After Artur, The Next Light Heavyweight Knockout King?

Often you don't realise how good you've had it, til it's gone. Beterbiev has been appointment viewing in the light heavyweight division for years, pretty much guaranteeing you a wince-inducing power punching performance each time. But the end is nigh sadly.

I expect Bivol to continue his reign over the division regardless of what Benavidez ends up doing. Bivol for all his brilliance is not a puncher.

Got any tips for guys who might fill the vacuum as the go-to destroyer at Light Heavy?

What did you guys think of Keyshawn Davis’ recent performance against Nahir and what should be his next fight?

Hagler vs Hearns (1985) — was this the most violent 3 rounds in boxing history?

I keep going back to Marvelous Marvin Hagler vs Thomas “Hitman” Hearns in 1985, and I honestly don’t think boxing has ever looked like that for a sustained stretch.

From the opening bell, there was no feeling-out process, no respect phase, just pure violence. Hearns comes out sharp and fast, Hagler immediately walks through it like it’s nothing, and then it turns into one of the most brutal exchanges you’ll ever see in a ring.

What makes it legendary isn’t just that it ended in 3 rounds, it’s that all 3 rounds felt like a full fight on their own. Hearns was landing heavy shots, Hagler was eating them and responding harder, and the pace never dropped for even a second. The canvas literally became part of the story with how much damage was happening that early.

By the time Hagler finished it, it didn’t feel like a “win” so much as surviving a war and finishing it before it finished you.

One of James Toney’s greatest knockouts came against Tim Littles after suffering a nasty cut on his eye..

James Toney doesn’t get talked about enough when people discuss pure defensive skill

Everybody talks about the obvious defensive legends, but James Toney at his best was ridiculous to watch.

The shoulder rolls, counters, timing, and how calm he stayed under pressure made him look like he was solving fighters in real time. His performance against Iran Barkley especially stands out to me because of how sharp and composed he looked throughout the fight.

It’s one of those performances that boxing fans appreciate more the more they understand the sport.

Remember when Roy Jones Jr. struggled against Montell Griffin for 9 rounds and then intentionally punched Griffin twice while he was already down? Then completely destroyed him in the rematch?

Should a fight be stopped if it’s completely one sided even if the other fighter is still throwing punches here and there? Should the referee have stopped this fight in the final round? Obviously Richard Hall didn’t want it to be stopped.

The Ken Norton vs Larry Holmes Heavyweight Championship fight is considered one of the best fights of all time and that 15th and final round was a round to remember.

I trained at the same camp as Terry Norris and his brother Orlin trained at, The First Fighter Squadron in Campo, California. A fight we’d talk about often was Norris vs Trinidad that was being mentioned in 1993/1994 but never got made. It would have been a super fight.
