Planes at Ballarat Airport

My kids have gotten really into planes lately, so I took them out to Ballarat Airport last week hoping to catch some. Unfortunately, it was pretty quiet.

Are there specific days of the week or times of day where we are more likely to see a few take-offs and landings?

Thanks!

Seeking Vogel Bread/equivalent!!

Hello Ballarat!! My Mum moved to Ballarat from New Zealand a few years ago and would love to get some Vogel bread or a close equivalent.

Apparently Burgen bread is not as good, I’ve tried to order it online from the Kiwi Corner Dairy but shipping was $119!!!!

Hoping some fellow Kiwis in Ballarat or neighbouring towns have found something similar.

Thanks!

Do you know Anthony and Bianca who drive a 4WD and winched out a red Yaris from the mud this morning?

Hey Ballarat, I need your help, please. Do you know an Antony and Biance who drive a dark coloured 4WD? We are in town visiting my parents and we took the chance for my daughter to have a driving lesson. Due to my poor instructions, she pulled over at the edge of Victoria Park... in the mud. Not her fault at all.

We were stuck. Super stuck. Within a couple of minutes, Anthony and Bianca pulled up to help us, and winched us out of the mud.

It was such a very kind thing to do, and I would very much like to send them a dinner voucher, but I don't know any details. Both very clever and patient, so if you know these people, please could you ask them if they are happy with you giving me their details?

I can be DMed and I would be so grateful if you were able to help me find them! 🙏❤️

Real estate

What’s people general consensus regarding real estate prices in Ballarat. I know it’s like looking into a crystal ball, but a housing crisis, and falling prices don’t really seem to go hand in hand.

Norwich Plaza Appreciation Post

Seriously, the Norwich Plaza and Grenville Street area has seen such a massive improvement. They did a really good job.

Ballarat Nightlife, is it still a thing?

I've seen a big decline in late night venues over the last several years. Most nightclubs have closed. Two choices on a Saturday night, one till 3am or one till 4am. Only option on a Friday closes at 4am. Considering Ballarat is an ever-growing regional City of over 120,000 why the decline in nightlife?..

ADHD Diagnosis

Are there any doctors in Ballarat that have the new training to diagnose adhd? Or are there any recommendations for a Psychologist and prices to do the assessment here. The prices I see online vary a lot, and I would prefer to see someone in person.

I've been "unofficially" diagnosed, and I would like a formal assessment so I can start medication. I'm so sick of living like this, and I've had enough of struggling.

Thanks

Crossing Grant St on the Wallaby Track (Yarrowee trail) sucks!

This crossing is very dangerous and the council has known about it for years. They had plans drawn up 2 years to make it safer, but since then nothing has happened.

If you have ever tried to cross here on foot or on a bike you know just how bad it is. It's very hard to judge driver speed because of the proximity to the roundabout, and the refuge in the middle is a joke. Forget about trying to cross there with kids.

Since we're sick of this, we (Better Streets Ballarat) have decided to organise a community meeting for Saturday 15 August (that's tomorrow!) 10:30am at the crossing, to try and pressure all levels of government to commit to actually funding a fix.

This isn't a big demonstration or anything - if you think this crossing could be improved come along and show the council and state and federal governments that this is something you want. It even looks like the weather will be nice! :)

No trains again (rest of August) or a mix of trains and replacement buses

Yes that's right it's back:

Rail works and the Melton Station works are cutting trains again.

Local Ballarat based folks just a heads up replacement buses were back out the front not at the town bus interchange where the vlines were :)

https://www.vline.com.au/Service-Changes/planned-disruptions/2026/August/Service-changes-on-the-Ballarat,-Ararat-and-Marybo

Wednesday 12, Thursday 13: buses replace trains all the way

Friday 14 to Tuesday 18th: Bus to Caroline Springs, train from there to the city, UNLESS it's after 8pm, then it's buses all the way. Just assume a bus.

Wednesday 19 to Monday 24: Bus to Caroline Springs then get out and get the train

Monday 24 to the 31st of August: buses to southern cross

..... It looks like there's timetable soup again too, so, obvs check the link for details and be NICE TO PEOPLE

(and rug up)

The v/line is actually going to make me do something drastic

stuck on the freezing platform at ballarat station again because of another mystery signal fault. my toes are literally going numb

I swear this commute is slowly draining my will to live. Doing the hybrid thing 3 days a week now and it's just brutal. was sitting there shivering and just doomscrolling melbourne rentals on my phone to distract myself. Ended up looking at some high-rise city apartments through ray white southbank and ngl, seeing places with actual double glazing and a 5 min walk to the cbd offices made me seriously question why I put myself through this daily torture

but then I remember trying to fit my dog in a tiny apartment and I just sigh and wait for the replacement bus.

Anyone else doing the melb commute right now and losing their mind? I need to know im not the only one suffering in the cold this morning

Scythes for mowing long grass?

I have some long grass in my backyard, and due to the unpredictable weather and work; I havent been able to secure some consecutive days off work to mow (battery operated mower and snipper).

I was considering purchasing a scythe to use after work instead of power garden tools, but im unsure of the legalities of owning a scythe in a residential area for the only purpose of knocking down this grass and weeds in tricky to mow areas while keeping the noise level down.

Is anyone able to shed light on whether this is do-able?

Food at the Base

I have a friend who is hospitalised at the moment, and they are having a really hard time with the food. They're already restricted on what they can order due to dietary restriction.

Is the food served to patients at the Base regularly bad?

In the sense of they dont get what they order, the quality is almost inedible etc. Or, is it specific wards that are affected.

Note, they have been a patient at several hospitals, big and small, but this is by far the worst. We know hospital food isn't great (hilarious really).

Regional emergency departments are overcrowded and risking patient safety, doctors say

>Ballarat Base Hospital ED doctor David* said patients having to wait more than 40 hours in ED for a bed on the ward "wasn't uncommon".

>He said it was normal for ED patients to overflow into corridors or unmonitored waiting rooms, where there was a risk they could deteriorate.

LGBTQIA+ friendly GPs

Hey all,

Looking for any recommendations of good drs who are at a bulk billing practice and are LGBTQIA+ friendly around Ballarat?

Am a 28yo queer male who’s looking for a good dr without judgement to become my regular gp, have been through several since moving here and haven’t found one yet to stick (have all been within same practice).

Also any good psychiatrist recommendations around town while I’m at it, who have their books open?

Vet recommendation for rabbits

I have a newly acquired rabbit that a friend could no longer dedicate time to. She’ll need vaccinations next month (and a general check up) so wondering if anyone has recommendations for a vet. I’m also looking into getting her a friend, are there any rescue organisations nearby? Thanks!
