Do you mourn the loss of fansubs (cheesy or otherwise)?

Nowadays I mostly read manga rather than watch anime, but when I was a teen and didn't really know english (most mangas were translated from eng to my language, rather than directly from the japanese, so it was usually very far behind) all I had avaliable to me were anime episodes translated by random fans and uploaded to the pirate websites.

But I can't help but noticing that those I do watch mostly just use the official crunchyroll sub, which I do admit is probably much easier and has less delay, but boy sometimes it's outright wrong or just doesn't express a certain culture very well. Yes, it has eliminated the "all according to keikaku" type of thing late 2000's translators had going on, but it also glosses over honorifcs that many times are very important cues on the relationship between the characters, traditional dish names that sometimes make the food unrecognizable (recently i've come across nikuman being referred to as meat bread, which IS correct but would you really think of steamed nikumans by reading that description?) and has outright bias by omission.

It has me thinking that many of the new watchers will never come in contact with the now almost deceased "otaku" culture (even I haven't heard this in a while, and middle schooler me had a massive "otaku girl UwU button pin in my backpack), and it kind of makes me a little wistful for that feeling — even the badly translated stuff used to be extra fun and took chuckles out of me, plus the subtitles who were always colored for some reason. So, if you've been watching anime/consuming japanese media long enough to have gotten that era, do you miss it?

Hianime operators arrested?

According to this Linkedin post by the ACE they claim (and celebrate):

"ACE applauds the actions of Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security (MPS), in particular C03, the Economic Crimes Investigation Department, and A05, the Department of Cybersecurity and High-Tech Crime Prevention, in arresting and prosecuting seven operators believed to be behind Hianime and related piracy services."

I wonder why nobody talks about this and also nothing was reported by trash mainstream media yet.

What site are you guys currently using?

I've been trying to get into anime again. But all the sites that I used to watch anime on are gone.

It's been a hot minute since I've watched anything, so recommendations are appreciated!

Anyone know where to find these?

I was watching a YouTuber react to Re:Zero and I noticed that the subtitles were WAY different from Crunchyrolls subtitles and I tried looking EVERYWHERE to find what its called or how to watch it that way but I’ve gotten no luck so far.

Does anyone know where to find these kind of subs that fix the translation issues that Crunchyroll has? And if so PLEASE let me know.

Closest thing I found to the answer was fansubs but I have no clue where to look or even if it’s the right answer.

So I have 1 hour bus ride then a 3 hour train ride and I need an movie/anime app that works best offline/cell data (tunnels, wifi and cellular data deadzones, etc etc).

Been watching this one anime and tv show that has me hooked and wanted to see if there were any offline apps or like cellular data friendly apps.

RIP anime nexus

As of a couple of hours ago anime nexus is gone, the domain expired. Maybe they're moving to a new domain, but if that's the case the new domain should already be available

EDIT: IT'S BACK

¿Is Anime AV1 reliable?

I wanted to watch some anime that aren't on any platform; I haven't done any online piracy before, because I'm afraid of viruses.

¿So Anime AV1 is reliable and doesn't have any viruses?

slop coded anime sites

why are slop coded sites at the top of the index? is it really the best choice in spite of all the glaring issues, vibe coding, and overall severe lack of dubs or some animes that are only dubs[???]? am i even using the index right? really tired of all these slop coded sites[not just the anime piracy ones]

BUT id still rather never watch anime again then pay crunchyroll a dime.

recommendations for SOFT SUBS streaming sites?

I really need alternative streaming sites that let you turn off subtitles. Basically, non embedded subtitles. I used to use anikai, when it went down i used a copy anikai (.cc) but today its not loading. I also found anime nexus but the servers seem to be western and they really load slow for me. I know about nyaa but I really cant be bothered with disk space management right now.

I'm in desperate search for all Inuyasha episodes with the German dub. Quality is not paramount, even a digitalized VHS version would make me very happy. Since the dub got very rare and is respectively difficult to find I'd like to kindly ask if you can give me advice for my search. Thanks a lot.

Why is cloudfare verifying something every time I change an ep on anime nexus?

There's no way it's checking if I'm human every single time, so what else can it be verifying

Cloudflare*, I missspelled it
