Guidance reqd. for Plat Reserve to MRCC Downgrade (New User)

I do not hold any Amex Card yet, however I would like to have like to hold the MRCC. Since MRCC is directly not available, I have heard vaguely of some downgrade method through Plat Reserve.

I would appreciate if someone could please explain me the process in detail, of what needs to be done immediately after applying for Plat Reserve.

I also have a few questions:

  1. For the first year, will I be charged the joining fee for Plat Reserve or joining fee for MRCC or both?

  2. Will I be getting welcome benefits of Plat Reserve or welcome benefits of MRCC, or is there a possibility to make a choice somehow ?

  3. Plat Reserve also provides some Accor Explorer + and Taj Epicure memberships, is there any possibility to get and keep those memberships ?

  4. How do the timelines of these downgrade strategy look like starting from applying Plat Reserve ?

  5. Also I read somewhere that MRCC upgrade link is better than asking it through customer support, so can you provide the link too ?

Is it worth it?

I have had my AMEX PLAT TRAVEL since 2 years.
This year the renewal was in January and soon after the first devaluation happened.
Now we have another devaluation as well.

I also have Axis Atlas as my primary card since I’m not able to complete the 7 Lac spending on plat travel.

Is it really worth it to keep it?
What do i do with the 60k points i have on amex.

Amex - Revaluation - Virgin Atlantic & Hilton

After a series of frequent devaluations, Amex has finally done some new GOOD changes.

New transfer ratios:

Hilton Honors
1 MR = 1.50 Hilton points
From 0.90 — 66.7% improvement

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club
1 MR = 0.80 Virgin points
From 0.50 — 60% improvement

Many people would have transferred points already. Its a sneaky move by Amex.

What do you all think of these changes?

Amex Upgraded Bonus Help

I recently upgraded my amex plat travel to amex plat charge in the upgrade offer through amex. I know I might be crazy to assume this, but please go through the T&C document.

As per my understanding, I am eligible to -

  1. 100K MR points under the upgrade benefit, if I complete the 50K spends (point 7.1)

  2. 25K MR points, if I am amongst the first 300 to apply for upgrade (point 7.2)

  3. 25K addition MR points, if I complete the 50K spends (point 7.3)

  4. Optional vouchers amongst the three (Taj or Luxe or Postcard), if I complete the 50K spends (point 8)

I have contacted the amex helpline, and they confirmed I am only eligible for the 100K MR points.

According to me point 7.2 and point 7.3 refer to two different 25K MR points. And nowhere it is mentioned that I am not eligible for point 8, if I am applying for upgrade.

Please let me know If I am right, if yes what are my options?

Here are the terms and conditions for the upgrade -

https://www.americanexpress.com/content/dam/amex/in/benefits/IA_Plat_RCP_Upgrade_E2E_Risk_July_2026.pdf

PS - I only spent the 77K, because I thought I will be getting a lot of benefits. :-(

GST Payments are now accepted via AmEx

Just got on a call with my AmEx RM.
They have tied-up with ICICI and when doing GST Payments we need to use Credit Card and choose ICICI payment gateway. There is a 2% convenience fee but the good part is Reward Points will be earned on GST Transactions done.
I use a Corporate Card of AmEx.

Amex India - Credit Limit

On what basis will the credit limit be decided in Amex ecosystem? Do they start with low ?

I have 800 CIBIL score, 6 digit salary per month but customer agent told me that my credit limit is 1Lakh. I was genuinely surprised.

Edit : I have applied for platinum reserve

What’s the best use of my 125K MR

I’m thinking of closing my Plat Travel and left with 125,907 MR in my account. I do travel once a year internationally and this year I’m planning to visit Vietnam. I may get married in the next 1-2 years and will be going to Bali / Maldives for honeymoon. If not married I shall go to Singapore + Malaysia in the next year.

I’m confused on how should I utilise these points before I close the card. I’ve 2 options in my mind as of now

  1. Transfer 28.8K into Flying Club and the rest into Marriott. I don’t prefer to stay in Marriott during my stay in Vietnam.

  2. Transfer to Marriott entirely for Bali / Maldives

HYD - HAN Round Trip: 0.672 per point 23000 Flying Club (28,800 MR) + ₹17k Taxes (£130.30)

Cash Fare: ₹18014 + ₹17750 Taxes = ₹35674

Please suggest if any better options available

Bonus points on transfer to Virgin Atlantic and Hilton Honours

For those who have actually used Virgin Points or Hilton Honors from India, how’s the value in practice?
Any good redemption sweet spots or experiences worth sharing? Trying to understand whether either transfer is worth using my MR points for.

Cancelled Amex Plat Travel Card after the de-valuation. What card to get now ?

I was annoyed by the constant de-valuation and still high renewal fees. Cancelled my card today when renewal was due. Now I have these cards -

  1. Yes Bank Elite +
  2. Amazon Pay ICICI
  3. IDFC Mayura

I mostly used my Amex everywhere and ICICI for Amazon Payments. Should I completely shift to IDFC Mayura or get some other card ?

I normally spend around 10 -15 Lakhs a year on stuff bought via Credit Card.

I accumulated some 70k points in Mariott Bonvoy and would want to keep adding points there so I can redeem them on a vacation in the future. I prefer Hotel ./ Flight sort of redemption.

Help for Japan Redemption - 150k points - Feb 2027

Hi folks,
I’m planning for a Japan trip next year mostly in the month of Feb 2027 with my wife. Planning for a 15 day trip and flexible with the dates.

I have around 150k amex points and need flight redemption, usually would keep origin as Mumbai. But if other cities provide better points redemption, would give it a try.

Tried the Virgin to ANA route, but the taxes are too high for a round trip (around 1.3 lakhs for 2 passengers).

So if you guys know a better way to use these points, would be great.

Paid ₹9,775 for a ₹97k Japan trip. Breakdown of my transition-year Amex stack inside

Sharing an end-to-end redemption since people keep asking if Plat Travel still makes sense post-devaluation.

Short answer: my exact stack no longer exists, but the math is worth bragging.

TLDR: I ate my share of benefits, if i am gonna repeat it’s gonna give me points once in two years instead of one for a good economy round trip somewhere.

The earn:

Plat Travel :

Base on ₹7L spend @ 1/₹50: 14,000
Welcome bonus: 10,000
₹1.9L milestone (pre-deval chart): 15,000
₹4L milestone (pre-deval chart): 25,000 + ₹10k Taj voucher
₹7L milestone (post-deval chart): 22,500

Caught the transition mid-year, so all three milestones landed in the same card year — the old ₹1.9L/₹4L pair AND the new ₹7L tranche. This is the part that can’t be replicated anymore.

MRCC :

Welcome bonus + base earn + partial monthly milestones (didn’t optimize the ₹20k/month bonus every month, still added up)

The transfer:

99,000 MR → Marriott Bonvoy 1:1 → ANA Mileage Club in two blocks: 60k Bonvoy @ 3:1 + 5k bonus = 25,000 miles, then 39k @ 3:1 = 13,000 miles. Exactly 38,000 ANA miles, zero orphaned points.

The burn:

38,000 ANA miles + ₹9,775 taxes = round-trip India–Japan on a Star Alliance partner, peak season, 30kg baggage, open jaw. Same-cabin cash fare for my dates: ~₹97,000 (checked on the airline’s own site).

Not all airlines offer low tax after mile redemption, that’s also one major point.

The ROI:

Cash out: ₹17.4k total (both card fees + award taxes)

Value in: ~₹1.09L (₹87k of fare covered + ₹10k Taj voucher + ~₹11k residual points)

6.2x return on cash. ~10% net rewards rate on ₹9.5L routed spend. ₹2.29 per airline mile — in economy.

Cash out: ₹17.4k total (both card fees + award taxes)
against a fixed award chart: cash fares inflated, the chart didn’t.

Edit: only works through Singapore airlines any other airlines will cost 40-50k more

What cards would you suggest to pair with the Platinum reserve?

I used to hold a platinum travel that I upgraded last month to the reserve. Just needed some general advice on what card I can use to pair it with the reserve to maximise travel and flight spends, maybe something like the travel one or HDFC Mariott card.

Best points value

I have an amex plat travel with currently 32.5k points. I feel like I should close it as I am unable to hit the milestones plus with the recent devaluation it seems like the better choice. I want suggestions for best point redemptions (blr based) and an opinion to close or keep it.

Amex Reversed my annual fees on Platinum Travel !

My Annual renewal had happened in June 26 and After this current devaluation, I called the customer care to understand if they still do the pro rata refund of annual fees upon cancellation of the card !
I have been holding this card since 2013 and have been regular with my payments and spends !
They offered to reverse my annual charges and wanted me to continue the relationship with them !
They also mentioned about some new partners getting added with Amex in the near future !
