Hi,
we’re four guys, and we’ve put together Westminster’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota. The concept is simple: you see two places side by side (for example Famille vs. Kachina Southwestern Grill), you choose the place you’d rather go to, and the ranking updates instantly. The more people vote, the more accurate the list gets over time. There are still a few duplicates here and there, but I’m continuously cleaning up the data.

Here’s the iPhone version, with categories that actually fit Westminster’s food scene:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota-restaurant-ratings/id6744969212

And here’s the Android version (finally live):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

P.S. I’m not from Westminster (I live in Gothenburg). I’m not collecting data, not selling anything, and the app does not use AI-generated content. I’m posting in a few different subreddits because we now support more regions, and I genuinely want honest feedback from people who actually know the area.

Anyone recommendations where to stay in the winter for a couple nights?

Hi Everyone,

So just for context we are travelling up from down south for 2 nights purely because my daughter (7) who is Autistic can visit the Gruffalo Clubhouse, which is one of her favourite places.

We usually come in the Summer and stay in the north end of the tower towards Bispham, however this time it is a fleeting visit and we are considering somewhere near the clubhouse.

We have never stayed in the winter so any local tips would be super helpful especially from families or anyone who has children of the same around.

TIA!

Edit - Apologises I have fucked the title up, but yes any help would be great!

Swimming at the beach

We have been here a couple of days and havent seen a single person even relaxing on the beach? It has been a little breezy but I would expect to see more people enjoying a sandy beach even on the cloudier days. Is it the water quality that puts people off?

Dress code for bars

What is the dress code like for the bars on the seafront Saturday during the day, and on the night? Do they let you in wearing shorts, trainers and a nike dri-fit T shirt for example? We are coming to Blackpool tomorrow doing the beach stuff, but also want to hit a few bars.

I'm no expert but I think this might be violating some rules and regs here 😂

Swede spending the week in Blackpool – looking for advice on what to get up to.

Hi everyone!

Me and my girlfriend (both Swedish mid twenties) decided to mix it up and visit the first feasible place that popped up on instagram. We are coming to Blackpool next week for two days before travelling onwards towards London and haven't a clue about what we should get up to. Trying to read up on it has been a bit difficult as many of the articles speak of the Blackpool of old, so to speak. But from what we gather it used to be, and maybe still is to some degree (?) a tourist hub for domestic travel?

So, if you had a few days in Blackpool to get a feel for it, what would you get up to? Can be absolutely whatever, both high and low :)

Thanks in advance and hope this doesn't violate any of the subreddit rules.

All the best

Why has Blackpool Council not invested in... Blackpool?

Why has Blackpool Council not invested in Blackpool? I love going to Blackpool, but every year I go it looks more and more depressing. I go out on to the piers, broken, dirty, old, disgusting.

What are Blackpool Council actually spending money on? When I think about a modern Blackpool, I think each pier has a theme, think Gravity Max in Liverpool spread across three piers. The entire front affordable rates and rent for innovative and traditional hotspots such as the £1 bingo. They can't even keep their Theme Park up to date!!

Blackpool as a year round tourism attraction, yet the council has allowed it to rot away.

Noise in Blackpool

Do you think there is an excess of noisy motorbikes in Blackpool? I live near Whitegate Drive and I regularly hear them coming from a long way away, regularly shattering the peace. The Drive is a main arterial road through Blackpool and is also frequently used by the police and ambulances with sirens on. I wonder if anybody assesses noise levels in Blackpool? Too much noise is bad for your health
