Fifa World Cup Finals Watch Parties, July 19th?

We want to watch the world cup final as a group with good vibes and a crowd. The PNE amphitheatre is sold out on July 19th

Where are other options with a good screen view (and big enough screen)? I'm willing to come early to save a good spot

How to verify future tenants in BC Canada?

Hi everyone, we purchased our first ever home here in the city. It does have a 1 bedroom walkout basement suite with separate entrance from the backyard. The rental suite is currently vacant, but we are planning to rent it out in upcoming months.

But we have zero experience about being landlords. And we are originally from an Asian country so we aren't experts in bylaws or legality of rental in BC Canada. So if anyone can guide us here, that'll be really helpful. Here are our questions,

  1. Do we need to register somewhere as "landlord" in any tenants associations or something?

  2. Once we find a tenant, do we need to get in touch with any lawyer for a rental agreement? Or any other process for setting up a proper rental agreement?

  3. Are there any websites where we can do credit checks for future tenants for a fee?

  4. What is the procedure for getting Police verification done for tenants (of course with their consent) to make sure they're legit.

  5. Do we need to inform local police stations about who is renting in our basement suite (we have a law in our birth country for this)?

And finally, any other suggestions or recommendations for verifying our future tenants before we sign any agreement with them.

Thank you in advance and please feel free to DM if you have any other advice for us.

Plants on City Boulevard?

The City boulevard in front of my house has been devastated by Chafer Beetles. I would like to cut a few squares in the boulevard and plant something and make everything look better. Any thoughts on what would grow well? How about lavender?

Why does no one on my morning bus say thank you when getting off? Am I the only one from here?

morning work commute bus to 9-5 that goes to Chinatown skytrain, I am actually the only person who says ‘thank you‘ when getting off. Every weekday morning, without fail. it is so weird. how can you get off the bus and not say thank you?

Kitsilano vs Strathcona / Grandview Woodland?

We are an immigrant couple living in a condo in Olympic Village and looking to move into a house. We love our current location due to the transit access, walkability, and bikability. We'd love to stay here but unfortunately there are no houses in this neighborhood.

We often spend lots of time in either Kitsilano or Commercial St and really like those areas. However a house in Kitsilano will really stretch out budget and be in much worse condition than one in Grandview Woodland and Strathcona.

Our only concern is the school catchments. We don't have kids yet but expect this to be our forever home. We've been reading online that Britannia, Van Tech, and Templeton are not as good as Kitsilano due to crimes, bullying, and ethnic gangs!?. Our friends who grew up in these neighborhoods also confirm these and those who went to Kitsilano loved it. Those we know who were living in the East also move the West after they have a kid. We are visible minorities ourselves so this is really important to us. Are these problems still the case nowadays?

Is there anything else we should be aware of about either of these neighborhoods?

Is it worth getting a worse deal in the West for the better schools or are the issues in the East greatly exaggerated?

How is the city vibe of the World Cup in Vancouver?

Vancouver has always been one of my favorite cities in North America.

In 12 days since WC, we’ve seen Scottish bagpipes 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 take over Boston, the Dutch 🇳🇱 march through Houston humid sprawl, Brazil 🇧🇷 storm through Times Squsre, Japan 🇯🇵 throwing DFW block parties and eating Texas BBQ, Argentina 🇦🇷 taking over KC, German 🇩🇪 saxophone raves, Norsk 🇳🇴 viking rows, a Cinderella feel good team in 🇨🇻 etc.

How’s the city vibe there? I really to experience the World Cup in Vancouver

schooling didn't work out, I'm in a bit of a tight spot, what are my options?

23F, Currently living with parents (but their patience are wearing thin and I likely have to 'move out' in Fall)

Graduated highschool in 2022, Gone to technical college right after HS, picked "supply chain" as my program (BCIT). ~4 years later (now) Likely would fail/abandon the program due to my repeated failure in the "Statistics" course, which means I'll have no degree/certificate to my name. So I'd likely have to pivot for a short diploma/trade which wouldn't have much (higher) math, as well as being hands-on (which I found I am good at)

I missed my mark to get a job (2021-22), so I've spent ~4 years unemployed because of school. Very little/old volunteer experience, and I have 2 certificates (FoodSafe1, Forklift).

Savings are dire, but I have ~$13k-ish locked in my GIC (spread gift due to parents, set to unlock next year March). I have no investments, no debt.

Realistically, Is it even possible for me to get a job in this market and economy? What on earth could I even get, and who will hire me at all (since I assume I'd get auto-rejected due to ATS requiring a degree of some sort).

I don't have much connections/friends I can call up. Military was one of my options but I need to up my fitness (if I were to apply)

Dog boarding options?

Hello-

We will be new Vancouver residents next month. Amongst many other things we need to sort out, we need to find boarding for our 2 big dogs for when we travel. A doggy daycare type situation won’t work. One dog is pretty reactive to other dogs, especially in large groups. He either needs solo playtime out of his kennel or with just a small group. I’d love your suggestions!
