Drive belt came off

On the way back from fireworks tonight I went to take a turn and had no power steering and my battery light came on. I shut the car off because I didn’t want to risk damage be it seem like the belt is…. Well…. Gone.

Am I going to risk anything by driving it home besides a dead battery and no power steering? The water pump isn’t connected to the drive belts is it? Just AC, PS, Alternator, and the crank?

HELP! WRX AC NOISES

My 2019 WRX recently started making a loud growling/rattling noise, but only when the A/C is on.
As soon as I turn the A/C off, the noise disappears.

- A/C still blows ice cold.
- Noise happens during idle but is louder when revving and sometimes rattles.
- Above ~2.5k RPM sound mostly goes away.
-Car feels like it has a little more drag and jerking in low RPMS with the A/C on.

Does this sound like a failing A/C compressor, compressor clutch, belt tensioner, or something else? Should this be an urgent fix if it’s still cold or can I wait it out until it completely fails then fix?

Help with gas smell

2020 Sti. Only mods are IAG AOS and catback Borla dual exhuast. No leaks in engine bay, gas cap present and was secured, no visible leaks underneath vehicle. Gas gauge is one-two ish tick below full.

Car was idling in parking lot for 30 mins AC on Low full blast for passengers. Inside cabin started smelling like fuel. Strong enough for windows to be rolled down.

Drove around and fuel smell dissipated even with it still on full blast. Next stop fuel could be smelled when exiting car on driver side. No fuel smells came back for the next few hours. Parked at home, when walking around the car a very strong gas smell can be noticed specifically near the driver side exhaust.

Need help narrowing down what might be the issue. Looking for a better idea that could be fixed before having to go to the dealership.

Don't want to risk it attempting to travel during the 4th weekend if its worse than it seems

From an F82 M4 back into an STi?

Hello all, I have owned 2 STi hatches in the past & am currently the owner of a F82 BMW M4.
Recently I’ve been thinking of getting back behind the wheel of a 18’ STi with a few goodies on it.

Has anyone ever made this jump “backwards” before? I can’t help feeling this would be a mistake in terms of my auto enjoyment but a large help financially.

Thanks for reading, looking forward to discussing :)

ATI Super Damper Removal/Install (2016 STI)

I’m trying to figure out what the procedure is to remove my ATI super crank damper. I have the company23 damper wrench for aftermarket dampers but it’s not exactly clear to me what the procedure is to get the wrench installed onto the damper.

Do I remove the 3 bolts that are not countersinked to the damper face to thread the company23 wrench onto the damper? See them circled in red on the image. If so, what type of socket and size do I need? Thanks.

What could be causing this gap?

Hello all, I recently purchased an 05 STi shell to swap some parts into, and I discovered this issue that I had not initially noticed. This fender gap when the hood closes is pretty serious, and I cant for the life of me figure out whats causing it. The bump stops arent even touching the frame, I replaced the hood with a known good one, I tried adjusting the latches, I tried raising the coilover on that side, and I checked SEVEN times to make sure that nothing was hitting the hood, but no luck. Im starting to suspect frame damage, but from what I can see, theres no wrinkles or cracks at all in the metal. Im seriously lost on what to do, any help would be greatly appreciated.

BRZ (1st or 2nd Gen) or VA WRX STI? Coming from a MK7 GTI — need opinions

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to decide between a BRZ (either 1st or 2nd gen) and a VA WRX STI.

I’m coming from a manual MK7 GTI and looking for a replacement. I’ve really enjoyed the GTI, but I want something more raw and engaging.

After driving a BRZ, I honestly loved it so much that I don’t even mind the drop in horsepower if it means I get to own one. It felt super connected, light, and just way more engaging than what I’m used to.

I work at a Subaru dealership, so I’m around both cars a lot, and this is how I’m looking at them:

BRZ (1st or 2nd Gen)

Just feels really connected and fun in a simple, pure way

Light, low, and makes even normal driving enjoyable

Cheaper and easier to live with long-term

I’ve also heard they do fine in snow with proper winter tires, and I don’t mind driving something like that in Ohio winters

VA WRX STI

Way more aggressive and exciting overall

Love the sound, power, and presence

AWD is obviously great for Ohio winters and bad weather

But I know it’s more expensive to maintain and modify

If it helps context-wise, I’m single, have no kids, and still very young, so I’m mainly focused on driving experience and enjoyment over practicality.

For people who’ve owned or driven both:

Which one kept you happier long-term?

Which felt better coming from a GTI?

Was the STI worth the extra cost in real life?

If you had to choose again, which would you pick?

Thanks for any insight.

EDIT: Im not sure if this helps but, btw I dont necessarily need another 4 door car. I rarly use that hatchback practicality of my gti anyway.

Failing O2 sensor on 2018 STI

Long story short, I picked up another car for commuting back in January which meant my sti was basically just sitting for quite some time with some driving in between. Im trying to get the car registered but I had to take it to get smogged where I was told the O2 sensor is showing as failed. I plugged in my innova obd tool and when the car is on it shows O2 as green but when the shop checks it on theirs it shows as red.

I was told to just drive it around for a while but I'm probably at over 250+ miles since getting it initially smogged and it still failed today and unfortunately now the car is outside of the registration window without fees. The car is completely stock internally. Has this happened to anyone else?
