Why do people hate/dislike Last Rites??

Why do people hate/dislike Last Rites??

Listening to it as I type this and I really can’t put my finger on how so many people universally dislike this song. To me it kicks serious ass with a badass riff, killer chorus and delightful outro.

I’d honestly go as far as to say I think it’s in the upper percentile of ab songs and I’d rank it about 5th in B-Sides (behind Breathe, Never Say Die, New Way to Live and Zero)

So that being said; why? Why do people dislike this song so much? What am I not hearing? Because all I hear is a badass song that IS a bit rough around the edges (which I think is forgivable considering the circumstances) but still manages to be a delightful listen.

About your pit's position

I'm planning to go on general admission/pit with the meet and greet package, but does any body knows how is the etiquette or protocols on respecting your position on it?

I mean, what if I need to go to the restroom?

Would people allow me to get back to my original place?

Thanks?

Crows on a Wire should be played Live still!

Nobody will ever convince me that The Last Hero album isn’t chock filled with killer tracks such as this and many others that translate extremely well to the Live show!!

I see nothing but audience participation and positive reactions!

…yet this album is skipped altogether!??

I’m this old…

This show has stories… odd sequence of events over a short amount of time. It is also has my most retold/acted out concert story about a concertgoer that I still think about.
18 years ago 3 middle aged dudes were pumped for this show. My buddies, one is a school principal, the other a cop and that are both marines and I walk in to the Webster. This place is a concrete rectangle that is a small general admission venue. We walk in and Alter Bridge just started. There was maybe 15 people there! We were like wft..we literally slowly walk to an empty space in front of Myles and Mark. We have our very own AB show for like 20 minutes as people slowly start coming in. It was kinda nuts. Watching Blackbird solo 5 ft in front of you with like 100 people. AB ripped. By the last song it was filling up.

Here is where things changed. AB finished, and it was like the Orc horn blow in Lord or the rings. The creatures came out. Me and my buddies are kinda looking at each other in disbelief. How did we just get to watch all that front row? Wanna stay here for 7dust? Sure….

So as we wait for 7D the place is getting crowed. Next to us is younger girl, maybe early 20’s. She is there alone, and just wanted to be close to the band. Me and my buddies are hanging and we notice this older creeper guy that is in his 40’s + wobble with his beer and starts talking to this girl. She wants none of it,and literally waves him off. My buddy the cop, the principal and me all noticed this. We are all dads. The guy shuffles away, but comes back and does it again. She is clearly annoyed. She wants nothing doing with this guy. We are on alert…this is happening next to us. He leaves, she is happy. The band is about to come on…you could feel such a shift in the energy of the room. It was unlike anything I ever felt. It was electric and packed.

The guy comes back….he is now hovering kinda behind her. She is against the rail. I am closet to the guy and we are keeping an eye on this.

LIGHTS GO OUT! Sevendust explodes and the crowd goes apeshit.

At this point I see our 20’ something year old friend turn around and she punched that guy so hard in the face he went down and out on the floor with his beer all over him.

He was out…

She turned around and rocked. Me and my friends looked at each other and dragged the guy off to the side…

We did our part!

The show was nuts, pit was crazy. My Marine buddies retreated…they made it through 1 and half songs. I stayed for like 4. I went back to find my buddies..and could see bodies flying and multiple people coming back on the sides all bloody. It was like a triage unit in the back.

I often wonder what that 20 year old girl is doing today? She is likely in a power position and the CEO of some company.

What a show.

Rue The Day Appreciation Thread

In my opinion, this is a perfect example of a classic/modern Alter Bridge rocker with killer riffs, verse, chorus and guitar solo. Reminds me of Come to Life, Isolation, Addicted to Pain, Bleed It Dry, The Writing on the Wall etc. Just checks all the boxes!

Bands That Deserved Better

This is kinda Alter Bridge adjacent, but reading other threads that recommend other bands, I noticed a few people pointing out artists that were no longer together.

It got me thinking about how The Mayfield Four deserved better at the time. Obviously, had they become big, we wouldn't have had Myles leading Alter Bridge - so "the universe has its way."

But what other bands deserved better than what they got who are no longer together.

A load of 2000s bands who signed to Wind-Up got screwed in my opinion. Like Atomship - they should have been massive.

Also, I've been relistening to Fair to Midland and thought that we lost a good band with them packing things in at 2013.

Anyway - have at it.

Looking to broaden my musical horizons- what are some of your favorite non AB songs?

A few of mine above

Don’t be shy, I don’t judge! I love all music :)

Anyone else like zero?

Admittedly, I’m not as big of a fan of AB III as everyone else seems to be but I always liked this song

It’s high up on the album for me

Walk The Sky

I've been listening to the band's discography and I just finished Walk The Sky. I have to be honest, I don't care for that album as a whole. The first half through Indoctrination is great but for me, the second half kinda falls flat. Those songs just don't do it for me like the first half. I think Godspeed, Native Son and Indoctrination are the best songs on the album. What does everyone else think about this album?

Do you like my tattoos?

(taking pics of my own arms was a little harder than I expected!)

The two original bird designs are by an artist friend of mine in Toronto. The one on my upper right arm with the lines to indicate soaring on the wind, and the one by my left wrist, smaller to indicate flying into the distance, are actually the same exact design. Just tilted a bit and reduced in size.

The text on my left upper and forearms don't quite align perfectly, and, being left handed, the first thing most people see is just "be broken again!" which kinda gives the wrong idea 😄 but on the whole I love 'em so much. Had 'em about 6 years now.

Best solo of each album?

Mark and Myles are riff and solo masters and I really wanna hear what others think are the best off of each album?

For me it's:

ODR - Burn It Down

Blackbird - Ties That Bind/Blackbird

AB III - Ghost of Days Gone By/Home

Fortress - Cry Of Achilles

TLH - Show Me A Leader

WTS - Dying Light

PAK - Fable of a Silent Song

AB - What Lies Within/Scales Are Falling

I personally think thay Fable has their best ever solo, the call and response by Mark and Myles on this song is nothing short of perfect imo. They took the perfection that was Blackbird and made it a fast, heavy and fun solo.

Edit: Show Me A Leader is my favorite song by them and might even be my favorite song of all time and that intro solo is a huge reason why along with the rest of the song being perfect.

Listened to this greatness for the first time after putting it off waaaay too long... Wondering why they don’t make it available on streaming?

Pretty much what the title says. I’m guessing it’s not that simple, like they aren’t allowed to or something? And yes, I’m aware of Spotify’s “local files” thing and I use it for b sides- i just think it’d be cool to get these officially uploaded…
