Highway is closed

Was just on the 5pm shuttle from the city to Whistler and we got stuck in traffic. There was a fatality involved so we had to turn back.

Highway most likely won’t open til midnight as we were told.

Low cost activities for kids?

I have a 7 and 9 year old. We plan to do the bike park one day (biking down the hill on greens, like ez does it). We did train wreck trail last month. Today we did the meadows pool (park and spray park are closed!). Visited the library, got ice cream… we have 6 days here and most of the activities I see (zip lining , horseback riding, riding the gondola) will cost us $200-$300 each day. So…. Looking for activities that are Lower cost for the next five days :-) vallea lumina starts at 10 pm but bed is 9 at the latest or we have melt downs. The summer kids activities are $14 a ticket for 20 minutes. With 2 kids that’s $90 and hour for bouncy castles 😂😩

Tomorrow is pure bread for breakfast with the park, the library, lunch at the hotel, then riding bikes to lost lake and hanging there.

Any other lower cost activities to keep them occupied this week that I might have looked over?

Bears?

Seen more bear activity in the village in the past couple days than I have in the 3 years we've been coming here. Not sure if just luck, or they're much closer this year. Anyone notice similar?

Also spotted one this afternoon by the Lagoons off Northlands.

Lost wedding ring

Hello! I lost my wedding ring yesterday somewhere in the whistler village. I’ve already filed a report and posted on Facebook but I thought I’d reach out here as well! Please let me know if you see it. Thank you!

Specialty coffee?

I’m looking for something that isn’t usually captured by the usual “10 best coffee shops in Whistler” lists: specialty coffee. I’m looking for fruity and funky notes. So many places in Whistler seem to have medium-dark roasts that, while ideal for flat whites, might not be as stand-out on their own. I remember liking Ecologyst’s coffee, but I see they’re permanently closed now. Where should I be looking?

Whistler - what to do?

Hi! We are a few guys heading to whistler. We are going for the crashed train to have a look.

Is there any more trails or sites that we should pay a visit?

Any good places to eat or by other means support the locals? - maybe something we should avoid?

Also, we won’t stay for long, need to continue the roadtrip.

Mtb clothing

Hey guys,

Going to whistler next week and I'm seeing it's like 15 degrees over there. What are you wearing when you're riding? Not too sure if I should bring hoodies and / or jackets for the mountain.

Thx!

Kees and Claire hut hike in?

I’ve got reservations later this month for the KAC hut, but I see the Musical Bumps hiking routes are closed on the WB site?? Can someone shed some insider info on this…?

Where to watch Canada R16 in Whistler?

Visiting Whistler this weekend and looking for any recommendations of places to watch the Canada game - indoor/outdoor, whatever. I will have small kids though, but since it’s an early game I think even pubs and such would be fine. Thank you!

World Cup

Does anyone know why the District of Squamish has not made any effort to show any Canada World Cup games on the downtown park? Also no Canada Day festivities? Where is the patriotism? Sure they did a woke festival with yoga but FFS do something for us Canadians No firework, parade, or bbq. Shame on them.

Dfx

My kid is joining DFX on Sunday in the Mini program. He’s four years old and I’m wondering if I can get recommendations on Bike gear. Looking for helmet pads and gloves.
Parents, what are your favorites? What should I avoid? Please let me know if there’s anything I should look out for and any particular store you recommend to purchase all these things from thanks

Just saw 3 black fully tinted escalades surrounded by police security on the way to squamish whistler, why?

I was just driving back from whistler and saw like 20 police officers on motercycles and in police cars in front of and behind 3 fully tinted escalades and was wondering if anyone knew who it was. I thought it might be carney but i'm just super curious!

Planning Whis bachelor party for March

As the title says, I'm planning my friend's bachelor party in Whistler this March and could use some advice.

We're expecting around 15 to 20 guys, so I know it's a big group. I'd love any recommendations on where to stay, booking strategies, restaurants, nightlife, activities, or anything else that made your trip easier.

Has anyone planned a Whistler bachelor party on a reasonable budget? We're happy to spend enough to make it a great weekend, but we're definitely not looking to go overboard.

Any tips, recommendations, or lessons learned would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!

Alpine Greens - no bike storage?

We’ve stayed at the aspens before and they had a cage in the parking lot. From the welcome email for our unit it sounds like this is not the case for alpine greens! Is there somewhere nearby that offer bike storage??? We have a $12k mtb so a ring rack isn’t going to cut it.

is Barn Nork really good or just really good for Whistler?

I live in Vancouver and I'll be passing through soon. I've seen many good reviews and recommendations for Barn Nork, but it seems quite expensive, like almost double the normal prices for great thai food in the city, which is plentiful.

It's not a huge deal, I'm happy to spend money on great food in general. But I guess I'm just getting a bit of sticker shock. So I'm wondering: is Barn Nork really that good? Or is it just that good against the competition in Whistler / the Sea to Sky corridor, which I understand is quite lacking. Would I be better off packing a lunch instead and waiting til I'm back in the city to get better value on great thai food? Or is it really worth a visit if I'm in the area, regardless of where I'm coming from?

All respect to Barn Nork, thai cuisine, and the Whistler area. I don't mean to be picky, just want some more information on how to maximize value I suppose.

Elderly friendly trails through dense forest

I live in Squamish and my parents are visiting from the states. Both are in their 60s and have OK mobility (can walk a couple of kilometers without any issue)

This would be their first time visiting the Sea to Sky area, and I’d really like them to see the natural beauty we are so fortunate to live in! Already done with all the touristy stuff like Squamish canyon, the Gondola, Whistler, etc

I’m looking for a trail walk through some type if a dense forest, easily accessible by car but with untouched raw beauty. I have been to plenty of trails (and all of them are beautiful!) - but am looking for something that’s truly breathtaking. A trail that I’m and of itself is so beautiful that a walk becomes truly memorable.

Would greatly appreciate any suggestions in S2S area! Willing to drive a couple of hours if needed. Thank you for your time
