New Method For Tracking Steam Playtime on PC Launcher Accounts

Previously, the only way for this to work would be to copy your PC launcher files over to the Steam versions folder, but I’ve found a different workaround.

This method makes it so you no longer have to copy and paste your files again every time Wizard101 updates. The only “caveat” is that you have to keep a second installation of the game on your PC, so free up some storage if you’re low.

How to set up:

1. Install Wizard101 on Steam. You don’t need to launch it or do anything after, just install.

2. Find the location of your normal (non-steam) Wizard101 installation.

For example, mine is at:

E:\Program Files\KingsIsle Entertainment\Wizard101

3. In that folder, right click Wizard101.exe and create a shortcut. Rename this shortcut to only the word "shortcut"

4. Download the two files I made for this, LaunchOG.bat and HideConsole.ps1 and put them into your Wizard101 folder alongside the shortcut you just made.

5. Right click LaunchOG.bat and click edit. It will open notepad, and you now need to replace the 2 instances of my Wizard101 folder address with yours.

So, when you see E:\Program Files\KingsIsle Entertainment\Wizard101\HideConsole.ps1
and E:\Program Files\KingsIsle Entertainment\Wizard101\shortcut.lnk

You need to correct them to be your file paths.

6. Go to Steam and on the left sidebar in your library, find Wizard101 and right click it. Open properties and you’ll see “launch options” under the general tab. Paste this line into that box:

"E:\Program Files\KingsIsle Entertainment\Wizard101\LaunchOG.bat" %command%

Except, again correct the file path to match the one on your computer.

7. Click play on Wizard101 on Steam, a small terminal screen should flash and disappear and the launcher will open like normal. Your hours will now be tracked on Steam!

How it works:

The “LaunchOG.bat” points to the shortcut, opening the launcher. It stays active in the background checking if Wizard101 is still running, and when it notices the game closes, it stops. When you press play on Steam, it ignores the steam installation of the game and launches the .bat file instead. The .bat file also runs the HideConsole.ps1 file, which essentially just hides LaunchOG.bat’s terminal window because I found it annoying to keep open in the background.

It is all very bare-bones simple code, not a lot going on. Pretty much a glorified shortcut, except now you get the perks of tracking playtime. You will still have to download new updates to the Steam version as they come out (so that it lets you press the play button), but otherwise you don’t need to do anything else.

Also, if you usually use a desktop icon to launch your game, Steam lets you do this by right clicking the game in your library and going to manage>add desktop shortcut. Works flawlessly with this method.

Chimera Tier 2

Am I reading the text on this chimera tier 2?

I read this as "Deal 730 balance damage and, if your opponent has any hanging effects, apply a 390 (6 round) balance damage over time for each one (up to 4 times)."

It's pretty niche, but the potential to hard swing a battle with this doing up to 2,290 is bonkers. Anyways, If I'm incorrect please let me know. I wanna confirm that is its function before spending the spellements I just farmed.

This game is overwhelming.

Been playing on and off since the game came out. My last hiatus was three years. I'm looking up guides on how to play again, but holy crap. There is so much to this game. I feel like I should start a new character because everything looks and feels different now. I'm sure there are new features that have been added too that I'm not aware of. I don't remember anything from the quests I was doing since I last played.

But I'm dreading on making a new wizard because it took me forever to get to level 48. I would do all of the side quests along side the main quest because I thought I would get more experience doing that. I've also played the beginning so often that I can remember most of the changes they've made. I also have some crowned gear on my current death wizard that I wouldn't want to give up using and waiting again, to use it.

I barely even understand how the pets work. I feel like it takes way too long to level them up. Gardening and fishing is a feature I barely used when I last played. So, I'm not sure how critical it even is for this game.

What the heck is raids? What is Beastmoon?

Anyone else feel overwhelmed, or can offer some advice on easing back into the game?

My Pain is Your Potential Gain

A little while back I posted about the pet I struggled to make (right). This is meant to have the maycast mass tower shield jewel socketed. Well, I wasn't happy with only this and wanted something with more trap potential, so lo and behold "Kitten 2.0" (left).

This cat WAS. A. PAIN. I've never had so many fails at epic in my entire wiz101 career. I probably burned another 20+ hatches and unknown amount of gold and crowns. Thankfully, it's done and I'll eventually socket the defy + maycast brace jewel.

However, I am once again unsatisfied with the pet. To be a true support pet, I need a pet with item cards, so now begins the second leg of my journey to move these both over to balance pupbellies. Yes, I am aware how awful that sounds, but it must be done!

Anyway, thank you all for commiserating in my pain and suffering of these pets. If anyone wants a lend, let me know!

This has to be the most underrated PVE spell

Nothing better than getting rid of an enemy weakness effect or dispel and simultaneously protecting yourself (especially with enemies that use school specific debuffs now). Also nice for lifes and enemies that spam infections.

Is this normal for high-level wizards?

I’ve been playing the game for about two seasons now. Stuck between Arc 2 and Arc 3. I say “stuck” but mainly progress has been slow on my own.

I ended up meeting a high level wizard who added me as a friend. Routinely we’ll go through main quests and side dungeons and they’re so high leveled that they do the damage while I play support. As far as results go, I think I’ve gotten further with their help than I would have without it. We’ve done it this way from Celestia to Azteca, and Khrsalis is next.

We chat while playing all the time. You’d think that this is an ideal gaming relationship but I’m just a little weirded out. They tell me frequently that I’m their favorite person to play with, that they appreciate the help I offer in fights, that the only reason they’re still playing the game is because they want to help us as much as possible, etc.

I’m not convinced. With the amount of damage they can do, I don’t see how they get anything out of playing the game with me. They’ll even invite me to swing sometimes and act impressed at the damage I can do, and it’s hard not to find this condescending.

We’ll schedule days to play together only to have them stay separate to tackle side dungeons and build up new wizards that also end up higher leveled than me because that’s how good they are at the game. Plus, they belong to a guild AND I know they have a number of different “pupils” that they’ve also helped get through the game. We’ve played together before. In other words, I feel like I’m getting mixed messages about what this person enjoys about playing with me.

So to all you high level wizards I ask, is this normal? Do you end up taking on rookies routinely, and does interacting with them or getting help from them become your favorite thing to do in the game?
