Paano po magpatayo ng bahay? Retirement home for my parents

Literal na "home matters" :)

Where to start? My lote na po parents ko and gusto ko sana ako na yung magpapatayo ng bahay nila at ako na rin bahala kung pano itatayo (choosing contractors and stuff..)

Im clueless kung magkano aabutin pero i think kaya naman for downpayment and pwede din akong mag loan sa bank or sa pag-ibig. OFW po ako and I registered sa pagibig dati as one of the requirements bago ako makaalis.

I asked about this kasi gusto kong mabago diskate ng pamilya ko. Looking back, pag nagpapagawa sila ng bahay sa properties nila, puro DIY - sariling pili ng atrabador, then diskarte nila for the sake of "makamura" but ended up di lagi maganda yung pagkakagawa, may mga leaks and they had constant stress kung ginugulangan ba sila nung mga atrabador or hindi. Tapos medyo magulo din yung design ng interior. Walang maayos na theme.

So this time, gusto kong ibahin yun, i would like to hire professionals and possibly yung "naka package na". My parents still wants to choose their desired style pero sana may guidance na ng professional. And sana yung may maayos na construction timeline na.

So ayun, pano ako magsisimula? Ano-ano yung mga dapat kong asikasuhin or iplano? My PH-counterpart ba ng Houzz. com? If there are fellow OFWs or anyone based abroad, any recommended companies that are easy to contact and to deal with even remotely? Whats the smart way to finance this?

any tips, stories to share, comments etc will be helpful. Salamat in advance :)

COPIED MY OWN WORK?

Hi, Arkis!

FOR REFERENCE

IYONG PANGIT/MADUMI ANG AKIN

AT ITONG MALINIS ANG KAY CLASS REP

ACTUAL REFERENCE FROM GOOGLE SA LAST PIC

and my correction sa plate ko kasi nalagay ko 6/20/2026 hahahaha

Last night was the submission ng aming plate sa isang subject.

You can see sa 5th pic na maaga ako nagpasa and ang deadline ay 10pm ng May 20.

So kampante ako magpasa kasi marami din akong pending plates kaya di ko na naisa-isa iyong mga ipinasa ng mga kaklase ko.

So, earlier while we were collecting the physical copies of our plates sa subject na ito, including this plate, one of my classmates approached me na parang "duplex" daw iyong plate namin ni class rep kasi same na same (the duplex word is an inside joke for us kasi hindi pa nila alam dati ang meaning ng duplex house) so I asked if sino tapos I tried to check sa GDrive, kasi doon kami nagpapasa. Anyways, iyong gdrive ay gawa ng aming class rep and sya rin iyong nagsasara non by 10pm and si class rep din iyong nanggaya sa plate ko.

For clarification, we can get our reference sa google, and since I don't have an actual pic ng museum, I decided na sa google na lang kumuha.

I actually expect na rin na may makakatulad ako ng reference but what I did not expect ay magiging gayang-gaya nya iyong sa akin.

I immediately asked her via pm kung ginamit nya ba iyong gawa ko at ine-AI nya.

She said na hindi and same lang daw kami ng nakuhang reference sa google.

She did not admit it even though there is so much evidence na makakapagsabing inupload nya sa AI iyong gawa ko.

Later on, she said na she used my work daw as her reference kasi nahirapan sya sa ibang parts nung actual pic ng reference from Google which is for me unfair kasi bakit sa plate ko sya mismo nagbase? Maski ako nahirapan doon sa actual reference but never in my life na I will use and copy my classmate's work dahil hindi mo kaya iyong nasa mismong ref.

She also said na pina-enhance nya sa AI iyong work nya.

Hindi nya inadmit na inupload nya mismo iyong work ko sa ai together with her own work.

AND THIS IS WHAT SHE TOLD ME (HER LAST CHAT)

"I really am sorry about this. Yung title block is centralized talaga sya before enhancing. As i mentioned, since naging same reference tayo sa plate and ginamit ko yung iyo as reference sa ilang part para maging madali yung paggawa ko since nagkaroon nga ng sudden emergency and gahol sa time, ginaya ko nalang yung title block mo.

Nung time na puro bura na ako dahil sa taranta, dun ko inenhance yung title block. But since may bakat bakat na yung paper and nasasama na sya sa scanner, crinop ko yung part na yun (— and —) title block mo and asked ai to change the name and ehance the writing."

PS: I hid the name of the school and college because it might reach the admins. I already confronted her, and if this happens again, I will definitely report her.

NU MANILA - BS ARCHI, may chance ba ako? 🥹

I was SO GLAD to receive an email from NU Manila, informing me that I passed the CAPSBE Skill Test ( Entrance Exam ) for BS Architecture !! however, hindi umabot sa required GWA of 90% yung grades ko, as I have received an average of 89 and 88 from my SHS report cards.

I just wanted to know if may naka-experience ng ganitong case, similar to mine. And if so, how did it turn out? What did you do after? Pumasa ka ba or hindi?

Now, i'm thinking between emailing them to directly address this concern or ipasa ko na lang as is yung CTC ko. 🥹

Rule 7&8: What's your study strategy?

Hi architects, help a reviewee out here with your wisdom. How did you study for day 2 design, especially rule 7&8? Masyado ako na overwhelm at kinakabahan for day 2. I tried solving practice problems but I still find myself always second guessing my answers after I solve them. There are also times when I get intimidated or confused with the details of the given problem that I end up feeling so frustrated.

How do I fix this? Ayoko na ganito pa din ako during exam. What was your strategy during your review whenever you felt overwhelmed? Do share pls.

Ano mas ok gamitin sa ibabaw ng roof para mas makalessen ng init at kuryente. Butyl tape or insulation cotton?

Since napakainit at taas ng kuryente sa pinas im looking for ways to lessen heat and lower aircon electricity bill. And while scrolling sa facebook and tiktok nakita ko tong insulation foam na dinidikit sa roof at butyl tape. Ano mas effective kaya sa 2? And kung tatagal ba? Please share your experience if meron kayo nito would appreciate it

knowing NBCP, how would you as an architect maximize a row house upgrade for a "big" family

let's talk about theory

what if i have a small plot of land with a slim facade (talking about 3m-4.5m frontage) facing a ROW situated in a row house? a once was nuclear family in metro manila unexpectedly has to accomodate more members in a family: a senior couple, their son's new partner with a child, and a nephew who has to live with them. the plot of land would likely be 45-80sqm in total land area. how would you deal with a possible carport, a motorcycle dock, and a bike rack? theoretically, how many floors and rooms can you fit?

im asking right now as i'm curious how this arrangement is often a reality for plenty of filipinos in working class communities.

Need advice from people knowledgeable in HVAC/building ventilation/apartment living.

I currently live in an 18sqm apartment with a window-type AC (1 HP inverter) exhausting into a very narrow shared vertical shaft. It performs badly — at night when many tenants use their AC, the shaft gets extremely hot (>40°C), my AC becomes loud, and even at a 28°C setting it still consumes around 700–900W constantly (even after reaching 28C). According to my smart plug, my AC alone consumes 10 pesos per hour. I can physically feel the heat from my window, so I suspect poor heat rejection due to narrow shaft design.

I’m considering moving to a new apartment in another building. It also uses a vertical shaft for window AC exhaust, but:
- the shaft is visibly much larger,
- each floor has 2 apartment units sharing one shaft,
- there are laundry areas beside the shaft separated by grills,
- the shaft goes up 5 floors and ends in a chimney-like roof cap,
- available units are on the 2nd and 5th floors.

Questions:

  1. Is this new setup likely to perform significantly better than my current one?
  2. Will my inverter actually be able to breathe and save electricity here?
  3. Which floor would you choose for better AC efficiency: 2nd or 5th?
  4. Is a chimney-capped shared shaft generally okay for window-type ACs, or should I avoid this building too?

Trying to avoid making the same mistake twice. Most of the apartments I visited have the same layout. Any insights are appreciated!

Hiding solar panel cable from roof

Any architects who have encountered projects with solar panels? how are you able to hide this eyesore in your house design. What do you thinks is the solution for the cable not needed to go through the gutter?

I need some advise on applying indoor paint

I have a room na gusto ko na ipa pintura and nag check online mga products na pwede gamitin. I need some advise lang po if maganda po ba itong mga napili ko and long lasting? As well as yung sequence ng pag apply nila sa pader.

Note: yung pader po namin sa loob is makinis na never pa napinturahan. And yung pader sa labas is hindi mapinturahan ng pang positive water proofing.

1st layer: buildrite flexor - 2 layers application

2nd layer: bostik fino skimcoat - application depend on smoothness we want to achieve

3rd layer: Davies concrete primer sealer

4th layer: Davies sun and rain elastomeric waterproofing paint

Usual time for Interior Design 3D Rendering

Hello, I'd like to ask lang here since I don't see any ID Subreddit. I'm a Junior ID with 2 years of experience and I recently started a new job.

For my previous job, siguro mga 3-4 projects lang ako nagrender. Gusto ko lang mag ask if how long it takes for one to model and render 1 room? Without any concise and detailed design inspo yet, just floor plan and mood board? Tapos complete na 4 view renders with proper lighting, specific furniture na sometimes mahirap hanapin sa 3d warehouse and accesories.

I am thinking kase na maybe I am too slow and have to improve kase I adapted the speed from my previous job, which I think aligns naman with my seniors there. Kaso kase sa new job ko, parang bagal na bagal sila sakin hehe.

3D render

My boss expected me to finish 3D and renders of 1 room and 2 toilets (male and female) with 4 cubicles + the surroundings that were seen in actual image also needed to reflect in render, all for 10 hours. Is it normal?

I'm just starting my apprenticeship and I'm not that skilled in making 3D models. I really want to improve but I'm not in school anymore where someone is willing to teach software, I'm on my own now. What are your daily routines to be fast and productive using sketchup and enscape?

Hello, my brother is really having a hard time finding a job after graduation. He’s a pandemic graduate so 2024 lang sya naka graduate. Until now, wala pa din sya work and it’s really depressing him. Any advises na dapat nya gawin? Puro pagaayos and pag add lang kasi ng portfolio ginagawa nya since graduation.

Is there any available internship/part-time or full time slot sa inyo na pwede sya?

We are located nga pala sa Makati/Taguig area and he graduated Architecture at NU Manila.

Is it normal not being able to juggle multiple projects at the same time?

Hi! I’ve been in this company for almost a year and a half now and we recently get a lot of projects. For context, my main job role in my company is to design and estimate. And as a sole architect apprentice, I am the only who’s doing most of the 3ds, renders, and estimates. My mentor would help me sometimes but he would assign himself with minor tasks like doing the 3d and render of the most basic room from a project. I would also be in charge to purchase materials from suppliers and do permits for approval (all of these are done at the office btw). But sometimes due to deadlines and sudden requests, I would usually commit mistakes. Now, my question is whether that is normal for firms to assign u to multiple projects with multiple job roles and minimal guidance. Or am I not competitive enough to be in this profession.

For more context: i handle 3 projects from scratch (which means i do the 3d, render, and quotation for client approval and bidding) and we also have 2 on going construction projects where i handle most of the permits and material purchasing for office and residential renovation. I sometimes attend meetings and site visit which adds more design delays on my end but is manageable. So given those circumstances, do you think that I have too many things on my plate than other regular apprentices or is it normal? Is it justifiable that I still commit mistakes given the year I worked with them or am I being exploited? Help.

high ceiling sa bagyuhin na place

hello! planning na kami sa own house namin sa province. we’re from bicol, and prone talaga sya sa baha and malalakas na bagyo. my parents wanted na mag high ceiling since ayun nga daw yung uso ngayon. ang problem is ayun nga yung place na pag tatayuan namin, then fear na baka magkabasagan ng salamin pag bumagyo.

worth it po bang mag high ceiling considering the location? thank you.

Pwede ba palitan yung regular ceiling light bulbs / sockets ng Pendant / Hanging Lights with no damage?

Pwede or madali lang ba palitan yung regular ceiling light bulbs / sockets ng Pendant / Hanging Lights?

I'm renting an apartment and as usual, yung ceiling light is yung typical na light bulb lang. Gusto ko sana palitan ng aesthetic na pendant or hanging light.

Madali lang ba ikabit yun ng hindi ma-damage yung existing socket? Sabi kasi ng caretaker pwede naman daw palitan basta papaalam sa landlord.

TIA.
