General Help Playing Wu

So I’ve been playing Wukong like nonstop for the last few days, absolutely loving the champ. While my win rate has been high I feel like I am definitely not playing him even close to his peak. Should I be top damage? I feel like I have improved working in as many Qs as possible in team fights but dont really ever have high damaged output overall and will be like 4th/5th damage every game. When we win I’ll get praise because I seem to engage well and use the knockup to win fights but the few games I’ve lost with similar numbers I’m absolutely torched by team. I like the bruiser build more than the lethality one, even with bruiser I feel like I still die pretty fast if they have multiple range/ap champs.

Secret move?

I have a full grasp on the controls of black myth Wukong. I have beat the game several times over. Though despite this, I can’t replicate the move I made at the 14 second mark. It would seem like I dodged and performed a heavy attack.

Best OTP to watch to improve?

Really enjoying Wu in the jungle but was curious if there’s any one tricks that people enjoy watching? Most guides I’m seeing on YouTube are Sawyer JG and FZ frost and those guys just spam content without really mastering any champion

Wukong is God Tier in Classic LoL

Wukong Mid is currently S+ in Classic LoL, he is nearly unrivaled with scaling and team fighting.

Why is it good?

Mid lane is currently mostly AP champions as Zed/Talon/Yasuo don't exist, this means most mid laners don't take armor runes, lethality is flat armor penetration and allows for near true damage.

How to build?

My build isn't refined but I find it is consistent and works for me.

Longsword + 2xHP Pots > Pickaxe | 2xRejuv beads | Boots + 2xHP pots > Tiamat + boots > Brutalizer | Sword of the Occult | Mobi boots > Ravenous Hydra > Black Cleaver > Maw of Malmortis | Guardian Angel | Randuin's Omen

How to Play?

Wukong is a massive lane bully, take advantage of your E attack speed / cooldown / mobility, as soon as there are 2 caster minions you jump onto the enemy champion and auto them until they run away, once you get level 2 you get Q and do the E>AA>Q>AA, nearly every mid lane will die to this when you stack on ignite and can use flash as an AA reset.

  • Once you get tiamat, hard push and make them burn mana to farm, when the lane bounces attack them and make them choose between minions or you. Keep your health up with knowledge of the jungler/support ganks.

  • Once you get level 6 with ignite, its 100% a kill.

  • Once you get Tiamat, start to take both wraith camps.

  • Get Mobi's SOTO and roam hard, a few kills snowballs you into a god.

  • Mid game is about roaming to stack your SOTO, go and blow up anyone who is feeding or squishy, be greedy and take everything without tilting your team too much

  • Team fighting is about being sneaky, hide in the shadows and as soon as the enemy ADC/APC shows up - W>E>AA>Q>AA>R>Ignite

  • Never go into dragon/baron pit unless the whole enemy team is dead, always look for a flank or be in position to flank, you're an assassin with AOE cleave.

What to avoid?

MINIONS! Jumping onto the enemy inside too many minions early will fuck you up, make sure you have your W to avoid aggro in large clumps.

What the enemy champions movements, Wukong is very readable so they can bait out the engage, before you go too deep make sure you know where the jungler/support is.

SOTO stacks are to be kept, don't kill yourself for nothing, play smart.

Wukong Masteries

Wukong Runes

Match History

If you have any questions or suggestions for Items/Runes/Masteries I'm all ears. The ones I have now feel good but I'm sure there is improvements. I've tried TriForce/Crit/Tankier it's all not great because it costs too much or removes your power too much.

Monkey is weak, needs Buffs!

Against AP the champ is dogsh!t. Since Riot has buffed the AP junglers meta, it's time for compensatory buffs to Wukong

Here are a few recommendations:

  1. Give his Ult 3 charges
  2. Make his passive gain armor and MR
  3. increase all his base stats by 5% (He literally is a monkey before the ult)
  4. Reduce W cd by 2 secs each level

All these are reasonable buffs to help Wukong find a respectable place in the AP jungle meta 😊

feels like eclipse buff can make eclipse rush a good choice over tri force

from lolalytics

yes the pick rate is low, only 400+games for gold + elo, but eclipse 1st item has a 55.83% wr over 53.27% of tri force. and in some specifc elo, eclipse rush has a 60% wr (bronze, 58.72% in gold, 56.16% in emerald, 60.32% in diamond, 57.45% in master)

I feel like wukong Q R has such a high ad ratio (Eclipse 60ad vs tri force 36ad), and the recent dmg % max hp passive dmg buff of eclipse, and wukong E AA or EQ would proc eclipse shield for 150 value, n eclipse cheaper, n cleaver streak gage give more ad, it looks very solid to switch over.

Ult cancel vs no cancel

Sorry if this is a repost I am new to this sub. I have been playing wukong for some time, and I've always thought using the ult for knockup then cancelling it early to use q and e before pressing w for the double ult is the most optimal damage but I've watched a few high elo wukongs use ult for the whole duration every time. Is there a reason for this? It always feels like the whole duration does less damage than your normal abilities.

Wukong E

As we all know, Wukong’s E used to deal AD-scaling physical damage, but after his rework it became AP-scaling magic damage. Now that Classic is out and many people have had the chance to play the old version again, would you want to see this mechanic return?

Would you be willing to lose one charge of R in exchange?

I believe Riot’s philosophy is that if a champion gains something beneficial, there should be a reduction somewhere else to compensate. For example, Wukong’s passive gives him bonus armor and regeneration, but his base armor and regeneration were heavily nerfed to account for it.

I think a large portion of Wukong’s power is tied up in his double knock-up. If we were to bring back an AD-scaling, physical-damage E, it could give Wukong a better way to scale and deal meaningful damage into the late game, while still keeping the core mechanics of his current ultimate with a single charge.

It would also give us a more meaningful trade-off: we gain stronger scaling and damage through E, but lose the second R charge.

What do you guys think? Would you trade the second R charge for AD-scaling physical damage on E?

Aram cassic-ish BONK! Augument

If you get Wukong in Aram classic, theres a chance you might roll BONK! Augu.

It improves your Q and makes it aoe-ish.

Best part about it are the sound and visual effects

Whoever designed it made it super fun. You can just run around spaming Q Saying "BONK!" Out loud every time it hits (if youre not doing taht youre getting a serious damage debuff).

Super fun!
