Not quite building tip: Building in units of 1.6 or 2.4, not 2

I'm not pretending to be a great ship designer, I'm really not. But I do think this might work wonders for some of you who are looking more into the building aspect of this game.

Avorion's default scale and grid sizes are set to 0.25. This is fine if you're mostly building crafts with 2+m blocks, but you lose a lot of flexibility when it comes to greebling or making ships with wonky geometry, simply because 10 doesn't divide into smaller integers all that well. If you mainly go for builds that involve a lot of halving, using 1.6 as your base unit is great because you can halve your blocks 5 times (1.6 -> 0.8 -> 0.4 -> 0.2 -> 0.1 -> 0.05) before you hit the decimal place limit. If you use a lot of halves and thirds, you can build in 2.4 with 0.15 increments or 0.2 increments to get a ton of different block sizes.

Red: 2-tall blocks at 0.25 intervals, blue: 2.4-tall blocks at 0.15 and 0.2 intervals each

This works well for breaking up surfaces too, as you have more options in cutting up a 1.2m wide surface as opposed to a 1m surface into neat proportions. One downside is that scaling up builds might be a bit trickier (2.4 -> 4.8 -> 9.6 -> 19.2 instead of 2 -> 4 -> 8 -> 16) but this is an inconvenience I'm willing to take, if this isn't your cup of tea totally understandable.

Raiding factions

Hi

Many of you choose to make money by declaring a war to a faction and then raiding them for high tech loot. As far as I know good target Is blue/green resource zone. How can I tell if im able to take this faction on? I have a ship with 21-27 armed turret slots, 60k shields and around 40k hull. Firepower sits at around 1.6-1.9k

Edit. Also how much cargo space should I have for that? I've got around 4-5k right now

I have captains, but don't have Operation/mission order buttons, why?

I don't have much of new mods that could conflict with map. Also i can't zoom more, is this normal? Last time i've played i think i could zoom more on the map.

Mirounga Class Sloops - Complete Collection

It took a little over a week to chip away at it, but the Mirounga Class Starter Ships (T1 & T2) are now all uploaded to the Workshop.

The idea behind this was to have an inexpensive base model T1 Ship to start with (Model 00 Helmsman), and a series of small but tough and economical T2 Ships built on that hull - one for every Captain type in the game (Model 01 to 09), just something easy and affordable to transition to once you acquired any Captain.

For anyone that would like to check it out, or mb use one of the ships - the collection is here.

There are also some supplementary items (linked in the Steam description) which includes the turrets, the fighters (from the static decorations on Model 05), and one art piece (Model 00 landed, with its wings folded up).

Hope you guys like it, and plz let me know if you see any errors or omissions in the Workshop.

My take on some Star Trek ships

They are all meant to be practical/usable, so... A: they are not using an excessive shitload of very small blocks for smoothing and B: progress nicely from the starting sector to the barrier.

I was today years old when I learned this technique

Basically put a corner block (or whatever piece that doesn't overlap too much) onto your desired location and transform it into the intended block. How have I not noticed this until now

Question about multipliers to weapons

I was going to use the weapon on the left until I saw the "+48% damage" multiplier at the bottom. Does this just randomly appear on the weapons you either create, roll or come across? Also, do they stack on top of the 6719 and 6491 DPS numbers or are the DPS stats already representing the added DPS?

Which stations for endgame center colony?

Endgame so assume we don't care about money very much.

Which stations should i build and which npc stations should i look to get benefits from?

Im playing a mod that expands the endgame center regions from a dozen sectors to hundreds. So i have options.

Some stations i think players cant build. rift research stations and turret factory supply stations, i think. Might be desirable to build where some of those exist? Which? Rift research seems useful to have in your home.

Some stations are better when you own them. However i can only think of turret factories and maybe fighter factories so you can reroll their blueprints. All the other ones i can think.

Some stations it doesnt matter if you own them or the NPC faction does Shipyards and repair docks and equipment traders and research stations are all pretty important in a home system but they are only just a bit cheaper if you own them and this is endgame so were making a hundred million an hour or more.

Does having gates in your system improve npc traffic to your stations?

Alternatively maybe the best is to just build in a wormhole system for quick travel?

In summary: which stations does the player need to build, which stations is it good for the npc ally to have already built, for an endgame player faction capital system?

Reclaimer Pattern - Mirounga Class Sloop

Salvage Variant of the Mirounga Class Sloop Starter-Ship, designed for a Scavenger Captain.

Reclaimer Pattern on Steam for anyone who want to give her a fly.

Vendor & Bootlegger Patterns - Mirounga Class Sloop

Hauler and Smuggler Variants of the Mirounga Class Sloop Starter-Ship, designed for Merchant and Smuggler Captains respectively.

Vendor Pattern and Bootlegger Pattern on Steam for anyone who want to try them out.
Warning though! As these are only T2 ships, their cargo space is nominal at best - so these ships are really just designed to move tiny amounts of cargo like the 100 Energy Cells or 50-100 Potatoes in the starter missions (but can carry a little more with the right subsystems).

Question about the workshop & local files

I notice one of my .dat files is missing, the Star Citizen Basher I first uploaded to the Workshop.
No stress really, I don't plan on updating that design (unless it ends up broken and I need to update it), but if it's happened once it might happen again to a ship I do want to update later down the track.

For me, the files are stored locally here:
Users\(user name)\AppData\Roaming\Avorion\ships\workshop.
Without that file Avorion wont let me edit/update Workshop designs (only the text and images):

Not too sure what's happened to make this local file disappear, but if anyone (MB the Devs?) knows how to re-generate this .dat file It'd be greatly appreciated.

Also, you guys seem to be getting a little bored of the Mirounga Class Sloops (100% understandable, they are just different patterns of the same core hull), so rather then upload them one at a time as I post them to the workshop - I'll wait till they're all done & post the completed collection.

Prospector Pattern - Mirounga Class Sloop

Next ship of the Mirounga Class Sloops is now up, the Model 01 - Prospector Pattern.
(so far so good for uploading one a day)

The Prospector is an upgrade from the Helmsman Pattern with a few extra buffs (including armour & more hardpoints) and boasts a T2 Hull. Still tiny compared to most of the builds here on Reddit I know, but it is an upgrade from the Helmsman.
The concept for all the T2 hulls is one is designed for each Captain type, and the next one (hopefully tomorrow) is the Model 02 for the Scavenger Captain.

Prospector Pattern is here if you want to have a look in game.
Just like the Helmsman, the Prospector is nothing fancy, just a solid lil' starter mining ship.

Oh, and if anyone notices any errors (spelling in Steam, or block placement in-game) please let me know.
