Hi,
we’re four guys, and we’ve put together Westminster’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota. The concept is simple: you see two places side by side (for example Famille vs. Kachina Southwestern Grill), you choose the place you’d rather go to, and the ranking updates instantly. The more people vote, the more accurate the list gets over time. There are still a few duplicates here and there, but I’m continuously cleaning up the data.

Here’s the iPhone version, with categories that actually fit Westminster’s food scene:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota-restaurant-ratings/id6744969212

And here’s the Android version (finally live):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

P.S. I’m not from Westminster (I live in Gothenburg). I’m not collecting data, not selling anything, and the app does not use AI-generated content. I’m posting in a few different subreddits because we now support more regions, and I genuinely want honest feedback from people who actually know the area.

"Coastermania" Featuring Jeffrey Thompson owner of Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

"Coastermania" is a classic 1996 British documentary produced by Meridian Broadcasting, famously exploring the adrenaline-fueled subculture of roller coaster enthusiasts. The film primarily focuses on members of the Roller Coaster Club of Great Britain (RCCGB) as they travel the globe riding iconic rides, including the historic Grand National at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. The documentary captures a unique era of theme park history, showcasing the obsessive dedication of fans chasing extreme thrills. It also famously features segments shot in the United States—most notably at Cedar Point in Ohio—and rare footage of the legendary, gravity-defying Moonsault Scramble coaster in Japan. For a vintage look at how roller coaster enthusiasts and clubs celebrated their favorite rides in the late 1990s:1996

Looking for LGBT friendly spaces/gaming/friends

Hiya just moved here and would kinda like to find my people. I'm an exjw so all of this is new to me. Would love to try dnd and meet some cool people, just wanna be cautious tbh. I'm not really a drinker, but open to checking out some bars potentially, though would prefer nerdier quieter spaces. Lmk

Using Blackpool annual season platinum pass for 1 day access to Portventura World

Hi. Going to Salou this Friday and want to use our Blackpool pleasure platinum passes for one day entry into the portventura park.

Contacted Blackpool pleasure beach and they could only informed me I need to contact portventura as each park entrance conditions are different. Would appreciate anyone's help please. Thank you.

Just to add think I've exhausted all avenues as Blackpool pleasure beach were not much help. Sent direct message to Portventura World on their Facebook and Instagram and no response.

Looking for the name of a small Bengali-owned grocery shop in Blackpool (around 2001) – memory is a bit hazy!

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to track down the name of a small grocery/corner shop where my mum worked back in 2001 in Blackpool.

Her memory of that time is pretty hazy, so some of these details might not be 100% accurate, but here is what she recalls:

The Area: Likely around Central Drive / Revoe (roughly a 15–20 min walk from her bus stop/town centre).

The Shop: A small independent grocery store run by a Bengali gentleman.

Surroundings:
A mosque within walking distance (we're guessing Blackpool Central Mosque on Revoe St).
A café right next door / adjacent to the shop.
A men's salon / barber directly opposite across the road.

Since it's been over 20 years, some bits of the layout or timing might be slightly off, but if this general setup rings any bells for locals who lived around Central Drive/Revoe in the early 2000s, I’d really appreciate any names you might remember!

Thanks a lot!

What’s the weather like right now?

Hailing from Blackpool and now live in the south east - heading back home for a short trip to see family tomorrow until Friday. What’s the weather like? What are you wearing? I was in Margate on Sunday and it was like being in Spain but my mum has said it’s been freezing and rainy.

That said, my mum is 85 and likes to err on the dramatic side…

Employees or ex employees of the pleasure beach, do you have any interesting stories about working there?

Just recently visited and went down a bit of a rabbit hole after googling why space invader had closed down in the 00s (a young boy died unfortunately).

It got me wondering what it's like to work there. Any stories from ex staff would be fab, interested in knowing what the park is like after dark and how involved staff are in the safety procedures.

What was the weirdest thing you saw on shift? Did you ever see a ghost or something creepy you can't explain? Did you like the job? Do staff ever get the chance to go on the rides after it's closed?

Literally any stories. Just curious. Thanks!

Fleetwood & St Anne’s trip bank holiday weekend

I’ve booked to go Blackpool for the bank holiday weekend (Friday 28th - Monday 31st) August because Pleasure Beach has their twilight thrills evening on the Saturday. Furthermore I would like to also check out Fleetwood and St Anne’s during my trip on the Flyde coast but I’m not sure when the best days of the weekend to go excluding the Saturday of course. I have done Blackpool many times for a place I adore lots and happy to explore other places. I have a concession bus pass which will help my travelling, but what day would be the best to check out Fleetwood & St Anne’s?

Thank you.

Need someone in the FY area, preferably near Hale Nook-union lane.

I was visiting last week and driving down an awful road, I ended up damaging my car from the road and lose rubble, insurance are asking for photos of the road condition as google maps is 4 years out of date! and I’m over 200 miles away. I didn’t think to do it at the time as I was too flustered and annoyed at myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Scared of the gym

So, I'm 30 and female and I'm unfit and frankly fat. I've improved my eating and lost 3 stone in the last year and I'm noticing excess skin on my arms, so I want to go to the gym!

I have a membership at Village, and Im happy to go swimming and using the sauna but I'm high key scared of working out on my own. Idk what I'm doing and Im worried I'll look stupid or worse, give up.

Hoping to find a gym buddy, but do be warned, I'm girly as fuck and my hobbies are mostly gaming, horror, makeup and English folklore

Any jobs or work going?

Worked remotely in sales until I was made redundant about a month ago, I've applied for lots of remote work and several jobs in Blackpool but not hearing anything back.

I signed up to a few agencies for part time hospitality work but only had 1 shift so far as they're booked solid for a couple weeks. I'm also volunteering in a charity shop a couple times a week to keep myself productive.

Does anybody know of any jobs or work going in the area? Or even volunteering work or opportunities to grow personally/ professionally. I've worked in sales, customs clearance, hospitality, home maintenance, payment processing, proof reading and copy writing but I'm physically fit and happy to try anything.

If anyone knows of anything I'd appreciate it, even if it's just someone local who needs their dog walking for free or a picture hanging up or plug socket wiring or a community centre needs an extra pair of hands.

Thanks for reading!

Massive thank you to the saint who returned my wallet via post about a week after I lost it in Cleveleys

I was out with the family not long ago in Cleveleys and lost my wallet. Being someone who holds people in very little regard, I completely wrote off the chance of ever getting it back.

Apparently there's still some hope for us lol

I know there's no way they're gonna see this. But massive thanks to the sweetheart who not only found it, but took the time out their life to help a random dumbass like myself. Good to know there's some good people left in the world 💙

How do we feel about this New Yorker article? A scathing review or a love letter?

I'm an American, but live in Blackpool now and recently bought my first home here.

I subscribe to New Yorker magazine and was surprised when I logged in today to see this article pop up in the news feed.

For context, most New Yorker articles are targeted at a university educated, corporate, upper class American audience.

Solar Eclipse Glasses

Does anyone know where I can buy proper solar eclipse glasses in or around Blackpool today?

Looking to get a few pairs locally rather than ordering online, as I’d like them in time for tomorrow’s eclipse.

If anyone has seen them in stock at any shops/opticians, please let me know. Thanks!

Help - advice on recruiting in Blackpool

Hi guys!

I work for a mystery shopping company called Serve Legal and thought I'd post in here as we're really struggling for auditors in the Blackpool area at the moment!

The work involves visiting places like supermarkets, pubs/bars, betting shops and other retailers to carry out quick compliance checks. For younger auditors (16-20) this can include testing whether you're correctly asked for ID when purchasing age-restricted products. We also have lots of allergen and other compliance audits available for over 20s too.

I actually started out doing the age-restricted audits myself around Wales before eventually joining Serve Legal as an internal staff member, so I've done the job from both sides!!

At the moment we have virtually nobody covering Blackpool, which means we're having to send auditors over from places like Preston and Blackburn when there's actually plenty of work available locally. So I thought I'd come directly to a Blackpool group and see if anyone local would be interested instead.

It's completely flexible as you choose which audits you want to do and when - so it's genuinely a really good little job alongside college, uni, another job, or just for anyone wanting to make some extra money.

If you're interested, you don't have to go through me or click any random links, I’m just genuinely trying all options to recruit in Blackpool. Just search Serve Legal online and you'll find the official website where you can read about the company and apply directly.

I'm genuinely not trying to poach anyone or spam the group 😂 I just know from doing the job myself that it's a great way to earn some extra money, and we have loads of work sitting around Blackpool that we'd much rather give to people who actually live locally!

Happy to answer any questions about what the work is like 😊

If you are not interested but have any advice on how I can recruit further in Blackpool I would love to hear it too!!
