the loss of self, depersonalization, dehumanization, the horror of rage and the loss of control, the metaphor of a curse being inflicted by others but kept alive by ourselves. Tragedy, shock, unchecked despair, existential dread, etc.

The loss of self is especially interesting for this movie however as I find the most horrific part of a werewolf story being from the perspective of the cursed man.

He loses any hint of possible humanity, completely unrecognizable, has no control over the monster he becomes, yet must live with the guilt of his atrocities and the knowing that he is this monster, and that his continued existence is at the cost of more bloodshed.

He’s not just mentally ill though his mind does distort; his whole body deforms, breaks, sheds and bleeds until there is no “him” left but something else entirely. His loved ones, his wife, could only look at him fearfully, and with mourning and heartbreak. He could only protect them by leaving, or dying.

I’ll say the trailer really amplified my excitement for this film, it looks truly scary and that wasn’t something I thought I’d see with a werewolf film ever.

Curious if I missed any themes relevant to the Werewolf as a story and work of fiction. If I did please let me know.

Werwulf by Robert Eggers revenge against Emilia Pérez

He will never forget that day two years ago when the Academy gave more nominations to *Emilia Pérez* than to Robert Eggers’ *Nosferatu*; it is unfair—a total insult to cinema.

What scenes creep you out in the Werwulf trailer?

Photo #1: That is a creepy ritual💀. I'm seeing people happily dance with horned headresses and pitchforks.

Photo #2. This is straight out of "The VVitch", that is the scariest thing I've seen in this whole trailer, why she floating like that😭

Photo #3: Leave bro alone, that kid looked so distraught from the get go and here are these people putting a curse on him.

Photo #4: I wonder if this is a man accused of lycanthropy and was hanged for it. The corpse looks so real (dammit Robert Eggers you sure know how to make things look so real)

Photo #5: Historically hellmouths were a genuine fear among the Christian folk in the 13th century. The paintings are indeed haunting but I'm so happy it's portrayed here.

Photo #6: If y'all remember this is one quick scene where this little girl (who I think is the protagonist's daughter) is witnessing a creature in front of her kill something or someone and blood splatters on her face. Call me crazy but I swear I can see the shape of the thing (who could be the werewolf itself) and I had to map out the shadow and what I think I see is ears, a mane, and maybe a snout. If this is the werewolf, holy God that's scary because do you see how massive the shadow is?!

Photo #7: I think that's the she-wolf's hands. Those claws man.

Photo #8: A beautiful haunting scene. In the middle of the transformation. Those eyes really sell it. I can't tell if he has sharp teeth on his lower jaw or that's just a mix of blood and foamy spit giving that illusion.

Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Momento random this Week:

It feels strange that, with June already coming to an end, trailers for *Angry Birds 3* and Robert Eggers’ *WerWulf* have been released—and the crazy thing is that both films are coming out at Christmas.🐺☠️🎄

Werewolf Design

I'm new to Robert Eggers' work but I am a big werewolf fan so I'm interested in what the design might be like. What do you guys think he'll lean more on. I'm hoping it doesn't just look like Aaron Taylor-Johnson. I’m worried it might just be a guy.

Regarding the look of the werewolf

Do you think we’ll get something akin to the lycans from The Order: 1886?

Werwulf

Would like to give some folklore background and insight for Werwulf if anybody is interested.

In the UK specifically at the time there was a HUGE panic over wolves. If you know anything about British folklore and history you know that this actually led them to “hunt all of the wolves out of England.” Yes of course this had much to do with protecting livestock, but it also was based in a lot of spirituality- as everything was.

In the Werwulf trailer we see a flash of some art on a wall that depicts a wolf like creature throwing humans into the mouth of a beast. People at the time viewed wolves/werewolves as satan incarnate. Wolves and the devil were deeply intertwined and these illustrations they would paint on church walls were really quite scary to the people back then. You have to imagine they had literally nothing and everything was driven by the church. It was a very gruesome, dark and gritty time to be alive.

The 12-14th centuries (I think Werwulf is in the 13th) was a time of literal hysteria with werewolves. A witch hunt was forming all across Europe for them, which in real life is known as the Werewolf Witch Trials that happened in the 15th century so they were already on the cusp of this during the time of Werwulf.

Robert knows his stuff and there is nobody I would trust more with this kind of story. There is a gigantic pagan and occult undertone in this film which we can already see by the fire festival, use of witchcraft, blood curses, etc. I am sooooooo thrilled and encourage everyone to read about this folklore and history as it will probably help you get into the mindset and lore of the film.

That trailer

I just saw the trailer for Werwulf. Oh. My. GOD. It looks AMAZING. More “The VVitch” vibes than anything since that movie came out. I am so excited for this.

Werewolf transformation without CGI.

How do we think Eggers will give us a cruel transformation using practical effects ? Is there any examples you can think of from other movies (doesn't have to be a werewolf) that can give a good example of the possibility of methods ?
