I feel sick to my stomach (i can’t stop bawling my eyes out)
As a person who has watched almost 400 dramas , It's been such a long time since I felt this way about the portrayal and cinematography/ screenplay about a drama . I don't even know where to start . The way the directors showed their unwavering love for each other and the emotional heartbreak is just so relatable to look at .
Especially in ep 20 when she lifts the call and he says "Please bless xi xiao with a life time of happiness and peace " 3 times , each time a different feeling expressed from the way he says it . That was just peak .
The moment they break up and LXX goes into a state of hopelessness acceptance, especially the scene where he dances in the fireworks imagining her being there was just such heartbreaking and devastating. On one side he's happily dancing with his love and on the other hand he is dancing alone and having a cathartic release . The contrast in both the scenes back to back was highlighting the tragic absurdity of his pain , and I feel like that was a perfect portrayal of how a person goes through these complex states of emotions and physical expressions where they lose a person they love till death , considering the fact that they went through so so much together that even normal couples can't even imagine going through that .
You might think it's dramatic but mind you they're teenagers and having such a deep bond while being the first relationship, I believe it isn't dramatic at all .I believe that's how a normal person would react imo . This kind of depiction was also shown in Lighter and Princess , when zhu yu goes through a phase of immense depression when li xun goes to jail , you just can't go on with your life in the same way and i believe many dramas don't show that , the leads just move on , distract themselves with work but people can't do that so instantly, it's hard for even them to get distracted, it's the weight of hopelessness has stripped the energy to even take a step, let alone move on . They're just trapped there not knowing what to do , not having the energy , hope to move forward. Imagine going through life and death with the person you can die for and having to leave them and having to accept the fact that u can't have them for God knows when , when u literally imagined your whole life with them .
They're both a bit toxic and have flaws but Like Kintsugi – the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold – their combined flaws make their relationship uniquely beautiful and stronger than ever.
Hands off to the direction, screenplay, cinematography and the leads too for conveying such tragic , beautiful portrayals of raw emotions.
And shoutout to Brian Cheng for Sunbrun , such an amazing ost .
Disclaimer: This is only my opinion and u can agree to disagree and I'm sry for any grammatical mistakes , english is not my first language.

As a beginner Chinese learner what dramas would you suggest me to watch ? Ony recommend really interesting ones or I am gonna drop it after watching few episodes . any genre woks but I prefer romance ones less
I’m somewhat new to CDramas and tend to be more drawn to costume dramas. I’ve watched some fantasies (Love Between Fairy and Devil, Love In the Clouds, Veil of Shadows), but nothing quite felt like this one.
I was looking for something with a similar vibe to this. I like the yearning, the deep lore and different worlds. I like a full cast that focuses on two main characters (as opposed to something like Veil of Shadows where it feels like everyone is a main character).
I am looking for dramas like Perfect and casual and Love 020 that have some scenes in university/college. It is not necessary the whole drama to be set in university/college, the drama just showing some scenes there is ok. Also, it is not necessary both leads to be in university/college, if one of them is a student and the other isn't is enough for me. Thank you in advance
I just started watching “Ashes to Crown” on Netflix, and I’m so torn right now.
On one hand, it is absolute eye candy. The production scale is huge, the CGI quality is top-notch, and the sets and costumes are just gorgeous. Not to mention, the male and female leads both have incredible, top-tier visuals. Visually, it’s such a treat to watch.
But on the other hand... as I got further into it, I started getting a bit disappointed. The love line feels like it's getting in the way of the main plot, and the acting sometimes feels a bit unnatural and stiff. It’s a little frustrating because the show has so much potential.
Did anyone else feel this way while watching? What are your honest thoughts? Does the plot or acting get better later on?
Spoilers obviously.
Maybe it was cuz I didn't really care about the old guys' backstories, wanted to see a lot more fighting and Changyu being a badass, the Marquis seemed to get weirdly unintelligent for a master strategist (falling into a predictable trap just to get the mains to finally fuck) or cuz every death and survival was so predictable. Right up until episode 35 it had me hooked. I wish Changyu had just saved Qian Qian, gone back to Lin'An and the Marquis sorted shit out in the capital. None of the plot twists were that twisty except for maybe why the mls mom yeeted herself off the census. Changyu didn't get many of her funny moments, the toxic love story's ending was so predictable and we didn't get much of the Pig Slaughtering gang. It felt like the drama forgot what it was for the ending and became just like every other palace intrigue politicy drama. No. I came here for a hilarious fl who's always saving the ml. An epic smart fighting ml who gets wounded all the time. And funny, compelling well rounded side characters. So yeah I'd absolutely recommend POJ. Except I'd suggest dropping it on episode 35 and come up with your own ending. It won't be rushed and you will probably come up with something truer to the characters we met and got to know than whatever they gave us there. Rant over
Did they actually start dating or was that part of the dream? I was lowk confused when watching that part on when the dream started 😞
