Semblance Anvil and Lady Octopus

My friend is using [[Lady Octopus, Inspired Inventor]] with an artifact creature imprinted on [[Semblance Anvil]].

The lady octopus has 3 counters on her and he is claiming that he is allowed to cheat in a 5 cost artifact.

As I understand this the cost reduction from the anvil does not actually lower the cmc which is what lady octopus’ counter actually keep track of.

Can anyone help prove I’m correct or tell me how wrong I am?

Rebound trigger question.

If an opponent cast the spell from my hand does the rebound trigger? If it does do I get the recast on my upkeep or do they get it in theirs?

I have Lore hold the historian on the stack, I then draw for turn and I draw for miracle Lindblum, Industrial Regency. Can I cast the adventure spell or is it a land?

God-eternal bontu, hearthull, path to exile

Opponent plays bontu with hearthull out, intending to push for the win by sacrificing all of their lands. I respond to bontu's etb trigger being put on the stack by pathing hearthull. Does opponent get to determine the amount of lands to sacrifice as bontu's etb resolves or when it is put on the stack? Thanks!

„This token“ on a non-token

Hi, let‘s say I make a token from [[Mole Man, Moloid Master]]. Then, I have another non-token creature of mine become a copy of the token and attack with it. Does it trigger even though the copy is not a token and has the ability „whenever this token attacks“? Or is „this token“ just a reference to itself and it also works if I make a non-token copy?

Doran, Besieged by Time question.

Let’s say I have Doran out and my opponent gives it two -1-1 counters (blight)

When applying his attack/defense buff, would it be applied as difference between-2/3 or 0/3 ?

Can a creature have negative power ?

Trigger with skullclamp

Can't post pictures ? 🫪

Hello everyone i got a question about this situation

I got on board "the duke, rebel sentry" with a skullclamp attached.

I'd like to do his capacity but he died instantly because of the skullclamp so the capacity does not resolve because i pay the cost wich is removing a +1/+1 and he die so nothing is happening (except drawing 2 cards with the skull)

Am i right ? Thanks

Hinata, Dawn-Crowned and Hideous Task Master

With Hinata on the battlefield, does hideous task master get a 3 generic mana discount or does it get 0 discount when targeting 3 different creatures.

My opinion is that it gets no discount because it's not the spell that is targeting 3 creatures, rather it is the triggered ability.

Can you tell me if or why I am wrong?

Oracle texts below for quick reference.

> [[Hinata Dawn-Crowned]]

Flying, trample

Spells you cast cost {1} less to cast for each target.

Spells your opponents cast cost {1} more to cast for each target.

> [[Hideous Task Master]]

Devoid (This card has no color.)

When you cast this spell, for each opponent, gain control of up to one target creature that player controls until end of turn. Untap those creatures. They gain trample, haste, and annihilator 1 until end of turn.

Trample, haste, annihilator 1 (Whenever this creature attacks, defending player sacrifices a permanent of their choice.)

What is storm count for a storm spell that was cast as part of the resolution of Villainous Wealth?

Here’s the situation: my friend casts [[Villainous Wealth]] targeting me for X=8 (note that this was the FIRST spell he cast in the turn). He flips 5 spells total, with the final being [[Empty the warrens]], and chooses to cast all of them. He chooses to have the Empty the Warrens go on the stack last, hoping to maximize Storm.

Here’s the question: Is the storm count for Warrens 1 or 5? Hypothetically, if all spells being cast as part of the resolution of VW are being cast simultaneously, the only spell cast “before” warrens is VW, regardless of resolution order? Or does Storm count somehow go up with each spell selected in order?

Would love a reference to the specific rule(s) in the comprehensive rules that contains the answer, as this was a bit of a debate at the table.

Sheoldred, peer into the abyss and removal

Hi, I still have a doubt about how peer in to the abyss works with sheoldred.

If my opponent has peer on the stack and I remove Sheoldred before peer resolves, I still get the damage from Sheoldred?

Doublers with Energy/Loyalty Counters

Hey all,

I'm in the midst of building a [[Doc Samson, Super Psychiatrist]] planeswalker deck when I read something that said [[Doubling season]] doesn't work on loyalty abilities. Would [[Pir, Imaginative Rascal]] also not work for this? They're all worded a little differently so I don't know if that means some things would apply and some wouldn't.

I do know that they do affect when Planeswalkers enter.

Additionally, do any of those three affect Energy Counters? I know players aren't a permanent so likely not the case.

Echoing assault and burrowguard mentor and cards like it

So if I have an [[echoing assault]] out on the field and go to combat making a copy of [[burrowguard mentor]] will that token either be

A. A 1/1 copy of burrowguard with no other power or toughness changes.

Or B. A version of burrowguard that starts as a 1/1 but then it's power and toughness changes to equal out to the number of creatures I control.

Mrs. Marvel and Tracking Power

I'm looking at [[Mrs. Marvel, Kamala Khan]], and I'm just getting questions here to confirm I'm not planning my build wrong.

  1. Does her last ability count as a characteristic-defining ability? My assumption is yes, and as long as the number of cards in my hand keeps changing during the turn, her power would change as well.
  2. Suppose I cast a spell that sets Kamala's power to a certain number, like [[Water Wings]], followed by a second spell that doesn't change Mrs. Marvel's power, like [[Sea-Dasher Octopus]], what would her base power be? My assumption is that her first trigger would set her power to my hand size, then she will become a 4/4. After that, her ability triggers again to the Sea-Dasher, but since the effect of Water Wings sets her power on a later layer to the characteristic-defining ability, she'd remain a 4/4, and whether the Dasher goes on top or at the bottom doesn't change anything on that same turn besides mana value and types.

[[Magar of the Magic Strings]] and [[Ares, God of War]]

My understanding is that if I note the name of an instant or sorcery and put it face down onto my field as a 3/3 creature, and it dies while attacking, then Ares. God of war will return that instant or sorcery card to my hand, since when it died it was an attacking creature?

Or is there something im not seeing that makes my understanding incorrect?

I wouldn't be too surprised if there was some ruling about it not being a creature in the graveyard so it doesn't work ect ect.

Imprisoned in the Moon and Earthbending on Bumi, Unleashed.

Let's say that I cast Imprisoned in the Moon, targeting my Bumi, Unleashed and making it into a land. I then earthbend him with Toph, Hardheaded Teacher and turn him into a Earthbent land. I then remove Imprisoned from the Moon off of Bumi.

Is he still a land? And if I deal combat damage with him, is that an avenue for infinite combats?

I know its roundabout and Ashaya would make it less headache-y, but I had a debate with a former judge and even when I pulled up Wizard's information on earthbending and how it specifically turns the land into a land creature, they insist it loses the land type when imprisoned in the moon is removed, while I insist its still a land even when imprisoned in the moon is removed.

If I'm wrong, can you please explain what I'm getting tripped up by? If I'm right, how would I be able to explain this in a way that is whole and convincing?
