Tree Removal Lower Westchester

I have fifteen Thuja Green Giant evergreens, 6-8 feet tall that I need removed from my property. Im looking for someone interested in removing them and keeping the trees or in the alternate, cutting them down and chilling them. If we remove and chip them price s an issue, so low cost recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.

List ONE specific thing White Plains should prioritize for improvement.

As a sister thread to our previous thread titled "List one thing you LOVE about White Plains", let's hear ONE thing you believe White Plains needs to improve on. We just ask that you keep things constructive (snarky, passive aggressive, overly negative, hyper-political, discriminatory, or instigative comments will be removed as they are counter-productive).

Please keep it to ONE thing (specifying HOW the city or residents can work to improve this thing you mention will also be helpful!).

Train etiquette

Isn’t this considered a reproachable behavior? Why so many people feel entitled to put their dirty feet over the seats like this? Would the conductor intervene if they see it?

Is housing affordability affecting you or someone you know in Westchester?

Hi everyone! My name is Halla, and I’m volunteering with Open New York. We’re talking with residents across Westchester about one of the biggest challenges facing our communities: housing affordability.

Whether you’re renting, trying to buy your first home, worried about your children being able to stay in Westchester, or simply concerned about the future of your community, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re collecting signatures from people who support practical housing solutions, such as building more homes near transit, allowing accessory dwelling units (ADUs), and supporting thoughtful local development that helps keep Westchester affordable and thriving.

Signing the petition is just the first step. If you sign, one of our organizers may reach out to share opportunities to get involved in your community. That could include local events, public hearings, city and town projects, and other ways to make your voice heard on housing issues that directly affect where you live.

If this is something you care about, I’d really appreciate your support by signing our petition here:

Petition

I’d also love to hear your perspective. What’s the biggest housing challenge you’ve noticed in your town or neighborhood?

Legit paid focus group in Yonkers, Aug 15–16 — $190, ~2 hrs, for Sorento / Santa Fe / Outback / Passport / Cherokee owners

Advanced Focus is a market research company based in Tarrytown. We host focus groups — the kind where a moderator sits down with groups of people and asks what they actually think about products and services. . We're recruiting for sessions in Yonkers on Saturday 8/15 and Sunday 8/16 and I'm posting here because we need a specific group of people.

Who we need: owners of a Kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa Fe, Subaru Outback, Honda Passport, or Jeep Cherokee.

The details:

  • In-person at a Yonkers facility, roughly 2 hours and 15 minutes
  • $190 for people who qualify, are selected, attend, and complete the session. To be clear, that's not a payment for responding to this post or filling out the screener — it goes to people who actually sit in the room and finish
  • Proof of vehicle ownership is required. During screening we'll ask for something like a photo of your registration or insurance card showing the vehicle. You can black out anything you don't want to share as long as the year/make/model and your name are legible
  • You'll be talking about your opinions and experiences. I'm intentionally not describing the topic in detail here because pre-exposing people to the subject matter compromises the data

What this is not: we are not buying, selling, appraising, repairing, or servicing anyone's vehicle. There's no sales pitch, no timeshare, no follow-up sales calls, no MLM. Nobody is trying to sell you an extended warranty. We are also not affiliated with or endorsed by any of the manufacturers listed — we're an independent research firm and the sponsor's identity isn't disclosed during recruiting, which is standard practice in this industry.

On credibility: Advanced Focus has been running qualitative research for over 20 years. You can look us up at advancedfocus.com, and I'm happy to answer questions in the comments or verify with the mods if that's the community's preference. Sessions are recorded for the client's analysis — that's normal for focus groups, you'll sign a consent form when you arrive, and the recordings aren't used for marketing or made public.

Reality check on odds: we have a limited number of seats and screening is competitive. Filling out the screener doesn't mean you're in. If you're not selected for this one, we can keep you in our database for future local studies if you'd like.

If you're interested, the screener takes about three minutes: https://ow.advancedfocus.com/opps/26125

--Please note that registration is required to complete the screening questions.

What can I do ?

I really need some advice/help because I honestly don’t know what else to do.
I’ve been unemployed since the beginning of July. Since then, I’ve sent out 500+ applications and gone on 15+ interviews, and I still haven’t been able to get a job.
I’m not someone who doesn’t want to work. I’m actually extremely hardworking. When I say first one in, last one out, I mean it. I’m willing to work 10–12+ hour days if that’s what I need to do. I have a 1yr old, but being a mom does not stop me from working or wanting to work.
I would love a normal 9–5 Monday-Friday job, but I also have to be realistic. I can’t just go work at McDonald’s for $15–17 an hour because that isn’t going to fix my situation. I need something starting around $24–$25+ an hour where I can actually support myself and my child.
For some background, I have experience in healthcare scheduling, radiology/mammogram scheduling, customer service, management, lead server / assistant manger, and working with people. I’m also bilingual and have my cosmetology license ( I haven’t did hair in over 5 years lost the passion). If anyone can look at that experience and tell me what type of jobs I should actually be applying for, I would really appreciate it because at this point I feel like I’m applying to everything and getting nowhere.
But honestly, my biggest problem right now is my living situation.
My rent is $2,000 a month, and I still haven’t been able to pay it for this month I’m 800 short . I simply cannot afford it right now. I’ve gone to DSS and was told that the only way they can put me into a shelter is if I receive an eviction notice.
And I understand that they have rules, but I just keep thinking… how am I supposed to do that to my landlord? How can I purposely let things get that bad and put my problems onto someone else? I don’t want to get evicted. I don’t want to lose my home. I just need help before it gets to that point.
I’ve been researching affordable housing, low income housing, rent assistance, housing programs, and anything else I can find for hours and hours. I have been applying to things for years honestly, since I was pregnant. Every time I think I find something, I end up at another dead end.
I’m also a single mother. My child’s father is incarcerated and possibly facing deportation, so realistically, I don’t have much support or anyone to fall back on. It’s basically just me trying to figure everything out.
So I’m asking specifically to anyone in Yonkers/ White plains or anywhere in Westchester County:
Does anyone know of a caseworker, social worker, organization, church, program, or ANY resource that actually helps single mothers in situations like mine?
Especially someone who can help me with:
Low-income or affordable housing
Rent assistance
Rent-stabilized housing
Housing for single mothers
Childcare assistance
Emergency assistance before an eviction happens
Navigating housing programs that I may not know about
Or even helping me figure out what programs I actually qualify for
And if you know of jobs around $24–$25+ an hour that I might qualify for based on my experience, PLEASE tell me about those too.
I’m not looking for a handout. I want to work. I want to pay my bills. I want to take care of my baby and keep a roof over our heads. I’m willing to work extremely hard. I just need someone to point me in the right direction.
I promise you, I have spent countless hours researching this stuff. I’m not posting this because I haven’t tried. I’m posting because I’ve tried and I keep hitting dead ends.
Any mamas who have been through something similar, especially in White plains /Westchester, or anyone who knows of a program, caseworker, housing resource, or job that could help please let me know.
Even if you think it’s something obvious, please tell me. At this point, I’m willing to try anything.

Odd situation - Which building do you recommend?

My spouse and I are looking for a studio and we are in a somewhat weird (though lucky to afford it) position. We will be spending most of this upcoming year abroad, but we need to keep our domicile here for immigration purposes. Unfortunately we don't have family or friends to rely on (a.k.a, nobody to set their address as our mailing and physical address). We have decided to rent a studio that would mostly be empty, but we would use it in the times when we come back (2-3 times a year for about a month or so). Which buildings would you recommend? The only things we are adamant about are safe area, no pests, and not super old. No amenities needed.
