On the website it shows that orientation runs through multiple days but some of it doesn't seem necessary. As a commuter, which days are necessary to attend? And is it not including the family orientation day?
I'm majoring in Creative Producing, but I'm not really interested in becoming a filmmaker. I'm much more interested in the business side of entertainment, especially TV/film development, distribution, acquisitions, production companies, studios, and eventually working in an executive role. I'm considering adding Business and/or Communications if I can, and eventually getting an MBA. For current students/alumni or people who work in the industry, how good is Dodge for getting into these areas? Does the Creative Producing program actually give you opportunities to get internships and connections in development and distribution, or is it mostly geared toward people who want to produce/make things themselves? Would you recommend Creative Producing for someone with these goals? And if you went to Dodge, did you feel like the network actually helped you get into the industry? I'd especially like to hear from people who went into development, distribution, studios, networks, or the business side of entertainment rather than filmmaking. If all else fails, there's still time to try to transfer, but my freshman GPA is 3.6 so its unlikely
Hi guys, I’m a transfer student so I’m not really sure how things work at Chapman.
At my last school, we’d get a list of our course materials l, but then during the first week of class the professor would clarify if we actually needed the textbooks or not, and if they were gonna provide a free pdf themselves.
So at Chapman how does it work? Should I hold off to order the textbooks listed, or should I just get them all now?

It's kind of like Strava but for the gym. You can log workouts, track progress over time, build custom exercises and templates, and share progress with friends on the app.

“Pros:
Slower pace of work compared to non-higher education industries. Campus is fairly clean, built in the middle of Orange, many can appreciate the feel of working within an old town city.
Cons:
No remote work. Not allowed to work remotely when at a conference. Strict with that policy, and unforgiving. UCs and Cal States and other peer institutions offer hybrid and remote work.
Lots of turnover at all levels. Happening all over campus: New leadership comes in and restructures their department, resulting in the firing and layoffs of existing employees, only to bring in employees from their previous company.
Many new leaders are from Colorado University. There are Executive Vice Presidents, Deputy Vice Presidents, Senior Vice Presidents, Vice Presidents, and Associate Vice Presidents all for the Colorado University folks and their friends. That structure doesn't exist at the lower levels. Their pay is well above 300-400k, yet the university has been in a budget crisis and restriction for years. Rumor, looking to be true, there's an initiative to cut costs by laying off employees through return to office mandates, and constant reorgs/restructures.
Suspicious activity - used a hiring agency to bring in candidates for the COO position, none was hired. The interim COO left right before the interviews started. Says a lot there.
Lack of transparency under the new President and regime. Return to office was announced by the COO who was leaving the university the next week lol. No updates on leadership hirings, changes, or plans. News and updates are found through the gossip and rumor grapevine.
Firings and layoffs - the university will use this as their first option against an employee. Leadership doesn't like you just because? Fired. Doing okay/average work? Fired. Not a yes sir/ma'am? Fired. The marketing and communications department has fired 28 of its 30 original employees in 2 years since the new leadership from Colorado has started.
Pay - below market rate. Annual merit increases are only 1-3% unless you're in leadership or a favorite of a senior leader. No cost-of-living increases. Your VP or Senior VP determines your merit increase, not your direct supervisor.
Promotions - very rare to happen. Friends of leaders will be hired before they promote internally.
Benefits - okay medical insurance. Vision insurance is bad. The cost to employees on insurance is rising every year now. Merit increases barely cover the increases.
Parking - you'll have to walk 10-15 minutes to your office if you don't park before the students start class. Leave for lunch and your parking spot is gone for the rest of the day. If you're driving between 7:30A and 5:30P, it will take you 2-3 times the normal amount of time to drive through to where you need to go. Students cross the streets and don't care to stop for cars. Insufficient electric vehicle charging - university refuses to build more chargers. They demand everyone to come back to the office, yet don't offer support for people who have to travel 1.5-2+ hours one-way to the office. Culture - has gone from an education-driven industry to a corporate environment. Employees are unhappy across campus. Large groups are unhappy. Many are scared that they'll be laid off or fired. Many are unhappy with how things are being run right now.
Diversity and Inclusion - Not really diverse. Conservative, far-right-minded leadership.
Office - there are so many people back in the office that even with the A/C running, it's still warm. The office assistants are ordering fans off Amazon.
TL;DR: The 4.2 rating is propped up by reviews from students who work at Chapman through federal work study (anything with research, student, graduate in their title are probably student employees). If you were to filter this to actual full-time employees, this rating would drop significantly. If you want to work in higher education, go to a Cal State or UC school. Higher pay, better benefits, remote and hybrid work schedules, unions, etc. Culture is bad. Morale is just as bad if not worse.
Advice to Management:
Management won't read this, and if they do, they'll retaliate somehow. They're corporate lawyers turning Chapman into a corporate company. If you're going to keep using the phrase "we're family" maybe treat it as such and not as the typical punchline and meme for every other workplace.”

Chapman students, are we ready for what's coming on August 3?
The new return-to-campus policy isn't just going to affect staff—it could have a huge impact on students too.
Parking at Chapman University is already a struggle. Now, with more employees being required to work on campus every day, where are all those extra cars supposed to go?
That means:
Even fewer student parking spaces.
More students circling campus trying to find parking.
More cars spilling into surrounding neighborhoods.
More parking tickets and towing.
More frustration for students and local residents.
The biggest question is: Was the impact on students ever considered?
If hybrid work has been successful for many staff, why move away from it without a clear plan to protect student access to campus?
Students pay thousands of dollars in tuition. We shouldn't have to compete for parking because of a policy change that didn't account for the student experience.
This isn't about being against working on campus. It's about making decisions that consider everyone—including the students the university is supposed to put first.
Chapman University students deserve answers before We return to campus, not after campus parking becomes an even bigger problem.
If you're a student who's worried about parking this semester, share your experience. The more voices that speak up, the harder this issue is to ignore.
I’m currently planning to apply for Chapman’s Fall 2027 semester(as a transfer) and applications will be opening soon, but I still want to be prepared.
One of my biggest fears atm is the tuition and housing costs. I’ll be responsible over the entire costs and one thing I always hear is how expensive it is. How did you deal with the costs if you paid on your own and how much did you end up needing to pay? What scholarships did you get offered by Chapman and what scholarships did you apply to outside of Chapman that made paying it less stressful?
Anything is helpful and Chapman is my #1 school I plan on going to ^^
If there is an issue leading up to move in where the roommates can’t see eye to eye on the rules when does housing intervene?
hi all— I’m an incoming transfer student from some pretty chilly places (I split my time between northern new england & the PNW) and I’m frankly a little scared about the weather adjustment. I’m very used to 40-60 degree days most of the year and it was almost unbearably hot when I visited in May. do yall have any advice or suggestions about how to beat the heat? or maybe just reassurances that it won’t be that hot all the time? 😭
hey yall , i’ve exhausted chapmans financial aid to the point where they gave me a big grant but i need more id be paying 60k out of pocket or loans for the next 2 years which is not doable. im apart of dodge idk what to do.. is there even a sugar daddy in town ! something i am not sure what to do !!
