Bad Book Etiquette

I’ve got a very small bookstagram account (less than 200 followers) — I’m an ARC reviewer and use IG for posting reviews. I feel bad about posting reviews for books I thought weren’t good, but also, I feel like people need to know what you like and don’t like to be able to get a feel for if your recs fit them. What‘s the etiquette? Obviously it I post something less than 4 stars, I wouldn’t tag the author, but I don’t know about a 2 star book…

Question about bookstagram

I just recently converted my Instagram to a bookstagram. I do still use it as my personal insta and have my family and friends on there. Should I change my username or is it ok to leave it as it was even though it has nothing to do with reading? lol.

My Partner made a Bookstagram!

Hi all,

Not sure if I'm in the right place for this!

I'm not a huge reader, I'm more into mangas! However, my girlfriend runs her own book club with some of her friends! She's just made a Bookstagram recently. I think she's just hit 50 followers and her face lit up like a Christmas tree when she found that out.

Some of the genres they explore but are not limited to are:

  • YA, Mystery
  • High Fantasy
  • Lit Fic, Coming of age
  • Thriller, Dark Comedy

If any of these genres take your fancy go shoot her a follow! Much appreciated!

wecamfortheplot is the @

Happy reading! 😄

What’s one fictional character who genuinely felt emotionally real to you?

Not “cool.”
Not “iconic.”

Just… human.

The kind of character whose pain, silence, or decisions stayed in your mind long after the book ended.

Trying to study what actually makes readers emotionally connect with fictional people.

What happened to Bookstagram?

I’ve been on Bookstagram for almost 5–6 years now, and honestly, it has changed so much. Back then, it genuinely felt like a space for books, honest reviews, discussions, and readers simply sharing their love for reading.

The same goes for ARCs too. Recently, it feels like ARC reviews have become more about getting free goodies or staying on an author’s good side rather than giving genuine opinions. That’s honestly why I mostly rely on Goodreads reviews now, so many of them feel raw, honest, and real.

I slowly stepped back from Bookstagram for many reasons and just continued reading reviews on Goodreads instead. Sometimes I really miss what the community used to feel like.

What about you? Do you feel like Bookstagram has changed too?

Hi! Quite new! Need advice.

So I've been pondering on whether to start an Instagram account to review books and talk about major issues in India (I'm from there, BTW!) Also to add details at the end as to what in my opinion could have been better in the book or what could have worked better. My forte is generally thriller, mystery and english literature especially poems and romance novels, i do not read fantasy 😭. This is open to all. Please feel free to share advice and tips on how to get started! I also do not have any fancy set up i mean atp not even a stand or a tripod just me and my stack of books!

The Midnight Library changed the way I think about choices in life

The Midnight Library really made me reflect on how every small decision can feel huge when you zoom out. I liked how it explored the idea of parallel lives and regret, but also how it doesn’t completely romanticize “perfect” outcomes. It made me think that maybe there isn’t one perfect version of life, just different experiences we grow from

Anyone else struggle with bookstagram effecting their mood ?

I don’t really know if anyone else feels like this, but lately I’ve realised books, TV adaptations and even Bookstagram are affecting me way more emotionally than I expected.

I started reading again because I genuinely loved it. It gave me something that felt like mine outside of work, parenting, routine, real life stress etc. And honestly, some books have made me feel more hopeful and excited than I’ve felt in ages.

But I think I’ve also hit this weird point where I’m constantly consuming stories about intense friendships, romance, community, people travelling together, influencer events, close online friendships, exciting lives… and then I look at my own life and it suddenly feels really small and repetitive.

I scroll Bookstagram and everyone seems to have found their people. Group chats. ARC teams. Events. Friends who hype each other up. Meanwhile I’m sat wondering if I’m doing something wrong because I post consistently and still feel a bit invisible.

I want to grow an audience and build something genuine online. I’d love the community side of it. But sometimes the more I consume, the lonelier I feel instead of inspired.

I think books and social media can blur the line between escapism and comparison more than people admit.

Has anyone else struggled with this? How do you enjoy reading and being online without constantly feeling like your real life should somehow look bigger, closer or more exciting?

How do you guys come up with ideas for content?

I’m not very creative. But I really wanna contribute to this community. I haven’t really posted in weeks because my mind has been elsewhere.
How do you guys come up with content? Do you plan it in advance? Or do you just kinda go with the flow?
