Aluminum lock jammed

Anyone have tips for a jammed lock on the aluminum carry on? I’ve owned this case for two years with no issues up until this point. The first lock works just fine but the second is jammed. I have already cycled through all 1000 combos to see if the tumblers have shifted but it still doesn’t open. I’ve traveling right now so this is very inconvenient given all my stuff is locked in the suitcase. Any tips beyond waiting for a repair?

Help with checked bag selection

I am traveling to Europe next month and need a new checked bag. I really am not fond of clamshell suitcases but do prefer a hardshell. I recently ordered the new Away Topside Medium and received it yesterday. It is an awesome case but it is so large! At 90L I am surprised it’s classified as a medium. I was going to purchase the medium flex and deal with the clamshell but was thrilled when they released the topside series. Unfortunately, I feel like it’s just too big and am worried about weight. Anyone out there have both and can provide some real feedback? Any chance Away releases a Topside with Medium Flex dimensions? There is another company that manufactures a topside…Lojel? I wonder how it compares?

15% Referral Code Not Working

Tried referring here in Canada to get 15% off for a friend who never bought Away before. Every time they enter their email address or any other email it creates an error message. I don’t remember it being so glitchy and difficult to get codes last year. I tried other referrals with the same results. Any suggestions?

Hey Reddit! I’m Jess, CEO at Away. It’s our 10-year anniversary and the busiest travel season of the year. AMA on Thursday, June 25th at 12pm ET.

Hi r/awayluggage! It’s Jess, CEO at Away 👋

It's hard to believe, but this year marks 10 years since Away shipped its first suitcase. A lot has changed since then: in travel, in our company, and in what travelers expect from the brands they buy from.

Since joining over a year and a half ago, I’ve immersed myself in the brand and business. As an avid Redditor (lurker), it felt like the right moment to come here and have a real conversation with our community about what I’ve learned and what’s next.

A bit about me: I've been a consumer goods operator for the last 15 years, growing and building brands in beauty, fashion, luxury, tech and now travel. I have a passion for retail, great products and strong brand stories. I'm from France originally but have been living in the US for the past 20 years, and now living in NY with my husband and two young kids.

I’m here to answer questions about:

  • What I’ve seen during my first year as CEO
  • The state of travel, from what I'm seeing in the industry, and from our customers
  • My approach to leadership and my career experience overall
  • What I’m most excited about for Away, both this year and for the next 10
  • My bucket list travel destinations
  • And more.

A few ground rules:

  • Please keep your comments on topic for this AMA. The more specific, the better. I will do my best to answer as many questions as I can open and honestly.
  • Please be kind and respect the Subreddit rules.
  • For specific order questions, send u/away_official a DM.

I'll be live answering questions from 12–1pm ET on Thursday, June 25th, and I'll come back the next day to reply to any I missed. Drop your questions below in advance if you can't make it live.

Talk soon,
Jess

New Topside Bigger Carry On

I just received my bigger carryon today and while I knew it was bigger, it’s noticeably bigger than my old suitcase. It’s beautiful, and I really want to keep it. Has anyone actually flown with the new topside bigger carryon? I fly Delta and United a lot for work, and hoping it will actually work for both.

15% off - Everywhere bag

It’s strange… On the Canadian version of the website, the bag is advertised as 15% off, but the discount doesn’t apply when I add it to my cart.
Sad…

aluminum carry-on review

I just came back from a flight using the aluminum carry on ($625) and wanted to leave a review for anyone also on the fence like I was! TLDR—highly recommend for anyone looking for a high end long term suitcase for weekend travel.

Initial thoughts:
It arrived packed well in its own canvas luggage bag. I was surprised at the hefty weight of the carryon itself, especially because I purchased the smaller of the two options to fit with international travel guidelines for size and weight. *Please note the weight if you frequently fly airlines with weight limits.*

Quality:
Really impressed by the brushed silver finish of the exterior, and by the general quality. The handles, buckles, clasps, wheels are extremely well made, and are quietly effective. I can’t speak to the possibilities of scratching as I have not checked the bag yet, but this was my biggest worry as I hate the look of black scratches. As a carryon, so far, scratch free!

Things I like:
Exterior: I love** **the closure of the suitcase—I am used to zip up suitcases, and the buckles (and locks) are airtight. I’m impressed to the point I won’t return to zip up suitcases. Another small detail that wowed me is the weighted handle. It glides quietly when extending and shortens, and doesn’t rattle, even when rolling the suitcase on cobblestone. This was one of my greatest pet peeves for my regular Samsonite luggages!

Interior: The insides have more pockets than expected and the dividers are well thought out as well. I am used to both sides of the suitcase being zip ups, and I like that one side of this one is a divider for more bulky items.

Conclusion: I recommend! Worth every penny, especially during a sale or with a referral code (for $40 off).

Med? Med Flex? Or Topside Med?

It’s time for new luggage. Away piece should I get?

The Medium? Medium Flex? Or new Topside Medium?

I have ruled out the Large. I want to prevent my ability to go over the weight limit as I tend to overpack…

Going to get the bigger carry on too.

Lastly, how does the olive green look in person? Debating that or the Coast Blue.

Thanks!!

Sale help

Someone help me understand this “sale”. Even items listed under the sale section or things showing “15% off” in the photos don’t actually have any discount when I add to cart or try to check out. I’m even signed into my account. Am I missing something??

Wondering what fits?

Just came back from Cancun using my carry on away luggage with the expander and I was able to fit

4 dresses

2 cardigans

3 jean shorts

2 lounge pants

4 shirts

10 pairs of socks

10 pairs on underwear

Makeup bag

Hair curler

2 pairs of heels, 2 pairs of sandals

Sunscreen

Love the compressor feature!!

Also, we flew United and had no issues bringing it on board :)
