Can I legally shelter my displaced partner in Long Beach? His home burnt down in Altadena - He Graduated from UCSB and returned to nothing.

I (M27) have a boyfriend (M23) that lost everything to the Eaton Wildfire. If he wasn’t in the dorms, he would’ve lost all his clothes. Insurance still hasn’t paid out yet, and the reconstruction on the family home still hasn’t even began.

Since returning home, he’s been couch surfing, rotating sleepovers with family, and temporarily visiting me here and there while he searches for work. I asked my LL if I could move him in, and he said my BF would have to qualify via income and credit verification, neither of which he has currently.

He is firm on wanting to go the legal route, and I told him I don’t know what the best option currently is. We are aware of the Rental Aid and Transition Youth programs, but he needs a permanent residence asap.

Does anyone know what the law is for something like this?

I made a free tool that pulls every environmental record for a Pasadena address into one report (water, soil, radon, fire ash, land history)

Local homeowner here. Post-Eaton Fire I wanted to know what was in my soil and water and found the data scattered across EPA, USGS, CalEPA, county assessor, and a dozen other databases. So I spent a couple months connecting them.

Result: groundreport.app - enter an address, get a free environmental score across 9 categories, every claim linked to its government source. Pasadena's water system data is fully loaded (it's interesting).

Free link with no signup: https://www.groundreport.app?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=phase0a

Would love this community's honest take - what would make this actually useful to you?

What’s this bug?

Just started noticing these around our backyard in NW ‘Dena. Been here 16+ years and don’t recall ever seeing them before. I think they started showing up shortly after we ground down the final tree stump on the lot in preparation for the rebuild. They look bite-y 😐

Loma Alta park play structure closed?

I went a few weeks back and it was roped off. Anyone know if it’s still closed and/or what is the plan for the structure?

Commercial or commissary kitchen?

Hello everyone,

I have a charcuterie business I’m building and I’m searching for a kitchen to use. All the bigger named kitchens are in La or sfv and they’re pretty expensive. I would love to stay closer to home. I’m an Eaton fire survivor and rebuilding soon hopefully but money is a little tight. So if someone knows of a kitchen I could use I’d greatly appreciate it any leads. I’m in the process of getting my food managers certification as well so I can apply for my catering permit soon but I need a kitchen to operate out of.

Thanks!! 😊

SCE Recovery Compensation Community Meeting Last Night

I work nights and couldn’t make it. We weren’t homeowners but renters and I’m curious if they spoke to possibly any offering for renters. The quick money could help us, but it could never replace what we lost.

Eaton Fire Survivors Seek State Legislation SB 1090 that will put Fire Survivors in front of Developer’s Profits

This post should ideally be seen by all of r/California, but they don’t allow “call to actions” for some reason. If anyone knows how to broad cast this message more meaningfully - please do.

Hey y’all! I’m an Eaton Fire survivor from Altadena. We are facing a grim situation over here… Developer’s are having an easier time turning a profit than Fire Survivors are getting home. We need SB1090 to pass. Here is some background, but please click through the site for more info:

Through SB9 and SB1123 (bills passed years ago) developers are able to build through “by right” ministerial approvals and turn huge profits by splitting lots and building with very few restrictions. While Fire survivors have to work through the much slower county process and conform to all community standards that have been set.

These bills, SB9 and SB1123, were state bills passed to help with “urban infill”. Altadena is recovering from a disaster AND before the fire it would not be described as an urban setting.

We have worked with our elected’s offices and a wide swath of community groups to craft SB1090 and it’s moving through committees as we speak.

July 1st 9:30 AM there is a hearing and we need your help.

This is not a nimby argument. We want/need some density to bring folks home. That is protected in SB1090… we just need protection from corporations from profiting from our misfortune. Help us say no to disaster capitalism.

Please click on the link above and see if any of your representatives are on the Housing and Community committee, and if they are please consider calling and leaving a message. There are call scripts available - but think about how you would feel if after a disaster if this was happening in your community.

Thank you.

SCE Notice of Enrollment in Community Choice Aggregator Service

Anyone else get a notice like this from SCE? And if so, have you done any research on it yet? I'm trying to figure out how concerned I should be. Thanks!

Problem with Edson voluntary program

I applied for the voluntary pay and got all the way to the last step before receiving a check. At that point, they told me they could not confirm my legal name on my W-9. The phone people are completely useless.

Storage Space

Hi neighbors, we are finally starting to get into the design phase of our rebuild. I’m going to start buying appliances and replacement furniture as/if I find great deals. Do you have any suggestions for reasonable storage facilities in or super near Altadena? Thank you.

Remediation Question

Hi! I have purchased a house in Altadena. We have purchased blocks from my in laws who lost their home. My wife and I have purchased a home that is the only house standing on the street. The house survived but has not been remediated at all. The windows are blown out etc so we are taking it down to the studs. We have heard that some are doing testing once the house has been taken down to the studs and are still finding high levels of toxic debris. One of our friends kept getting high levels and found out it was coming from the sub floor. If we’re taking it down to the studs does anyone know what the risk is if we don’t test at that point? If we are putting all new floors, new insulation, etc. does anyone have any input on this? I feel like we should be ridding of lead and the risk etc by doing all of that, but wondering what everyone thinks. Thanks!
