Writing a romance book
I’m writing a romance about a 38-year-old African-American widow (FMC) and a 27-year-old Italian-American attorney (MMC). She’s a name partner with two kids and has been widowed for five years after losing her childhood sweetheart unexpectedly. She hasn’t felt romantic interest in anyone since his death.
The MMC comes from a wealthy legal dynasty and is a newly licensed attorney. He was cheated on in a long-term relationship and became a shameless playboy afterward. Then he meets her and is immediately, unapologetically obsessed. He’s not trying to “save” her or replace her late husband. He genuinely just falls hard and wants to become part of her life. What would make this work for you as a reader, and what would make you hate it?
