Kambal, PM & Ocelot Pride

Hello all!

Scenario is this: I control [[Kambal, Profiteering Mayor]] and [[Ocelot Pride]]. I have the city's blessing, and I have gained life this turn. At the end step, after Ocelot Pride's end step trigger has resolved, how many triggers of Kambal's lifedrain ability should go on the stack?

Thanks in advance.

Unbound flourishing and silver scrutiny

silver scrutiny can be cast as an instant if X is less than or equal to 3.
Can i cast it with X=3 if i have unbound flourishing in play?
Or does it change X to 6, ence making the action illegal?

Sahir, Visitor in Darkness and paying life as a cost

Hello all,

Quick question about the new [[Sahir, Visitor in Darkness]]: Does paying 1 life as a cost for an activated ability trigger his second ability? For example, for [[Blood Celebrant]] 's ability, or [[Wall of Blood]] 's.

Part of me says no, since it's the cost that is causing me to lose life and not the ability. On the other hand, I get that the whole activated ability might is considered the ability, and it's causing you to lose life by paying for its cost, but that somehow doesn't sit right with me.

EDHREC seems to err on the side of "yes" though, making me more confused.

Thanks in advance!

When does an equipment leave the equipped creature when reequipping somewhere else?

I have creature A with [[Demonmail Hauberk]] attached. I then attach the equipment to another creature B, paying the equip cost by sacrificing creature A. As the equipment is not yet reattached creature A dies with buffed power and toughness right?

Basically what it says on the tin; does Vexilus Praetor block the effects of Background enchantments from applying to your commander creature(s)?

Rionya + Desert Were-Worm

Building a deck around Rionya doing extra combats through schenanigans involving copying creatures that cause additional combats on attack.

My question is in regards to [[Desert Were-Worm]]'s wording of "Whenever you attack with creatures with total power 12 or greater for the FIRST time each turn, untap all attacking creatures. After this phase, there is an additional combat phase."

Does [[Desert Were-Worm]] only consider the first combat phase since [[Desert Were-Worm]] entered for its ability or would it not synergize properly because it considers ALL combats even before it enters in a similar manner to cards that specify "Second card drawn" or "Second spell cast" like [[Alisaie Leveilleur]] or [[Atlantean Cavalry]]

Screaming Nemesis and Cuombajj Witches

If both you and an opponent target Screaming Nemesis, does the activated ability of Cuombajj Witches trigger it once (one 2-damage hit) or twice (two 1-damage hits)?

Maha and Ashaya layers question:

Like many players, I'm a bit confused by layers. So, I'm trying to figure out how Maha, it's Feathers Night would affect something like Ashaya, Soul of the Wilds?

If I controlled Maha and an opponent controlled Ashaya along with 5 lands, would Ashaya's toughness be 1 or 6?

Please explain how this works.

Thank you in advance.

Can prepared Spells become plotted?

What happen if my opponent has a prepared [[Vastlands Scavenger]] on the board and chooses to cast "it's" spelle Bind the life and I flash in a [[Aven Interrupter]] choosing 'Bind to Life' as a target for its plotting ability?

Does the spell become plotted but ceases to exist (just like a token that's brought back to hand) or can it be played for 0 again and it's plotted like a normal spell?

Is the Vastelands scavenger plotted afterwards?

Thanks in advance :)

Wedding ring + notion thief + secret randevouz

Q: how does this resolve to?

I think I miss some knowledge about when an event qualifies as trigger.

Let's call A the owner of notion thief and secret randevouz, B the other player.

Here's my breakdown:

Randevouz resolves: both has to draw 3.

Notion thief replacement applies: A draws 6, B draws none.

Wedding ring triggers for each draw, ence B has to draw 6 (1 by 1).

First wedding ring triggers resolves, B has to draw 1 of 6.

Notion thief replacement applies: A draws 1 instead.

Wedding ring triggers again, B still has 6 pending draws.

Result: stack will always have 6 unresolved triggers, A will draw its deck to exhaustion and lose.

True?

EDITED: breakdown was wrong before Yaksha's answer.

Sapazzan Skerry and Orvar

Hey! I know that you cast a spell and put it on the stack first before you pay any costs, which leads me to believe that if you were to cast an instant or sorcery targeting Sapazzan Skerry with orvar on the field, you'd be able to have the orvar trigger on the stack and copy the Skerry prior to tapping it, and thus copying it prior to having to sacrifice it. However, I'm not entirely certain that'll work, so I just want to check. Thanks!

Vincent, Vengeful Atoner | does his first ability trigger once per player?

I'm looking for a rules clarification regarding Vincent, Vengeful Atoner and his first ability:

"Whenever one or more creatures you control deal combat damage to a player, put a +1/+1 counter on Vincent."

I had a situation in a Commander game where I controlled Vincent and another creature. I attacked two different opponents, with Vincent attacking player A and my other creature attacking player B. Both creatures dealt combat damage.

My interpretation was that Vincent's ability would trigger twice, resulting in two +1/+1 counters, because combat damage was dealt to two different players.

However, the table disagreed and argued that the "one or more creatures you control deal combat damage to a player" wording means the ability only triggers once during that combat damage step, regardless of how many players were dealt damage.

I couldn't find a ruling that specifically addressed this situation, so I went with the table ruling and put only one counter on Vincent. This ended up having a pretty significant impact on the game, so I'd like to make sure I understand the interaction correctly.

Which is correct?

  1. Vincent gets two +1/+1 counters, because creatures I control dealt combat damage to two different players; or
  2. Vincent gets one +1/+1 counter, because all the combat damage happened during the same combat damage step.

Thanks in advance for the clarification!

Blocking creature loses creature permanent type

I can't find an example that makes this possible but I'm sure some combo exists that could do it. (To be fair, I didn't look very hard because I don't have a lot of time)

If a creature is declared blocking another creature, and an ability or effect is applied at instant speed to cause the blocking creature to lose the permanent type Creature (example: if [[Vraska, Betrayal's Sting]]'s minus 2 ability could be activated at instant speed), what happens?

Does the now not-a-creature still take damage? While damage can't really destroy something that isn't a creature, would deathtouch still take effect? How would this interact with an attacking creature with trample?

Amass and double parallel

if i have Doubling season and Parallel lives on the board then i cast Orcish Bowmasters,

  1. getting 4 1/1 armies? or one 4/4?
  2. 1 1/1 and 3 0/0 that die instantly?
  3. four 0/0 tokens and one of them gets 2 +1/+1 counters
  4. some third option i can't even fathom cause i don't understand the stack after 8 years of playing mtg?

2 Marvel Legends in Questions

Shuri, Wakandan Inventor and Arcum's Astrolabe. I am sure this has been answered but, I don't trust google's Ai return for magic rules.

  1. Does Astrolabe become free to cast? I am aware it has the snow symbol on it so I would doubt that this works but, I just want clarity on that since, like Colorless mana symbols I was made aware it's likely that this doesn't work.

  2. When turning an artifact into a non-legendary version of the card, does that mean that creating copies of that now non-legendary card that has become that don't have the legend rule tied to it? (clone rulings make me sad sometimes)

Echo, Perceptive Prodigy and cast triggers. Like if I cast Ulamog, The Ceaseless Hunger could I copy it's cast trigger?

When they typed out, I wasn't sure if a creature on the stack is a creature source or not but, I would assume it is?

When referencing a creature source is it also safe to assume that a creature source is a card that has creature or a permanent with the creature super type or what? Let's say for the sake of argument that I have a vehicle and it becomes crewed and it has an ability that Echo theoretically could interact with will that work?

Thank you for your help!

Maular + command tower

What is maular, the evolution's color identity if you're using it as a commander & following its rulebreaker "rule" in the context of command tower? Is it just green or all the colors?

Turning Planeswalkers into Lands so they aren’t interacted with!

I’ve had this idea for a bit now rolling around in my head and I found something that I believe works but I want to get others involved if there’s a better idea. As of now it’s a 4 card process involving a planeswalker of your choosing, Princess Yue, an Applied Geometry effect, and a glass pool mimic effect. If you’re unfamiliar with any of the cards in the combo it essentially copies your planeswalker to become a creature using applied geometry (or an effect like it) and while having Princess Yue out using the Glasspool mimic (again, or an effect like it) to copy princess Yue to sacrifice the copy to the legend rule and because of some layer shenanigans the effects of the planeswalker creature hybrid stay on the land.
Any advice or comments?

Do you feel valued and fairly compensated in the current era?

Not sure if this counts but I'm asking judges. I was wondering if it'd be worth going getting qualification with JudgeFoundry but I've heard it's become pointless since DCI/Official judges have been dropped. I haven't judged a formal event since kaladesh but still up-to-date on the rules. Thanks for the advice/answers If I get any.
