Common kings / La county fair

Common Kings is playing at the LA county fair this weekend. I saw that they had some BOGO 50% off tickets, but you need a code.

Anyone know the code?? Thanks in advance!

Sublime Fest Loses Another Headliner As the Interrupters Are the Latest to Bail

Sublime fest has updated their website and social media today with new posters showing former infowars contributors ‘the Interrupters’ have been replaced by Yelawolf. The festivals promoter Brewhaha hasnt commented on the artist replacement.

Cypress Hill dropped off this same show a month or so ago due to Sublime’s MAGA affiliation. While the interrupters reasoning is unknown, it’s unlikely to be political as they are well known in the ska scene for their right wing political affiliations .

ETA: the ataris have also dropped off of the Portland date as well.

Little Stranger and Friends on the beach

I was fortunate to have the opportunity to photograph these shows, and am just wrapping up the final edits from this weekend's two night run with Little Stranger headlining Friday and Saturday at the Windjammer on the Isle of Palms, in South Carolina.

Shwayze kicked it off on night one, with Surfer Girl opening up night two with special surprise guests, Damn Skippy, Appollo Valdez, and Loser Chris adding to the chaos and fun.

The Windjammer's NUTRL stage overlooks the ocean directly offering everyone an incredible view of the beach, the ocean, the occasional container ship, trawler, or band of pelicans as they cruise by.

Because it's Charleston, (the weather tends to change dramatically every ten minutes here) it's worth mentioning that we enjoyed some of the best, spring like weather you could imagine. Just enough sun, and a little breeze...

Here are the links to the galleries for FRI and SAT night respectively. As always, feedback is welcome!

If you'd like to see more of my work or keep up with the shenanigans, you are welcome to follow me @steveaycockphoto)

PEPPER SUPERFAN QUIZ update

We had a handful of folks cheat on the quiz. Since there is no way to determine the actual SUPERFAN who actually knew the answers, we'll have to pick from a hat or leave it up to Pepper.

We'll announce the winner in the next day or so. Sorry for any issues.

This was a mostly successful experiment though, and we may do this again if the software fixes IP detection!

The Quasi Kings - Beyond the Music

From kayaking and basketball to traveling and bar tending, Benny Coleman of The Quasi Kings shares some of the things he and his brother do beyond the music.

Shout-out to Benny for giving his time to talk with Highly Recommended before their first ever show in Kansas City 😎

Alright, I really need to talk about Shark Belly Motel

I was definitely looking forward to this album (the Elovaters are one of my favorites and Jackson has the voice of an angel) but of the 8 songs they had already previously released from the album, half of them I would say I only liked but didn't love. Now, I'm not being critical. I didn't dislike any of these songs. I loved and absolutely vibed with Sky High, Leave the Light On, Sunburn, and Bills to Pay. But I only kind of liked Jean Jacket, Staring at the Sun, Good Old Days, and Pockets Full of Sand.

So I was worried that maybe I'd feel that way about the rest of the album. That it would maybe be like every other song hit for me or something. Holy shit that couldn't be farther from the truth. I've had this thing on repeat since Friday and absolutely love it from front to back. Listening to the album in its entirety even has me appreciating the songs more that I didn't immediately vibe with when they were released as singles.

Seriously, might be their best work yet. Easily my favorite album in a while (from any artist).

Damn, I wish I was watching them at Red Rocks tonight...

Such an amazing show!

The Elovaters killed it! Just left Red Rocks. Mannnnnn, had so much fun. All the acts were amazing. Even the rain didn’t kill the mood.

Picking up some Ska records

I mainly collect Reggae and Metal + NIN on vinyl but recently started picking up some of my favorite indie Ska and Punk records I like every track on to support one of my favorite genre’s. I adore this band and label.

I prefer CDs overall, but ska and reggae lend themselves to vinyl soooo well.
