Hi there! I’m visiting in three weeks for work and was wondering how likely it is that I’ll be able to get an uber or Lyft ride to the airport at like 4:30 am? 😅

Hey people of Cedar Rapids. I’m moving there in about 3 weeks and I need a job. I’ve been looking since January and have had no luck but now that closing day is getting closer I’m in desperate need. The job market is so bad right now and I’m running out of time. If anyone knows anywhere for sure hiring or if your place of work is hiring please let me know!

I’m just trying to get some advice for my mother. She lives in a house converted into two apartments in NE CR. The property management company is “BRP rentals”. They have been AWFUL. Completely non responsive, left sitting water in basement multiple times despite work orders. Mold in basement due to that. Somehow the door that was “sealed” between the two apartments magically became unlocked and unsealed, leaving my mom completely open to her neighbors with no way to secure the door (who luckily are decent people). They took days to come solve that situation.

My mom got home the other day and there was a letter on her counter from someone at the company, stating they sold the house and she has until end of July to vacate. So without telling her anything, they just let themselves into the house to leave this, rather than in the mailbox or in their support portal that they insist tenants use. This sits so wrong with me. Is there anyone we can report this to or something we can do to at least hold these POS accountable for being creepy and unethical? Obviously I don’t have high expectations, and we’re more than happy to try to find her a new place. But this is stressful for her to now know they just let themselves in. How often are they doing that? If they hadn’t left a note, she’d never have known.

i’m going to be celebrating my 21st birthday with a small group of friends in cedar rapids this weekend and am looking for bar recommendations. we plan on checking out 2-3. we will be staying near the alliant energy powerhouse so anything within walking distance is ideal. we’re not from the area so literally any recommendations would be great.

I got laid off in the QC two weeks ago. I see all these CR jobs on Indeed and LinkedIn. But no bites at all. None.

It’s 12:47 trying to go to bed and me and my boyfriend’s WiFi went out is anyone else dealing with this issue?

Have you maybe considered not blasting oncoming traffic with a high intensity strobe light in the middle of the night? You're seriously worse than pickup trucks. This is gonna get someone killed

Just curious to see what employers are out there in the CR area with good health insurance benefits for a Family (Employee, Spouse, & 2 kids)? I'm sure it is probably mostly the large employers, government jobs, & Union jobs, but am curious as both of our jobs have health insurance, but are crazy expensive.

I have a 20 year old Honda, just want to take it somewhere and do an all-around maintenance check and test drive (check brakes, power steering, alignment, engine etc). Any good local places that do it and don’t f you over with prices too bad?

Just a heads up I saw some movie prop $100 bills blowing around the parking lot Casey's on the corner of Center Point and 32nd. Looks real at a distance but clearly says "Copy" and "Prop" on it. Tossed a couple but saw some more blowing in the wind. Hopefully nobody gets tricked by it.

I'm looking for minimalist running shoes but really want to physically try them on before buying. Ideally something like Vibram FiveFingers, Merrell Vapor Glove or Trail Glove, Xero shoes, Vivobarefoot - at this point I'd even settle for Altra Escalantes or other low-stack traditional trainers.

I've searched the online inventory of Browns, Iowa Running Company, Fitness Sports, Dicks, Scheels, Finish Line, SOKO, etc. and the closest thing I'm finding are Altra Escalantes at Iowa Running Company, but they have literally one size in stock per their website. Am I missing somewhere that could possibly carry these types of shoes?

EDIT - the Topo Sports ST5 is available locally, but reviews say that has aggressive arch support, which is a non-starter.

EDIT 2 - tried Iowa Running Company, Fitness Sports, and Browns. They are all able to order Escalantes for me, but of course I can do that myself. They had Altra Torins and Lone Peaks in stock, but those have double the stack height I really want. Besides Escalantes, Iowa Running Company had the next good option in the ST-5s (which they had in stock). Unfortunately, the reviews mentioning aggressive arch support are correct and it immediately felt like a blister waiting to happen.

Long story short, Escalantes would already be settling for something more cushioned than I want, and I can't even get those locally. If I'm going to have to go online just to get those then I may as well get Vapor Gloves, Trail Gloves, Xeros, or Lems. REI, here I come.

Alternatively, I may literally just find a pair of cross country spikes with a wide toe box and call it a day.

EDIT 3 - I found a gently used pair of Vapor Glove 4s in my size on eBay - the exact model I loved running in, just in a different color. Overnighted those and will hopefully get a few hundred miles out of them, giving me time to take a trip out to REI or somewhere else that actually sells the shoes I want and can try on in-person.

Any pickup soccer games especially on Thursdays?
