New to NZ and looking at buying in Chch.

It seems there is a desperate shortage of affordable homes in Chch.

There’s loads on the market, but are a lot of them over priced?

We are seeing some homes that we estimate are $100k over value, but the vendors refuse to negotiate. Sitting there for months on end without considering offers.

Some houses being passed in at auction and still they won’t take offers.

Is that optimism or do these sellers know something we don’t?

I went to the Margaret Mahy park this morning with my young kids. I am also heavily pregnant and suffering from a lot of pelvic pain, which limits me from walking very far.

I was very disappointed to see that the carpark right next to the playground was entirely full. This was not because of the number of families parking there, but because there were so many tradies vehicles parked in it (due to construction nearby).

I feel that this 120 minute free carpark should be for families with small children using the Margaret Mahy playground, not clogged up with tradies who are taking the parking spaces families need to use. There were mums with babies in the car driving round looking fruitlessly for an empty park while I was there, parking, after I actually asked a tradie nearby to move his truck.

Surely the managers overseeing the construction can figure out alternative parking for their tradies?

I am not normally a complainer but I don't know how to make this happen. Does anyone know who to contact?

Or am I overreacting and tradies should park in that carpark, leaving the families with young kids to find elsewhere to park and then walk in?

Be aware new Kmart king sheet sizes have changed to Australian sizes (180cm wide) which are too big for NZ sizes (167cm wide)

The have just recently changed the size of the fitted bottom sheets, and now are too big for new zealand sizing. They may have also changed the size for other beds sizes too.

They still advertise as king bed size but in store they try to get out of returning it by saying that they have the dimensions printed on the label, but how many people actually know what their bed actually measures at?

You'd think that something advertised as a king and sold in NZ would have be standard NZ size.

does anyone know why they changed all the aisles? i know the supermarket is getting a makeover but changing where items are doesn't make any sense.

Please if you do come across a Cockatiel local to one of these areas give me a call, thanks to my housemate not following explicit instructions my bird got out yesterday 19/08th at 2.30pm, I am very ill and to be quite frank Ziggy who is the Grey and white variety of Cockatiel with a yellow corella and orange dots on his cheeks is my only reason for getting up each day,

One specific identifier although not obvious is he has one rear toe on one claw which is non functional.

With the cost of food being so high at the moment, I'm trying to shop around different stores to make the most of our money instead of just buying all our food/groceries at the supermarket.

That being said, does anyone have any recommendations of great-value factory type shops in Chch?

Ive been looking for a good burger for a while ive been to Heaps of shops some well known others not as well but i can confidently say that fried chicken in addington have some of if not the best chicken burgers ive ever tasted

Hi fellow swimmers! I took the leap and decided to not be so fearful of the parking trolls down at the new complex. However they still got me. I used the machine next to the main desk inside and entered our plate number. Next minute we get the letter with the $75 fine which I have emailed them with an appeal. I just sent it to admin@stellar.org.nz .

Next time should I feel brave enough to try again, should I just use the app on the phone and the qr code? Are others still having any problems? Its just annoying as I tried pretty hard and now feel like just swimming somewhere else next time. No other pools have this problem.

I literally have waiting months to visit, thinking it was 'technical' glitches with a new system, but must be more to it than that.

It's so windy today!!! I've been in Christchurch for just over a year now, and the weather has been very unpleasant. Before I moved, people said Christchurch's weather is like Hastings and Nelson's... it's not. I miss Hastings' weather 😭

Have been to the doctor so many times for my ECZEMA, and asked for a referral but been turned down so many times, they obviously don’t care/just want my money.
