New to Ar22 and going for a replica of my 11.5" 556

I've been contemplating building a dedicated 22lr upper to run on one of my sbr lowers for a while now, and decided I would fully replicate my 11.5" upper in the process. I will be using an aero stripper receiver, bcm mcmr 10, and going with a bore buddy barrel and bolt combo.

I'm just trying to decide if I should go apogee match or apogee for the barrel. Maybe I just need a sounding board to think out loud, as I've read a ton of posts and may have information overload. With the money I'm already putting into this build (albeit admittedly excessively) I'd like to save the extra 100, but at the same time, another 100 isn't that much more expensive if the quality of the match barrel is that noticeable over the non match barrel.

My 11.5" shoots sub moa at 100y with the right ammo, and I would at least like moa or better at 100" with the 22lr, but my real big plan with this one is to get metal targets set up in the standing ranges and do more close quarter stuff, likely 25-50y. The biggest driving factor for wanting to do the dedicated 22 upper is to use it as a trainer and to get into some local 22 events on top of just training fundamentals and movement without the cost of 223/556. I feel like with that in mind, the normal apogee might be plenty?

Anyone have any thoughts they could share? point me in the right direction?

Atrius Selektor 10.3 PSA 5.56 W/ CMMG 22lr kit troubleshooting..

I currently have this set up in my rifle and I bought the weight kit and extra springs and buffer and I was messing around at the range and could only get a quick three rounds off, followed by the hammer, not resetting and a dead trigger

I tried messing with different weights. I tried messing with springs. I tried taking the weight out completely. I noticed that the trip was getting a little beat up but nothing out of the ordinary. It just looks like normal wear.

I don’t know what combination people are using to get this running, but it’s been an absolute nightmare trying to figure out what works …

If anybody can give me some advice that would be great!

My borebuddy 21-in apogee match barrel

I I know it’s hard to fully tell from the photos, but I did my best to show the issue. In person, the problem is much easier to identify.

I bought this barrel about two years ago, but during that time I was in the middle of moving states, so I never had the chance to properly test it until recently. After finally getting some range time and troubleshooting done, I found that the barrel is unfortunately not 100% in spec with the CMMG bolt setup.

The main and honestly only issue I have is reliability. Everything appears normal at first, and it will usually feed the first couple rounds, but after that the rounds stop fully seating. After extensive testing, I believe the barrel sits slightly too high in relation to the CMMG feed ramp, causing the rounds to nose jam instead of feeding cleanly into the chamber.

I have tested this with three different .22LR bolts, several magazines, and multiple setups, and the problem remains consistent across all of them.

At this point I was honestly considering giving up on the barrel entirely and just purchasing a complete kit from JP Enterprises so I wouldn’t have to keep mixing parts from different manufacturers. Considering I paid around $425 for this barrel at the time, I could have bought the JP kit instead and likely would have been much happier overall.

To be clear, my complaint is strictly about reliability and fit/function. Accuracy was never my concern.

I also want to be upfront and honest that I did attempt to modify the barrel myself by working on the feed ramp area to try lowering it enough for proper feeding. I fully accept that I likely botched it trying to make it work.

That said, if BoreBuddy is willing to help me out with the situation, I am more than willing to pay compensation for repair or correction. I’m not asking for anything for free. I’d gladly pay up to around $125 if the issue can realistically be corrected. If not, I’ll probably move forward with the JP Enterprises kit and call it a learning experience.

Malfunction mitigation ideas?

I've been getting some nasty malfunctions where I can't get a cartridge to seat fully. Causes the jacket of the bullet to get sheared back. Using Kriss 25 round magazines. Occurs most notably with CCI SV, Clean 22, Rem Thunderbolts (I know, I know).

More likely to occur with more rounds in the magazine.

Any advice on how to remedy this? Does the chamber need blended more? Would a stronger recoil spring like the BB 6 lb help?

Borebuddy Apogee upper 12 inch

CMMG bolt retrofitted with BB collar and parts minus recoil spring. Has a pressure apparatus for the bolt backplate.

Green Mountain or Lilja Barrel?

I'm looking at buying a bore buddy upper to setup as a .22 AR-trainer for my family, that I'd like to also use for some precision shooting.

Both the Green Mountain and Lilja barrels are listed as sub MOA capable. Is the Lilja barrel that much of an upgrade for the additional $400? Is it worth paying more to "buy once, cry once"? Or am I unlikely to realistically see a difference?

Borebuddy Apogee threadless barrel opinion.

Living in a state where barrel devices have to be pinned and welded I have considered getting the 16" Apogee threadless and foregoing a muzzle device or thread protector. I am looking for any opinions on this model or the Apogee line. Also if anyone knows anyone else that makes a 16" threadless in $200 price range, I am open to suggestions.

Tactical Solutions Upper?

I found a dedicated 22LR Tactical Solutions 4.5" upper with Bore Buddy pressure plug, charging handle insert, and 4 mags, never fired....$399. I have never heard of Tactical Solutions, is this something to stay away from? Seems they no longer produce 22lr uppers.

Request for advice and suggestions.

I have gone back and forth on building a dedicated AR22 rofle. I have looked at the M&P 15-22, and the Tippman M4 22. Infact i ordered an Tippman, and after 4 months I had to get a refund as it seemed the distributor was never going to ship it to my ffl.

I have built an AR22 pistol using a CMMG conversion bolt and regular AR barrel. It seems there gave been a lot of changes in options since I did that and last researched the project.

I think I want to just build a dedicated upper as I gave plenty of AR lowers built with good triggers etc. No reason to invent the wheel.

I'm pretty sure I have an extra upper or 2, and a handguard, so about all is need is a barrel, bolt, and charging handle. What I want is as follows.

A good quality, reasonably accurate, threaded 16" .22 barrel.

A dedicated bolt ie. one without the hardware nose to span the 5.56 chamber but interface with the .22 chambered barrel.

I know there will be weights and trips and a bit of tinkering and tuning to get everything running right.

So at current, what are good brands /models to look at? What am I missing / overlooking? Any links and advice would be helpful and appreciated.

Edit to add: one host lower may get a SS, would be nice to work together, but definitely not its primary role.

Anyone using a 9" barrel with FRT

I have a 9" barrel ar22 with atrius and rave 140. Can't get it to run, just getting hammer follow. I'm using bore buddy gen4 weight. I think I need the lightweight adjustable weight instead. Anyone else have a similar setup just curious of your weight situation.

I tried every config with gen 4 weight. Happens even with no weights installed

The best I get is maybe 4-10 rounds if I'm lucky. 90% of the time it's just a single rounds then dead trigger

Build:

Psa lower/upper

Dirty bird9" barrel

Rtb bolt

Bore buddy Hardened extractor

Bore buddy crescent firing pin

Bore buddy Gen 4 weights

Bore buddy atrius trip kit

Atrius frt

Rave140

22 conversion w/ barrel liner in place of adapter for 300blk?

Does anyone make this? A typical liner is a bit fat and would do better in a 350 Legend with a PU bushing but is it possible in 300blk?

Rave 140 for 22lr

I'm here to warn you — the RAVE 140 is not the way to go for .22 LR.

The Blitz trigger worked 100% out of the box for me in .22 LR. Better springs, no set screws, and no constant tuning. I think a lot of people are going to run into problems with the 140 setup.

I tried giving the RAVE 140 a fair shot. I even contacted the company and they are sending me a replacement, but I made it clear I do NOT want the same trigger design again. I don't want to deal with set screws where you have to get everything perfectly adjusted just to function correctly.

Mine does not work reliably. Yes, I got some shots off, but overall it's been a headache. Meanwhile, look at my Blitz trigger — bought it back in November, thousands of rounds through it, and it still runs great.

I know the RAVE 140 is the cheaper option, but if you want to learn from my mistakes and avoid problems with your .22 build, go with the Blitz or something better.

Bolt weight/ trip review

I don’t want to sound hypocritical, but I wanted to share some information based on my personal experience.

I highly prefer and recommend trips from Super Safety Shop.com, although they may require slight modification for the Atrius Super Safety setup. In the last photo, you can see the setup I’m referring to.

I also strongly recommend BoreBuddy steel and aluminum bolt weights, along with the red sp recoil spring & firing pins, and extractors from BoreBuddy.

In the photo, you can also see that I replaced the BoreBuddy weights with a simple .22LR bullet. The round used was a Remington Cyclone .22LR. Besides using Mini-Mag ammo, I also recommend the Remington Cyclone.

I do not recommend purchasing Gray Market Research trips or bolt weights, because in my experience the plastic components do not hold up well over time, as shown in the photo.
