Had my first cardinal at my camera today and scared me half to death!

This lovely lady had been showing signs of molting over the past week and finally achieved Peak Cheëp.

My parents named him Richelieu back when he was looking more dressed than undressed… Time for a more fitting name perhaps? 🤔

This blöödcheep (molting cardinal) has been frequenting our feeder lately. I love him very much!

Took this photo because this northern cardinal fledgling appears to be featherless on his head! Has anyone ever seen this? Is it a mutation?

Is this normal?

The photos aren’t very good as he was in the highest treetop and I only had my phone camera on me. If you look closely , he looks like he’s wearing a fluffy coat and has a little bald head with a single feather dangling on top

I rarely see my neighbourhood cardinals in this phase, especially since I’ve had to take my birdfeeders down due to squirrels and a raccoon family emptying them daily, but I do see many Blücheëps up close each year. Blücheëp season is fast approaching. Also bonus Blücheëp pic .
