Customer service providing strange reason for cancelling online order

2 days ago I purchased a TV stand from Walmart online. I’ve had a Walmart account for years but have never purchased online before. Well today, I get the notification it’s cancelled due to “pricing error”, and now it’s not available on the website.

I call customer service and after getting through the AI bot, the service agent tells me it was cancelled because it was my very first online order, and they cancel those for security reasons. So I asked, every single person with a Walmart account gets their first order cancelled and has to deal with customer service then? And he affirmed that was correct. He also said the seller did not have it in stock (even though it probably sold out after I bought it)

I mean, on what planet does that make sense? All it does is make me not want to order from Walmart again.

Small shoutout to that guy though I guess for providing a $25 off coupon.

Can anyone verify if this is true? Or just a made up reason they gave me

Split Deliveries Question

This question is actually for people who deliver for Walmart, but I was told to post in this customer forum.

Sometimes when I ordered groceries delivered, there are one or two items that come separately from the main delivery. Let say I tipped $10 for the total order, and the bulk of the ordered is delivered the next morning. I assume that driver gets the tip. What about the poor guy who delivers a single bottle of shampoo (that was part of the larger order) later that night? Does he get any of that tip? Does anyone know? Thanks!

Walmart Pickup and Delivery asked me to cancel my order because it’s contaminated and the driver refused it

I recently ordered a box of baby food from Walmart and had it shipped to my house. Two of the jars broke during shipping and made a mess. I chatted with customer service and got a replacement shipped out. It was supposed to be delivered today.

I just got a call from Walmart Pickup and Delivery. The woman on the other end told me that dish detergent had spilled all over my package and the driver refused to deliver it because it’s contaminated, so I need to go online and cancel the order. I was confused, but she claimed that she couldn’t cancel it, so I hung up and looked in the app. There is no option to cancel, presumably because this order is itself a replacement for a previous order.

I called back, and she told me I’ll have to come to the store and get it myself. I can’t be there until Thursday at the earliest, but she said she’ll set it aside. But I’ve got a house full of sick kids that I’m not taking inside a store, and she wasn’t even sure if they’d be able to bring my package out to my car. She told me to look for an option to change the delivery to a pickup, which I don’t have.

Does this sound fishy to anyone else? Like, the store has no way to tell corporate that a package is undeliverable?

Update: First of all, this is a shipping order, not a delivery order from the store. The baby food was packaged inside a box with my address on it and sent to the store, where a local delivery driver makes the last leg. That’s why they can’t just replace it with more of the shelf.

After I talked with the person on the phone and said I couldn’t cancel the order, she told me she’d set it aside so I could pick it up later in the week. I figured that was the best I was going to get. Later that day, I got an email indicating that the store had managed to change my delivery order to a pickup order. It said, “Your pickup order is ready,” and gave me four days to come get it. Cool, I’ll be there Friday to collect and open my soap-covered package.

Except I just got an email saying that I picked it up??! “How was your pickup experience?” Uh, I haven’t left my house. I’m hoping maybe they got a driver to accept it and that’s the only way for them to mark it sent out? But this is a nightmare. And I’m worried that marking this order as not picked up will flag my account somehow, as it’s a replacement for an order that was damaged. I know people can get their account suspended for abusing the return system.

Edit: It was on my front porch. 😂 I guess they toweled it off enough for a driver to accept it. You can tell something was spilled on the box, but it’s all dry now. The contents are fine.

Walmart+ Price differences?

Wondering if anyone else has had this issue. A friend of mine asked me to check if I got any better price on an item because of having Walmart+, but when i checked, the price they give me is $1.33 more!? Anyone else encountered this? Its not like we are in different areas, we live withing a 5 min drive of eachother so I'm not sure why there would be this difference? They're the same item listing by the same seller, I got the link directly from said friend. Just seems odd, idk.
