Audio Sync on tvOS 27 beta 4

I’ve been testing build 3 on my 17PM, M5 iPad Pro and Apple TVs (A1842 and couple of A2169s), and its working very smoothly and is super responsive overall. It’s certainly the best build to date, and that’s saying quite a lot! However…

While testing build 3 on one of my A2169s running tvOS 27 beta 3, swapping channels forces the audio to drop out entirely. Even while watching a single channel, eventually the sound will drop out. Beta 4 is downloading now on this device, so perhaps that will help, but the problem cannot be reproduced on the other A2169 running beta 3 and the A1842 is on beta 4 already - no issues here either.

I’m also unable to set Audio Sync to Auto on any of my Apple TVs running build 3 - maybe I misunderstood that feature in the release notes - and cannot manually adjust it via the circle & beep screen. The selector stays on the Settings tab and doesn’t ”drop” into the screen’s UI to make any changes.

All Apple TVs are connected to my network via Ethernet, and all devices are running either 26.5 or 27 beta 3 or 4.

An Update on Bunny Ears TV Pricing and What Comes Next

Hi everyone,

Bunny Ears TV officially left beta about two weeks ago, and I want to share an update about pricing for new users.

The original prices of $2.99 monthly, $17.99 yearly, and $29.99 lifetime were always intended to be introductory pricing for the beta community and early supporters. Beta testers have now had a couple of weeks to purchase at those prices, and anyone who already subscribed or purchased lifetime access will remain locked into their current pricing forever. Nothing is changing for you.

I cannot thank the beta community enough! Your feedback, bug reports, patience, and feature ideas helped turn Bunny Ears TV into what it is today.

I have also heard from a couple of beta testers who wanted to purchase but simply did not have the extra money available at the time. Or, maybe you’re still in the trial period and have been unable to purchase lifetime. I completely understand that.

If you participated in the beta or are an early adopter, please send me a message, or comment right here on this post, and let me know. I'm going to compile a list of users and will honor the original beta pricing for all of you. I do not want someone who genuinely helped build this app to miss out just because the timing was bad.

Pricing for New Users

Going forward, the standard prices for new users will be:

- $4.99/month
- $29.99/annual
- $99.99 lifetime
- 14 day free trial for subscriptions
- Basic channels always remain free

This change is necessary as I begin advertising Bunny Ears TV and working to reach a much larger audience. Bringing in new users through advertising costs money, and some planned future features will require paid APIs and other ongoing services.

I continue to pour a huge amount of time into Bunny Ears TV. My hope is that it can grow into something much bigger than a passion project, while still feeling like a fun, independent app built with care (because it always will be).

The Future Is Looking Bright!

I just released the new iPhone and iPad interfaces into beta. I want to get the core experience right before expanding into new large feature sets, but I am very excited to finally bring Bunny Ears TV beyond the living room.

The next round of betas is already bringing some big additions:

  • More MAJOR and truly unique features are already planned, but I don't want to share anything too early

There is a lot more I want to build, and I believe Bunny Ears TV will continue becoming more valuable over time.

I know price changes are never the most exciting announcement, but I hope the community understands why this is necessary and how much work continues to go into the app. The goal is to keep Bunny Ears TV sustainable, continue improving it for years to come, and give it the opportunity to become something really special.

Thank you again to everyone who has supported Bunny Ears TV so far. We are only getting started!

Request: Additional Channel Icons

Been using BunnyearsTV for a little while now and I'm really enjoying it.

One thing I'd love to see in a future update is a few more horror and sci-fi themed channel icons. I organise my Plex library by subgenre, so I'd definitely get a lot of use out of things like:

  • 📹 Camcorder
  • 🐙 Tentacle
  • 🧟 Zombie
  • 🧛 Vampire
  • 👽 Alien
  • 🔪 Knife
  • 👻 Ghost
  • 🏚️ Haunted House
  • 🪆 Creepy Doll
  • 🐺 Werewolf
  • 🧪 Mad Scientist
  • 🫀 Body Horror
  • ☢️ Radiation
  • 🛸 Flying Saucer

I know some are a bit niche, but I can't be the only horror fan using the app. 😄

Anyone else got any icon ideas they'd like to see?

Custom channels with both TV and Movies?

Is it possible to make a custom channel with both TV and Movies? I seem to only be able to make one or the other. Trying to make an all Star Wars channel and would love to have both shows and movies intermingling

Edit: here I am trying to do this and theres already a Star Wars channel 😆

Some media is just a still picture with normal audio

In the last few beta’s and even in the current one, some media I tune to just shows the first frame of video. The audio is playing fine though. I can fast forward it and that seems to “kick” it into playing normally.

It’s not everything, but for example S4, E10 of Game of Thrones did it.

Also the tune in time is much longer in this release. It says tuning in for longer than the old static did. Might take 30 seconds to a minute to change channels.

Custom Channels - What are we making?

I was wondering what custom channels everyone has been coming up with? I am having so much fun with this app, and I’m curious what creative channels others have come up with.

For myself, I’ve created a Laurel & Hardy channel and one called “Stellan & Stormare” to pull in everything from these two great Swedes. What custom channels have you created?

I bought a lifetime sub last week and now it’s acting like I don’t exist

What gives?!

EDIT: TLDR I purchased lifetime pass last week via the app from app store and unlocked all the features. Then yesterday it stopped working and act like i didn't have a lifetime sub despite the purchase still being present in my app store and bank account. [image](https://www.reddit.com/media url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fa0feki4u7eeh1.jpeg%3Fwidth%3D1179%26format%3Dpjpg%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D552b0cec8db66b5669b7fc816faba5565e2d35af)

EDIT EDIT: There is a restore purchase button at the bottom of the subscription lists. It works now.

25,000 Music Video... I want my MTV!

I have a collection of over 25K music videos carefully curated from multiple sources over the years. I have tried many solutions like ezratv to build out a MTV guide and it was a lot of work, but was never stable. Connecting to a M3u stream with auth in VLC is fine, but I have always wanted a simple shuffle on my TV or computer with A simple Title printed on the screen at start and end of the video.

None of these videos have any extra meta data, they are just all in one big folder. The file names are all well formatted. (Artist) - Title. But are multiple formats (mp4, mov, etc). Plex has a hard time with this many files in a library, currently using Jellyfin solo for just music videos, but it has a hard time "shuffling" so many file, it takes at least a minute for it to start play back after shuffle.

What are the odds of getting MTV style channels in Bunny Ears?

BETA: 1.11 Build 3 HUGE UPDATE - iPhone & iPad Support is Here!

First off, happy Friday!

Beta 1.11 Build 3 is probably the biggest feature set introduction since launch.

There's a lot here, and I hope you can take the time to read through everything. That way you know what to test, and explore!

And please do chime in and share your feedback. It seems to be a little quieter lately. Maybe that's a good thing because there's less to report, but with a large release like this, there's bound to be issues. Even if you're not experiencing a bug, let me know what new additions you're enjoying!

The Biggest News

  • iPhone and iPad interfaces are here! Even though this is build 3, it's the first build to include support for more than the Apple TV. I've done quite a bit of testing on my own, and I've made many tweaks and improvements to Auto transcoding over the past month so devices gracefully handle switching from Wifi, 5G, and LTE. I'm sure you'll all find things that need fixing since this is the first release, but I'm super excited to get this out to you all!

Other Cool New Features

  • Weather on 20 is a new 24/7 weather channel, on you guessed it, channel 20. There's current weather conditions, extended forecast, and almanac screens. Each has a wealth of weather information. The background color is dynamic to match weather and day/night conditions, and the soundtrack comes from your own Plex music library, with a preference for jazz and easy listening if those exist in your music library.
  • There's a new profiles tab bar item for fast user switching. You'll see your profile photo and name right next to Guide and Settings.

Some Smaller Feature and Updates

  • The static effect got a lot fancier. There are now 4 static options. Auto (the new default), Day, Night, and Off. Auto uses sunrise and sunset data from the weather channel to toggle between Day and Night mode. Day is the classic static look you're familiar with. Night substitutes the white color in the static for a darker blue color pallet, which makes night viewing less straining on the eyes when channel surfing. Off gets rid of the static, and instead displays light gray "Tuning In" text on a dark background.
  • There's now a date and time widget in the guide. It's enabled by default, but can be turned off on the Guide settings screen. Handy for not losing track of time.
  • You can now enable channel logo overlays when in fullscreen mode, just like real broadcast TV. It's a small change, but it's nice to have a subtle visual indicator always visible to let you know what channel you're on. This setting is under Settings > Playback > Live TV > Channel Logo Overlay.
  • Additional guide scheduler fixes have been added to build 3. There were some regressions while making the guide more random in previous builds. I've added a ridiculous amount of new tests to catch future regressions, and I believe the issue is fully fixed now. Sorry about that!
  • The ML classifier has been updated to version 2.10 after some additional training data was added. I created a report to find weak spots in the training data, and worked to build out the weak areas. The classifier is now trained on over 300,000+ media items, and you should see more movies and tv shows appear as the model gained confidence in new areas.
  • The Guide now defaults to not muting the video preview. I ran a poll and the majority agreed it was confusing when sound wasn't playing on initial launch. There's still the option to disable this under Settings > Guide > Mute Guide Preview.
  • When you subscribe or buy Bunny Ears TV+ Lifetime, the subscribe button moves to the bottom of the Settings screen to get out of the way.

Feature Recap

Some of these were added over the last couple of builds, and I haven't heard much about it. Recapping here incase you missed it. Try out the new functionality and share your thoughts!

  • Streaming Quality is Bunny Ears TV's take on transcoding and a number of new settings were added. There are 4 quality profiles you can customize. Cellular, 5G, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet. Wi-Fi and Ethernet disable transcoding so it behaves like the app does today. The goal is always on device playback because the difference in speed is noticeable, but cellular and 5G enable transcoding by default so Blu-ray remuxes stream smoothly when away from home. You're able to customize everything to fit your needs and network speeds.
  • There's also a simple Playback Reliability setting under Streaming Quality that allows you to easily adjust buffer and connection retry settings for better resiliency on unstable connections.
  • Ad Bumpers recently got a ton of new functionality. In addition to now supporting Playlists, Collections, and Libraries, you can also create multiple Ad Bumper groups and assign them to channel packages. This allows you to show kid friendly ads on family channels, and more adult themed ads on other channel packages. There's a lot of customization here, so share how it's working for you!
  • Every Profile has multiple settings that allow you to tailor the guide for who's watching. Select Content Restrictions, choose to allow or block unrated content, and even hide or show music channels per profile.
  • Audio Sync now detects offset more accurately. More of you should no longer require an audio offset at all, but if you do, there's a new UI that allows you to make adjustments in realtime to really dial in the offset. Smaller 10ms increments were added as well for even better accuracy.
  • There's a new Chapters button when in full-screen for media with chapters. Every chapter has a screenshot, and this new feature allows you to quickly jump to major sections in a movie or TV show.
  • Custom Channels now have more icons to choose from, perfect for Holiday channels, or whatever else you can think of.
  • The Settings screens in general received some TLC. I've reorganized some settings and worked to add more consistency between the screens.

Thank you all for your interest in and support of Bunny Ears TV! This build is only the beginning. Please share what you love, what is not working, and what you would like to see improved. I truly value your feedback and will continue using it to make the app better.

Have a great weekend and happy watching!

A few hiccups on Apple TV new beta build (1.11 build 3)

The new beta build on the Apple TV seems much better with the new audio sync. I noticed right away everything is perfectly in sync and I didn’t even have to use the new settings.

Ad bumpers work, but are a bit wonky on the guide. Some don’t show up, while some show up almost as full “shows” labeled as “Commercial Break”. (EDIT: Ignore this. I just realized I have some long commercials in my library, and that’s most likely why they are showing on the guide as such.)

The biggest hiccup for me is some channels aren’t working. When I go to them, the picture is frozen and the audio is playing, or the picture and audio are both frozen. Not quite sure what’s going on. I had the app installed from the App Store and installed the beta over it. So, I assumed maybe there was something weird with that, so I uninstalled and did a fresh install from Test Flight. Still have wonky channels.

Other than that, great app as usual!

Commercial breaks in Guide

Testing out the iPad version right now. So far it’s working pretty great. I love that it syncs right away because it’ll be easier to manage custom channels and what not right from my iPad or phone. One thing I noticed though is commercial breaks showing up in the guide (pictured). This is my first time using ad bumpers now that we can add a library as a source. It is suppose to show up like that?

Shortened programs in latest build

So with the latest update as noted, the guide no longer shows the incorrect runtime, however, the issue it self persists. The first image shows the U2 concert playing now with its correct run time of an hour and 36 minutes. However later today, it plays again only running an hour and 7 minutes. Below the U2 concert are three other movies that also shortened and not running their full run time. Is there any reason why it shortens this programs? I did a clean install of the app and did a refresh of guide and libraries.

On the plus side, I am seeing a bit more variety on the channels with stuff I haven’t seen from my library popping up.

Top Shelf Feature planned?

Hi,

loving the app you have created. Testing it since starting of the beta and bought lifetime once it has been released - really enjoy it!

Not sure if anybody already mentioned / asked for that feature or if it's even possible to implement, but I would like to have some kind of Top Shelf feature, e.g. that you already see a kind of preview or can directly open the favorite / last senders?

The "Top Shelf" on the Apple TV is for applications which are in the first row (yeeep, you already did it and Bunny Ears is within the first row on my ATV):

Thanks and keep up the great work.

1.11 Build 2 is out!

Good evening beta testers!

The latest Bunny Ears TV work is focused on making playback more reliable while building the foundation for iPhone and iPad support.

I’m going to keep future beta updates more concise and get to the highlights faster. Let me know if you prefer the longer format.

Here’s what’s improving:

  • Adaptive streaming quality for home, remote, cellular, and unstable connections. This is actually a huge shift from how Bunny Ears TV previously worked, but it's necessary for remote streaming.
  • Better Plex connection recovery when moving between networks. Similar to above, but it will also benefit home connections that are experiencing degradation.
  • Stronger Plex profiles and parental controls. Basically, settings that could circumvent channel controls are no longer visible for non admin Plex profiles.
  • Cleaner, easier-to-navigate Settings. Nothing groundbreaking, but definitely looking cleaner.
  • More reliable guide scheduling and channel building. NO MORE GUIDE SCHEDULE SIZE MISCALCULATIONS.
  • Smoother DVR seeking, scrubbing, and transcoded playback. This is mostly a transcoding issue, but scrubbing remotely should be much better (coming soon).
  • Plex chapter navigation for supported DVR content.
  • Separate subtitle and audio language preferences.
  • Improved bumper countdowns, guide previews, and menu actions.

A lot of this work happens behind the scenes, but it is helping Bunny Ears TV become more dependable today while preparing it to work consistently across Apple TV, iPhone, and iPad.

There is still more to build, but the foundation is getting stronger with every update, especially thanks to your feedback! Thank you to everyone testing, reporting bugs, and sharing feedback. Especially to those that speak up and share what's wrong (don't be afraid to share what's great too!). It continues to have a real impact on where the app goes next.

Pause Animation

I love the VHS filter when paused, I also think I’d be funny to have the old “DVD” screensaver that bounces around and never quite hits the corner. I dunno if that’d be a copyright issue, but maybe we could hook in a custom video when paused? This isn’t useful, just fun.

Bunny Ears TV 1.11 Build 1 Beta Is Here!

Version 1.11 build 1 is now available to beta testers with Plex profiles, parental controls, improved ad bumper breaks, audio calibration, external subtitles, and major reliability improvements.

Thank you to everyone who has tested Bunny Ears TV, reported bugs, and shared ideas. Your feedback directly shaped this release.

What’s New

Plex Home Profiles and Parental Controls

Bunny Ears TV now supports Plex profiles with a Who’s Watching screen.

You can select a profile at launch, switch from the guide, use Plex PIN protection, and keep settings synchronized for each profile. The active profile remains local to each device, so switching on one device will not interrupt another.

Profiles can also be limited to Little Kids, Older Kids, or Teens content, with additional controls for unrated content and music channels.

More Flexible Ad Bumper Breaks

You can now create bumper groups from Plex playlists, collections, or entire libraries.

Each group can be assigned to specific channel packages, with one to five clips per break. This now makes it possible to give different channels their own commercials.

Audio Sync Calibration

In addition to new audio syncing logic under the hood, I've added a new full-screen calibration tool that uses synchronized flashes and beeps to help correct audio that plays ahead of or behind the video.

Offsets can be adjusted from negative 1000 milliseconds to positive 2000 milliseconds, with changes applied immediately so you can easily make adjustments until the on-screen flash and beep align perfectly.

External Plex Subtitles

External Plex subtitles are now supported, including forced and SDH tracks.

More New Features

  • Choose between the classic TV static transition or a cleaner black change effect.
  • Music channels now create more balanced queues with better artist variety.
  • Subtitle preferences are remembered separately for each Plex server.

Guide and Scheduling Improvements

The guide received a major reliability pass.

  • Movies and episodes should no longer be shortened.
  • Programs and bumpers crossing midnight are scheduled correctly.
  • Guide extensions no longer lose the end of programs or bumpers.
  • Shuffled channels should avoid long runs of the same show.
  • Bumper and custom-channel changes regenerate the guide more reliably.

Syncing and Plex Improvements

  • Switching Plex accounts should no longer allow old account activity to affect the new one.
  • Empty or replacement iCloud accounts are handled correctly instead of being mixed with old local data.
  • Guide conflicts, missing data, interrupted deletions, and corrupted guides recover more safely.
  • Bunny Ears TV is better at recovering Plex connections and server tokens.
  • Plex Relay, HTTPS, Docker, private addresses, IPv4, IPv6, and plex.direct connections are handled more carefully.
  • Plex errors now provide clearer messages based on the actual problem.
  • Changed shows and albums refresh more reliably.

Playback and Stability Improvements

  • Audio synchronization now uses a more accurate system clock.
  • Canceling a library load should no longer leave the app stuck.
  • Incomplete onboarding returns to library selection.
  • Signing out now provides visible cleanup progress.
  • Expired Plex sign-in requests stop correctly.

Family Sharing Update

This build includes the correction needed for Family Sharing with lifetime purchases. Unfortunately, the fix cannot fully take effect until version 1.11 is released publicly.

I apologize for the mix-up, and I appreciate your patience while I get this corrected.

Thank You

Version 1.11 is a major foundation for what comes next, including the full Bunny Ears TV experience on iPhone and iPad!

Please keep reporting anything that feels confusing, inconsistent, or broken. Every report helps make the public release better.

Thank you for supporting Bunny Ears TV, and have a great week!

How to sign up lifetime while in trial/monthly?

I randomly tried this app out as a trial and absolutely fell in love with this app.

Enjoyed it so much that I’ve immediately join the Reddit community and want to upgrade to lifetime.

The lifetime option isn’t showing up for me - do I have to wait for the trial to be over before I can purchase this?
