Amex platinum charge referral 35K points query

I recently got the Platinum Charge Card primarily for the referral offer, since it gives 35,000 Membership Rewards (MR) points per successful referral, with a cap of 500,000 MR points per calendar year.

Initially, I expected to complete around 15 referrals, which would have allowed me to earn the full 500K MR points along with the card's welcome benefits. However, Amex has recently been processing applications much more slowly than expected, so I'll likely end up with only 4 successful referrals (140K MR points).

Because of this, I'm considering closing the Platinum Charge Card before the first statement is generated to avoid paying the annual fee.

So far, I've received referral points for 3 successful referrals, and I'm still waiting for the points from the 4th referral. I also have an active Platinum Travel Card.

My question is: If I close the Platinum Charge Card before the first statement is generated, what will happen to the referral MR points I've already earned? Will they remain in my Membership Rewards account (since I still hold the Platinum Travel Card), or will they be forfeited?

Amex CC 6 months jewellery restrictions !

There is upcoming marriage in home. I wanted to Amex platinum Travel card for jewellery expanses. But read on internet ( Gemini ) that within first 6 months of getting card, i cannot use it for buying jewellery.
I also saw a post related to this - https://technofino.in/community/threads/amex-credit-cards-no-gold-jewellery-purchase-in-first-6-months.26521/

Is it correct ? Is there any workaround or alternative?

Fresh Applications for SE & MRCC

AmexIndia is currently not accepting fresh applications for SE & MRCC. Currently i do not hold any Amex card.
Guidance on how do i track when Amex start accepting fresh applications would be appreciated. OR any other way on how i can apply for SE/MRCC when they are not accepting fresh applications.

Card suggestions

Currently I have 3 cards:

HSBC RuPay Cashback- paid card for UPI and 10% CB on F&B categories.

HSBC Live+ - paid card for F&B categories. I use this for 10-11k a month and get the 1000 CB.

Regalia Gold - LTF and till recently my main card. With the devaluation and it being LTF, there’s no spend required.

So, my thought process is to look for an Amex to hold as the main card (For Non F&B categories & UPI) mainly for Amazon and other daily spends (maybe even vouchers, which I currently don’t use).

So, here’s what I’m trying to decide:

Should I go for Smart Earn or MRCC.

With Smart earn, the 40k spend is a given. With this card, I can spend directly on Amazon and get 5x points. (Don’t use any of the 10x partners).

Or

With MRCC, I will definitely hit the 90K and maybe even the 1.5L with one off spends.

The confusion is because Smart earn directly gives 5X on Amazon but with MRCC, I can do 4 transactions of 1.5k buying vouchers or normal shopping.

Which option is better? Also, are these cards being offered currently

After long time, Apple has again allowed cards for adding funds to your Apple Account. But sadly no Amex option.

For Amex users, our option is to buy those “email delivery” gift cards/vouchers on Amazon, then redeem them. If you do it with Shopwise you get the reward multiplier as well.

Apple used to allow cards, long ago. iTunes days. After RBI changes, apple switched to net banking and UPI only - and for adding funds. You can’t tokenise a card and directly charge the card for purchases. Long ago, on iTunes and App Store you used to be able to.

Minimum income for Amex approval in India?

I’m thinking about applying for an American Express credit card in India, but I’m not sure what income they realistically expect.
I know there are official eligibility criteria, but I’d love to hear from people who actually have an Amex card.

Best way to redeem Amex MRCC + HDFC Regalia Gold points for Delhi → Guangzhou trip?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning a trip from Delhi (DEL), India to Guangzhou (CAN), China in the next few months and would like to maximize my credit card rewards for award flights.

Here's what I currently have:

  • Amex MRCC: ~78,000 Membership Rewards points
  • HDFC Regalia Gold: ~4,000 points (I redeemed most of them recently)
  • ICICI Coral: ~14,000 reward points (as far as I know, these can only be transferred to Air India)

I'm a member of most major airline frequent flyer programs (Star Alliance, SkyTeam, oneworld, etc.), so opening a new loyalty account isn't an issue.

My questions:

  1. What's the best transfer partner for Amex MR points for this route?
  2. Is it better to transfer to Singapore KrisFlyer, Cathay Asia Miles or something else?

I'm flexible with dates, willing to connect once if it provides significantly better value, and I'm mainly looking for Economy, although I'd consider Business if the redemption value is exceptional.

Any advice or recent redemption experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Platinum reserve worth continuing?

I have an Amex Platinum reserve card I got in 2024. I have accumulated 50k MR points until now but nowadays I am hardly using it. Also, it's supposedly one of the worst cards to get value out of, but I didn't realise it until I got one.

Now, I tried to call Amex customer service and get this card replaced with the Plat travel, but they said they're not issuing new cards currently.

So I have 4 questions:

  1. Should I keep trying to get it replaced by plat travel or any other card?

  2. Should I continue to keep it if they're not replacing it with plat travel?

  3. What are the best spend offers or points I can get out of it?

  4. What are the best redeem options for the existing 50k points?

Would like to get some hel regarding this.

Thanks in advance

Platinum charge- Is anyone able to avail $100 hotel credit benefit?

I have platinum charge card.
I don’t understand how do I make a hotel booking and avail the $100 hotel credit.
There is no way to book via amex. When I called concierge services, they told me the travel desk is under maintenance and there is no way to avail this benefit.
How is it fair that we pay full premium of almost 80k a year and can’t avail a major benefit .
If anyone has an idea, let me know.

Advice on best way to utilise 1.85L MR points for Maldives trip

I’m looking for advice on best way to redeem 1.85L MR points for a Maldives trip around November or in January (avoiding December as prices are bonkers). While I thought Marriott 1:1 would be the best way, the prices per night at Marriott properties are really high. These points wouldn’t even fetch me 2 nights at a nice property. Alternatively, I’m not sure if any airline redemption will make better sense.
If anyone has done a Maldives trip with MR points, do suggest the best way to optimise.

I’m also open to suggestions of other countries in SE Asia, if Maldives doesn’t give good redemption value in Nov or Jan.

Is there any website like seats.aero for Amex India flight transfers and estimated points usage. With the number of permutations and combinations its difficult for me to hone into the best path.

Late payment fee levied for 0.39 paise due. Anyone faced?

There is an emi going on with my amex card and usually I pay full amount. This time I missed out 0.39 paisa and there you go 😃

Never had this type of accurate banking practices in other Bank Credit cards.
