Anybody with Maths optional?
Hi Learners,
Just want to know whether Maths as an optional is a good or bad idea?
What’s been the success rate?
What’s the maximum marks that can be secured?
How to go about the paper?
Kindly suggest.

Okay so I never got it right with maths to begin with. My weakest subject has always been maths and the only time I saw my grades pivot for maths was during a month before my GCSEs where I miraculously jumped from a grade 5 to a 6. Then my dumbass decided to take it as an A level because I’ve always wanted to do an architecture degree in the future so with that majority of my teachers and friends & family encouraged me into taking to as an A levels. Turns out I never needed it 😝💔.
Just finished yeah 12 and I got ABE. Doing A level fine art, History and Maths.
Guess what I got an E on?? Maths.
I’ve been trying to move up to a B (optimistically) from the start of year 12 where I’ve also been on a E for maths 💀. I feel like I’ve dedicated so much time on maths but little to no progress has been made.
To be fair I was close to a D this time by 9 marks but still. I think I get the gist of how to revise maths but I don’t at the same time and I don’t know to spend my time wisely.
I also don’t think me spending a shyt ton of money on a tutor is gonna be worth it because it didn’t help during GCSEs and I know I’m not stupid but I’m js NOT clocking it 🙏.
I’ve got 2 months before Year 13 starts, so I want to use the summer properly.
So what should I do to improve. Also is me buying that graphics calculator worth it??
if i drop maths 9709 as a half A level(AS only material), will i fall behind in civil engineering university or petroleum engineering or like struggle alot in it?
Grade boundaries out of 275
Star 213?
A 182?
B 150 something?
I do well in GCSEs but I only got good grades from putting in loads of hard work, so I’m worried I might really struggle with A-levels. Also, is Further Maths super tough? Do you actually need a grade 9 just to enter it?
Hi can someone please help me ? I really need some advice, caie is so unfair. Recently i had given the a2 exam in may june and as you all know it was leaked. And we were given the option to give it in oct nov or on 8 june. I was informed through email and decided to give in oct nov. i had thought theyd tell us to fill out a form to sign up for oct nov and all. I had given an email a day late unfortunately thats on my part and mistake. I was emailed back saying they wouldnt refund OR transfer me to oct nov which was extremely confusing and all over a deadline. And then i took advice from caie coordinate ive known and he told me to email them again and i did asking if they coukd please rethink it. Transfer or refund, And now theyre reviewing it. I called that caie coordinate again and he said that i have to regive it ?? From AS?? Thats so unfair. Theyre not refunding me nor transferring me to oct nov session. I was not informed that after a year (i gave AS exam last year) youd have to restart like give AS exam again? i did not know about this all so please help what should i do
If you're a creator, please share any resources you've created this month. Videos, worksheets etc. Please don't link to any paid resources.
If you're a student and you're looking for extra resources please ask and someone might be able to help out.
p.s. this is just a trial at something new. If it doesn't work I'll stop posting. If you have any other suggestions for weekly/monthly posts let me know.
Is it even possible
Has anyone finished content early I’m planning to do all of pure 2 in holidays do i just then ask teachers to get frees instead of normal lessons so I can do mechs and stats what did u do?
I was an ICSE student till Class 10 and was consistently among the top students in Mathematics. But after joining CBSE and Allen for JEE preparation in Class 11, I've been struggling badly for the last 3 months.
Whenever I see a Maths question, I often can't even figure out how to start. Even after understanding the concepts, I find it difficult to identify the right approach. What's making it worse is seeing classmates who were much weaker than me in Class 10 now performing much better. It's affecting my confidence and making me anxious about Maths.
Has anyone gone through the same phase? If yes, how did you overcome it?
- How did you improve your problem-solving skills?
- How long did it take before you started seeing results?
- What changes in your study method made the biggest difference?
- What mistakes should I avoid at this stage?
I'd really appreciate advice from seniors or anyone who has been through a similar experience.
Since I’m now done with my A-Levels, I no longer care about grade boundaries so here’s the best resources and information so you can get an A or A*
Ill cut straight to the point and then get to the personal message after

What you need:
If you can get an iPad or tablet I’d strongly recommend doing so, it reduces paper waste and is much easier to carry around especially if you do multiple STEM subjects. I got the iPad 10th gen with Apple Pencil for around £350 and it’s served me very well.
If you can’t afford the iPad or tablet then paper and pen work good too of course.
You won’t need much else!!!
Calculators:
If you’re doing single maths I’d say a good scientific calculator will do, although the newer Casio’s in my opinion are quite bad the FX-911CW will get the job done.
If you’re also doing further maths I’d recommend a graphical calculator; either the CG50 or the cheaper FX-9750 will both do the same. The CG100 I think is pretty much a step down so if you can get the CG50 then do.
Madas maths:
This website can be confusing, but the main things you’d be using are the following;
I.Y.G.B Practise papers - ranging in difficulty that cover the majority of the spec in one paper! These will be split into MP1 and MP2 to represent AS content and A-Level content respectively. Press on that heading and then go to A-Level practise papers and they’re all there including the further maths stuff. The SYN papers are also really good and might be a little harder.
Maths booklets section - all the sections of this part apart from ADVANCED TOPICS will be useful for your studies just press on them to see the individual topics. If you find this hard you can literally just type into google “ Madas maths ( insert topic name) questions “
THE METHOD:
This is the method I’d follow when learning the content
use the textbook and see their method of approaching questions, use the info in there to attempt the practise questions in the book you will have time to do them ALL so please do. If you struggle on a topic then use YouTube, with the channels listed to see how they explain the content. DO THE CHALLENGE QUESTIONS!
once completing the chapter head over to madas maths to try the harder more complicated questions to solidify your knowledge with harder maths!
then move onto the next chapter
After completing the whole of the syllabus for maths or further maths, do the madas papers- there’s so many you’ll have plenty of practise. This makes the real papers infinitely easier.
Only do the real papers close to the exam as you need to save them till last ( please try to do them atleast 2 times to practise how your exam board presents the questions to you )
If you aren’t sitting AS, then do all the AS papers early to see how far along you are to then plan ahead what you need to do.
In all none of this won’t matter if you don’t try, don’t burn yourself out too early - little and often is always best. Also don’t worry if you see people online saying they can do this that or the other, they’re larping most of the time.
Good luck
hi im gonna start studying for maths but idk how should i study.. can someone pls suggest if i should join some sort of classes or yt etc.. and what is something u would like to suggest beforehand given im starting as math 😳
My school doesn’t normally offer further maths at gcse or a level and the only person that could teach it has barely any free lessons as he is deputy head and it would be only me in the class, I’m at the end of year twelve and getting almost full marks on every as paper and I do maths physics and engineering btec. Would it be doable to learn year 1 further over summer and learn year 2 further with only an hour or so a week teaching from him?

[Context: I am sitting Edexcel A-Level Pure paper 2 mock tomorrow (before P1).]
I just have a few oddly specific questions, I might add some more, idk.
Also, as someone who found GCSE maths so easy, why is A2 impossible to get into the flow of?
Qs:
im starting a levels tmrw so im in need for good notes to use for as and a levels
I know why this isn’t a good idea but I’m just interested if I would get full marks
is anything between 262-270 likely to be an Astar for alevel maths this year considering the papers were harder this year but there may still be grade inflation
so i am in year 11( i wish you guys are having a good time after tempestuous papers, best wishes), however, i need help because i am conflicted between getting a fx 991cw or the fx cg50, which i know is better but why expensive tho 😭😭😭. thanks.
I want to buy a graphing calculator for a level maths but can’t decide what calculator to choose. I know the cg59 has a better interface but the cg100 is newer so it should be better but people are telling me otherwise
