Traveling to Cedar Rapids for work tomorrow 7/6/2026. Any good places to watch the World Cup game?

I'm never invested in soccer, but something has changed. Id love to be out watching it instead of trying to stream it on my tablet in the hotel. Thanks in advance for the recommendations.

Allegiant Flight

How early should I get to the airport for an Allegiant flight that leaves at 10:00 PM? I can’t imagine I would need to follow the two hour rule?

Releaf concerns

ISA arborist, former contracted worker for ReLeaf

I wrote a report to the parks and rec director, requesting confidentially explicitly. Here is a summary of that report. DM if interested in the full PDF.

The report details serious concerns regarding the City of Cedar Rapids' management of Right-of-Way (ROW) tree planting since the City assumed direct responsibility for site assessment and species assignment in Fall 2024.

Violations of Planting & Utility Ordinances:

The City has repeatedly assigned trees to locations that conflict with utility infrastructure, including electric and telephone poles, ground-to-pole lines, and marked gas lines.

While City municipal code requires street trees to be shade trees (overstory or mid-canopy) unless overhead utilities prohibit it, these placement decisions often disregard safety buffers necessary for utility access and long-term tree health.

Regarding water utilities, the City has directed the Contractor to plant trees within 3 to 8.5 feet of water mains, directly contradicting previous standards that disqualified sites within 10 feet of such infrastructure.

Species Selection & Mortality:

The City’s mandate to plant a wide array of non-native and non-endemic species has led to a sharp increase in 2-year tree mortality, which has climbed to approximately 15% in recent seasons.

The selection process frequently ignores the "Right Tree, Right Place" principle established in the "ReLeaf" plan, such as assigning understory species to shade tree locations and ignoring species' specific climate and soil requirements.

Data & GIS Mismanagement:

The City lacks a functional, standardized method for tracking tree health, leading to reliance on outdated, inaccurate spreadsheets.

The administrative practice of deleting data points for dead or removed trees results in permanent data loss, preventing the City from accurately assessing long-term survival rates or identifying recurring site-suitability issues.

In summary, the document asserts that the City’s current management practices violate established planning principles and increase both maintenance liabilities and environmental risks for the community.

Note: According to Cedar Rapids Municipal Code and utility guidelines, trees must generally be selected based on site conditions, and proximity to electrical infrastructure is restricted to ensure safety and system reliability.

Hi,
we’re four guys, and we’ve put together Westminster’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota. The concept is simple: you see two places side by side (for example Famille vs. Kachina Southwestern Grill), you choose the place you’d rather go to, and the ranking updates instantly. The more people vote, the more accurate the list gets over time. There are still a few duplicates here and there, but I’m continuously cleaning up the data.

Here’s the iPhone version, with categories that actually fit Westminster’s food scene:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota-restaurant-ratings/id6744969212

And here’s the Android version (finally live):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

P.S. I’m not from Westminster (I live in Gothenburg). I’m not collecting data, not selling anything, and the app does not use AI-generated content. I’m posting in a few different subreddits because we now support more regions, and I genuinely want honest feedback from people who actually know the area.

Credit unions that do cash deposits?

Just recently moved to town. Looking for a place that has a machine in like their drive thru where you can insert your card and then do direct cash deposits onto that card. Preferably places where you can do this without having an account with that particular institution. Like an ATM.

I only ask because I have some cash on hand I need to put on my personal card but my credit union is several hours away.

Thanks

Firework vendors... How much do you net?

I easily spent 300 bucks on fireworks just in the last couple of days and that's child's play considering others. I'm genuinely curious how much you guys make off of these tents.

ebike repair?

Anybody know a good place to go to get the back cable of a Radwagon repaired? It's completely frayed and wrecked, but I can't figure out the right cable to replace it.

The people selling these houses are loonies, and I’d have to say the people buying them are bigger loonies…

Sucks that all of this stuff is propped up thanks to the upper middle class

Salute to the Fallen SUV

Was just driving in to SW Cedar Rapids and got the daylights startled out of me when a SUV that *looked* like a police suv got behind me.

I looked up the slogan and it's a nonprofit charity for veterans.

I'm just ticked off that they dolled up their vehicle to look like a police cruiser, black body with patriotic decals on the front back and sides exactly where police markings are.

And topped off with a light bar on top.

Edit: guys. Startled. As in "suddenly unexpected thing happens and you jump." Not fear.

Recommendation for mechanics?

I have a 03 Mustang with a wire on the brake pedal that when it comes loose the brake lights stop working and I can't engage the shifter. And the driver side window stops working when the weather gets hot. An interior door panel also has a snapped tab so it doesn't stay in place, causing my window controls to fall into the door. I've been to Brakes Plus and they said they don't do that kind of wiring.

Is there some kind of paid DD here?

I was thinking about going out and have bad luck with Uber/Lyft availability and consistency as well as the local taxi service. Does anyone know of some kind of paid, I’ll be your designated driver for the night kinda service in town? If interested, post in here and I’ll private message you to discus rates and all that.

Edit: This would be for tonight, if you don’t have a car but do have a license, could use our car. Would also want/need a phone number if we made a deal.

Arona home essentials.

Anybody ever rent from Arona? I rent from them and have been having issues with them parking outside my house every single day even when I'm not late or behind on payments. Has anybody else who's rented from them experienced this? Can I do anything about this? It's getting creepy.
