Summary:

Rhaenyra and Daemon Targaryen are torn from the Dance of the Dragons and dropped into the yard of Winterfell on the morning Robb Stark calls the banners. Two living dragons. A North marching to war. And a Long Night that neither side fully understands yet.

Chapter One

Robb Stark stood in the yard of Winterfell with the wind cutting at his face and the weight of the North on his shoulders.

The host was nearly ready. Fifteen thousand men, give or take. Banners snapped in the cold air—direwolf, sunburst, flayed man, giant, and a dozen more. The smell of horses and oiled leather and men who had not slept enough hung over everything. Grey Wind paced at his side, ears pricked, low growls rolling in his throat every few breaths. The wolf had been restless all morning.

Robb's hands rested on the pommel of his sword. He had already said the words. I am calling the banners. We march south. The lords had accepted it, some with fire in their eyes, some with quiet calculation. Greatjon Umber had roared loudest. Rickard Karstark had simply nodded once, face like carved stone. Roose Bolton had watched him with those pale eyes and said nothing at all.

His father was a prisoner in King's Landing. His sisters were hostages. The realm had crowned a boy who was no king, and the North would not bend.

Robb drew a slow breath and opened his mouth to give the final order to mount—

The sky tore open.

There was no sound at first. Only a pressure, like the air itself had been struck by a hammer. Then the light changed. Two vast shapes unfolded above the castle, blotting out the pale morning sun. Wings the size of longships beat once, twice, and the wind that followed nearly knocked men from their feet.

Grey Wind snarled and pressed against Robb's leg. Horses screamed. A dozen men dropped to their knees. Someone shouted the name of the old gods. Someone else began praying to the Seven in a voice that cracked.

Robb's first clear thought was that the stories had been true after all.

The nearer dragon was long and lean, scales the deep red of fresh blood, its body serpentine, its wings membrane stretched over bone. A rider sat the high saddle at its shoulders—silver-gold hair whipped by the wind, a sword at his hip that caught the light like Valyrian steel. The second dragon was broader, its hide a rich gold that seemed to drink the sunlight. Its rider's hair was silver-gold, long and unbound, and she sat her mount as if the sky itself belonged to her.

They circled once over the yard. The red dragon's scream split the air. Men covered their ears. The gold one answered with a deeper, rolling cry that vibrated in Robb's chest.

Then they began to descend.

Robb forced his voice to work. "Hold!" he shouted. "No arrows! Hold, damn you!"

The command carried. A few bows that had risen slowly lowered again. Greatjon Umber was already at Robb's shoulder, massive and red-faced, one hand on the hilt of his sword.

"Those are no birds, boy," the Greatjon growled.

"I know what they are."

The red dragon landed first, heavy as a falling tower, claws scoring deep furrows in the frozen earth of the yard. The gold followed a heartbeat later, more graceful, wings folding with a sound like heavy sails. Heat rolled off them in waves. The smell of sulfur and hot metal filled the air.

The silver-haired rider swung down first. He moved like a man who had never doubted that the ground would accept him. The silver-haired woman followed, slower, her eyes sweeping the host with the calm assessment of someone who had commanded armies.

Robb stepped forward. Grey Wind came with him, hackles raised, but the wolf did not charge. The dragons' riders watched the direwolf with open curiosity.

The man spoke first. His voice carried easily over the wind and the restless murmuring of fifteen thousand men.

"This is not King's Landing," he said. The words were accented, older somehow, the vowels shaped differently. "Nor is it Dragonstone."

The woman studied Robb's face, then the banners, then the castle itself. Something like recognition and confusion warred in her expression.

"Where are we?" she asked.

Robb Stark, Lord of Winterfell in his father's absence, looked up at two living dragons and the last Targaryens the world had known, and answered the only way he could.

"You stand in the North," he said. "Above Winterfell. And the man you see before you is marching south to war."

The red dragon shifted its weight, and the frozen ground cracked beneath its claws.

Somewhere in the host, a man began to laugh—high and thin and more than a little mad.

Robb did not look away from the woman with the silver-gold hair.

"I am Robb Stark," he said. "And I would know your names before those beasts decide whether we live or burn."

These are the worst Targaryen Kings and their crimes who do you think is the worst and why

Aenys I – He wasn't evil, but he was incredibly ineffective. His weak rule allowed the Faith Militant to seize control of King's Landing and nearly wipe out House Targaryen.

Maegor I – Without question one of the cruelest kings. He murdered some of his wives, killed his nephews, and was responsible for the deaths of thousands of smallfolk. While his brutal suppression of the Faith ultimately helped secure Targaryen rule for Jaehaerys, it came at an enormous human cost.

Viserys I – His indecisiveness paved the way for the Dance of the Dragons. If he truly wanted Rhaenyra to succeed him, he should never have remarried and produced more heirs. Alternatively, he could have publicly required the Greens to swear fealty to Rhaenyra, or he could have named Aegon his heir and had Rhaenyra publicly acknowledge him. There were countless opportunities to prevent the civil war, but he took none of them.

Aegon IV "the Unworthy" – His treatment of his sister-wife was appalling. Even after being warned that another pregnancy would likely kill her, he still forced the issue. His worst decision, however, was legitimizing all of his bastards on his deathbed, setting the stage for the Blackfyre Rebellions.

Aerys II "the Mad King" – Like Aegon the Unworthy, he was a terrible husband and brother. He abused his wife, Queen Rhaella, and infamously burned Rickard Stark and Brandon Stark alive. He also unjustly demanded the heads of Eddard Stark and Robert Baratheon, sparking Robert's Rebellion. There are also allegations that he may have sexually assaulted Joanna Lannister, though this remains unconfirmed in the lore.

A "Good son/daughter of Tywin" Stories?

I had this little idea I might use in the future about a good man or woman born of Tywin, maybe a middle daughter born a year before Tyrion, a non deformed twin brother of Tyrion, anything like that, and that extra child rejecting the cruel ways of Tywin.

Is there some good stories like that?

Cregan Stark SI Story

Title: The Passenger

Author: LordReader (myself)

Rating: General

Language: English

Length: 73k completed (out of ~80k)

Status: Ongoing (will be completed in next couple of weeks. The climax is over.)

Link: Ao3 | Spacebattles

Summary: The overall story is a self-insert into Cregan Stark, and the difficulties he faces when he tries to implement the uplift ideas. Including his usurping uncle from the canon.

But the chapter I linked can be read as a standalone short-story. It's a smallfolk pov during Cregan's rule. I believe this was the best chapter I ever wrote. So you can directly read it if you want a taste of my writing before committing to read the whole thing.

Jon characterisation in case of N+A=J

How Jon's status and personality would change in AU where Jon [supposedly] is son of Ned and Ashara and has a twin sister? Probably he is more proud, as he knows both his parents are highborn, and he and his sister are very protective of each other.

I specifically ask about alternative conversation with Tyrion. Would it go completely differently? I think Jon and his sister wouldn't be able to hear his advice, only an insult to their sibling.

What do you think about the version which I wrote?

***

Accompanied by the wolf cubs they crossed the deserted yard, climbed the steps to the tall doors of the great hall and suddenly noticed a person, sitting on the railing to the side of the entrance, in the shadow.

It was the Imp, an ugly dwarf, about four feet tall, with a large head of strange shape, with an especially bulging forehead, his hair was light mixed with black, and eyes of different colors — green, and black looked at them with interest.

— Good evening, my lord Lannister, are you tired of the feast? his sister greeted him politely.

— It is too hot there, too noisy, and I have already drunk too much wine, — the dwarf said. — I long ago understood that vomiting on one’s own brother is impolite. — do you know who I am?

— You are the queen’s brother. — Jon answered

— Yes, my greatest achievement, I should remind her of that more often. — he smirked sarcastically. You are Jon Snow, and this beautiful lady is your twin, you are Ned Stark’s bastards, are you not?

Jon flinched at the unexpected rudeness and felt a chill run through him. No one except Theon Greyjoy, and the king today, had called them that to their face. He clenched his teeth and frowned, and took Dyanna by the hand, saying nothing. She was silent as well.

— Did I offend you? — Lannister asked. — Forgive me, dwarfs are not required to observe tact. Generations of fools and jesters give me the right to dress badly and say whatever comes to mind. — He grinned. — But you are bastards.

— Lord Eddard Stark is our father, — Jon admitted stiffly. Lannister looked him in the face.

— But Lady Stark is not your mother.

— Our mother is lady Ashara Dayne! — his sister declared proudly.

— What a pity that your noble parents never married. — he continued mockingly — Allow me to give you some advice, bastards, — Lannister said. — Never forget what you are, for the world will certainly not forget. Make your origin your strength. Wear it like armor, and then no one will be able to hurt you.

Jon was in no mood for advice. He could have sent the Imp to the ground with one blow, as he would have done with Greyjoy, but unfortunately attacking a guest, especially one from the royal family, was unacceptable. Dyanna’s hand squeezed his in comfort.

— Are these animals called wolves? — as if nothing had happened the dwarf continued, as though he had not just insulted them.

— Direwolves.

The gray and white pups came closer, Ghost nudged Jon’s free hand with his nose, watching Tyrion Lannister carefully with a cautious eye.

— May I pet them? — the dwarf asked and already reached out his hand to Star, but quickly pulled it back when she bared her fangs with a growl.

— You should not, if we were not here, they would tear off your hand and rip out your throat — Jon said. For now things were not quite like that, but everything was still ahead ...

— If you want to pet someone, my lord, — then there is a kennel in the castle — Dyanna said.

— And there you may also give your advice to the dogs — Jon concluded.

No longer paying attention to their rude guest, he turned away, pushed the door open and pulled his sister into the hall, toward the light, music and delicious smells.

— Be carefull, I might find the conversation there far more stimulating — the dwarf kept mocking as they walked away — the dogs are not so easily offended, especially by the simple truth.

— Father is absolutely right not to like the Lannisters, — Jon said.

Dyanna nodded and hummed in agreement.

— But we must not let such people spoil our evening, — she replied, though she did not sound as carefree as she wanted to seem, and her hand trembled slightly and was cold.

Jon hoped that the rest of the feast would fix that.

Do reactions feel valid? Do Tyrion and Jon feel in character? Who is to blame for the falling out? Does it work as a foreshadowong for future rivalry in the wot5k?

It was Robert's attitude that pushed Ned to speak to Cersei...

In as much as we speak of honour being the main factor that motivated Ned to tell Cersei about the incest, we often forget that it is Robert's attitude that pushed Ned to do so. Ned never forgot how Robert gloated about the murder of Elia and her kids. That is something that stayed with him for all the years. That event broke something between them; something that not even the death of Lyanna could patch up. And in the first book we see Ned discovering that the old friend that he once knew was gone and the king he swore his oath to is a monster; remember that they had just quarrelled about the question of killing Daenerys and Viserys.

The truth is Ned could no longer trust Robert to not act like a monster. He saw how Robert transformed what was a righteous rebellion against a tyrant into a horror of infanticide and femicide. You see him in real time processing whether to tell Robert directly or not before concluding that Robert is a child killer who will murder those babies. It is not until Robert is at death's door that he regrets his mistakes and the fact that he never listened to Ned when he was supposed to.

In conclusion, it is easy to shit on Ned but if you were in his shoes and saw your friend turn from a jovial guy into a child murdering monster the right thing as per you will be to shield anyone you can from his wrath. I know I would have done the same. Perhaps Ned was too pure for such an evil world but that's what makes GRRM's writing so delicious 😋!

Jaime standing up for Tyrion [Spoilers]

I have always wondered how it would have gone if it was actually Jaime who stood up for Tyrion in the trial by combat instead of Oberyn. Of course, Oberyn fighting the mountain was much better as far as the story is considered.

However, if it had been Jaime, how would it have turned out? Neither Tywin nor Cersei would want Jaime to die. From what I know, its certain that he will come out of it alive and I am sure Jaime will fight till death or victory. I am not a book reader and I am not sure whether there is a more credible reason for Jaime not standing up in the books.

In the show, the reason they have given is just that he is terrible with his left hand. But I think Jaime merely standing up for Tyrion would have saved him.

What do you guys think? Is there something I am missing?

Professional Wrestling in Westeros

Hey everyone,

So this might be a bit off topic and if this is not the type of post to make here I apologize

I am a huge pro wrestling fan, as well as a worker and promoter in my local area, and I’ve always toyed around with the idea of what professional wrestling would be like in the world of ASOIAF. We know of some historical examples of wrestling in the world, both canon and semi canon

So would their be interest in a series of sorts talking about lore/cannon and even maybe fantasy bookings and match guides or even maybe clips (if I could figure out a way to do it) from these types of shows

Down below let me know what ya think! Thanks for reading

Rhaegar and Lyanna makes no sense

The whole relationship doesn’t make any sense to me, especially with how they were described. Like you fully expect me to believe that Lyanna a 14 or 15 year old girl who was very adamant on not wanting to marry robert just decides to run off and marry rhaegar the crown prince who already has a wife and kids and just be locked up in a tower to have a baby?

all while her father and her brother were killed?

History wont be kind to the Lannisters at the end of the story.

By the time the story ends, the Lannisters won't be remembered fondly. It doesn't matter if some of them survive or not, they wont be able to recover the power they once had and pretty much will be a pariah forever associated with child murder, treachery and some of the vilest traits that a house may possess. The Mad King will be better remembered than Tywin.

What if Joffrey lived long enough to get Margery pregnant

The key here is Sansa and the poison she's carrying in her hairnet. She's told by Ser Dontos that it will bring her justice and vengeance for her father, but he tells her this while he's drunk, and it doesn't really make much sense to her. So, in this scenario, she simply doesn't bring it because, quite frankly, it wouldn't be hard for her to believe that he's crazy.

As a result, there's no poison, the plan is off, and, unfortunately for Margaery, Joffrey lives long enough to consummate the marriage.

I still think Joffrey would die—just at a different event. In the show, Cersei manages to convince Tywin not to marry her off, but that's not what happens in the books. Whether she's married to Willas Tyrell or someone else, Cersei is eventually going to have a wedding, and I think that's when Joffrey will die.

By that point, however, Margaery will be pregnant.

What would this change? Would we simply see a repeat of what we already know? Tyrion has a sham trial, Sansa escapes to the Vale, Oberyn dies, and Tyrion flees to Essos after killing Tywin.

I'm also going to assume the child is a boy because, historically, women haven't been allowed to rule Westeros. I think he would be named Robert to continue the belief—and the lie—that Joffrey was actually Robert's son.

But what do you think would happen.

I got a idea for a oc that’s set in old Valyria 1000 years before asoiaf here are his dragons

The first arkion the thunder bringer a blue and black dragon with blue flames and 5 black horns on his head like a crown and is 300 feet long with a slander build and is fast for its size reaching 120 mph with a diving speed of 250mph and is known for his hit and run tactics and is and is a neutral dragon and is protective of the rider and the ones he’s close to

The second Swampfyre the ship breaker a dark green and black dragon with gold spots across its body looking like coins and is half sea dragon giving him better swimming abilities and is 290 feet long with a slander build and has dark green flames and is also neutral and introverted and usually gets sent in to battle first hidden below ships and surprise attack them bursting from the ocean

The third ashfell the red brute a red and yellow dragon with a bulky build and is the tank of the 7 with orange flames and is 285 feet long and is more aggressive and can hold a grudge for a while

The fourth saerse or Circe in English the blinding amethyst a purple and blue she dragon with scales so beautiful and shiny there almost blinding and purple flames at 280 feet long she is the nicest of the 7 often letting children pet her and has a relationship with arkion but she will fight if needed

The fifth shadowind the night assassin a black and grey she dragon with black and grey flames and is the runt of the litter being 275 feet long and doesn’t need to sleep as much as other dragons only sleeping a 3 hours a day and is the most stealthy hiding in the night sky and can burn anyone and anything and fly away with out anyone noticing

And then the twins dragons solerion the wealthy a gold and silver she dragon with gold flame and is 260 feet long and is nice compared to others and likes to be praised for doing good work wanting pets or food and will nudge people wanting her reward and was used to forge a crown of gold after a rebellion

And than scorshfyre the skull taker a charcoal grey and orange dragon and is 260 feet long known for being stubborn only listening to a few people and was used to make a throne of skulls after a rebellion

and the first 5 dragons are 102 years old hatched by Aerion dragonkin who hatched and raised the 7 of them and they see him as a parent and he rides arkion and he uses them like Daenerys and they were from the same clutch of eggs while solerion and scorshfyre are 101 years old

What if Arya had Jaqen kill The Mountain or Tywin?

What would have happened? Would the war have just collapsed? You have to think if Tywin was killed and Jamie was still captured who would lead their armies? And as for The Mountain a certain Dawnish man would still be alive and that would have changed some of the alliances maybe.
