For those of you who let your dogs rush up to other dogs, what goes on in your mind while this is happening? I’m trying to understand why you think it’s ok. There are definitely plenty of idiots out there who don’t care, but many people seam to be genuinely somewhat sorry when they come over to grab their dog, the situations that happen with me and my dog usually play out like this-

Dog appears, dog rushes over sometimes barking and growling, owner keeps approaching going “no come on bella, COME ON”, my dog proceeds to act in distress, the owner eventually comes over to help move their dog along as goes, “oh sorry, sorry, sorry!!” then as they walk off they usually go to their dog “no don’t do that bla bla bla” yet they don’t leash the dog..?

My thoughts are- how can you know your dog does this very rude and pushy behavior, while also genuinely apologizing, yet still let them off leash?

There is a HUGE difference between a dog rushing another dog and two dogs doing a quick calm hi as they cross paths.

Hi there, just a student planning to move into a flat soon. Started looking at items at ecoshop and was wondering how to go on about buying stuff from there? I know there's a lot of broken stuff that needs to get repaired but if they know someone who can come fix it or maybe something is deemed "broken" because it just didnt pass the whole testing thing surely its still an ok option? What are some things I should definitely not buy from there, some things I should buy with caution and some things that are exceptions or have some workaround? Would like some advice on how much I can actually trust the shop and if there's any tips or people at the store even that can help me make the most it :)

Look, Woolworths has never been my favourite. I was however excited for the new Woolies in Halswell, something is definitely needed to give the 2 New Worlds competition
Unfortunately disappointed. Very small meat section and some items appeared to have prices and others didn’t, I’m assuming the QR code on the meat packaging will give you the pricing but who can be bothered with that?
Pricing seemed very high for a first week opening, overall feel while nice and new was just meh?
Be thing I thought would be handy is the pharmacy that tends to be apart of woolies… nope!
Potentially good for online shopping but can’t see myself going through the trouble of learning the layout for no difference in cost. Hopefully the rumoured Pak N Save is better

27M from Scotland, recently arrived in Christchurch on a Working Holiday Visa. I will be here for at least 4-5 months, hopefully longer.

I've been in contact with a cricket club and hopefully that goes well over the coming weeks, but I'd ideally like to get involved in at least 2 more clubs/activities regularly and meet people along the way.

I'm into football/soccer, hiking, the outdoors, and taking part in various activities. I'm also open to trying sports and hobbies I've never done before.

Is the Christchurch Tramping Club good? Easy enough for new members to get involved? Or would there be better options?

Once I am settled in a rental, I'll be looking to buy a road bike. It seems to be the best form of transport for me around the city alongside buses - and faster too. The only problem is, I have never been cycling on roads before and haven't cycled in years - so if anyone was willing to show me the ropes, that would be very much appreciated.

I'm not really into drinking/partying, so I'm ideally looking for social activities that don't revolve around that.

Any recommendations for good clubs, groups or activities for someone new to Christchurch?

EDIT: I'm happy to pick-up anywhere from Avonhead to St Martins as I have to travel across town tomorrow so can collect on my way. I'm hoping if a few people have extras to give away, they can list their suburb for other people to also be able to connect.

Had an EEG appointment and was canceled the day before the appointment due to it being broken. Month later I rang back and it’s apparently still broken with no idea when it’s going to be repaired. Are they fucking with me or are things that dire?

Hi everyone! I’m a little embarrassed about my situation, but I’m hoping someone here might have some advice or know where I could start.

I’m 20 and have lived here my whole life. I’ve been applying for jobs pretty consistently, but I’m really struggling to find work at the moment, and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

One thing I’ve started noticing is that a lot of people my age seem to get jobs through friends, family, or just knowing people who can point them in the right direction. Unfortunately, I don’t really have much of a network like that, so I’m finding it difficult to know where to start.

I also don’t have much structure or routine in my days right now, and I’d really like to change that rather than just sitting at home applying for jobs over and over. I’ve looked into a few volunteer positions online, but I’m not really sure how you’re supposed to go about getting involved or whether it’s better to contact places directly.

So I guess I’m wondering:

Are there any places around here that are particularly good for volunteering?

Are there organisations that regularly take on volunteers?

Is it worth approaching places directly even if they aren’t advertising volunteer positions?

Does anyone have any personal experience with volunteering that helped them meet people, gain experience, or eventually find work?

I’d genuinely love the opportunity to get out of the house, meet some people, contribute to the community, and build some structure and experience into my days while I’m looking for work.

As the title says, is the Nathan Fielder documentary You can see everything showing at any Christchurch cinemas?

Edit: meaning from the release date of mid Oct. Also, the cinema at the Tannery have already told me they don't plan to show it.

Wanting to do some hill sprint training, other than the port hills , are their any places in/around the town suitable for this!? I.e 30ish metres of decent incline.

Does anyone know of any big empty parks/paddocks on the out skirts of chch? I’m trying to find some locations where I can have a nice quiet walk with my dog, where he can also run around and not be bothered by other dogs. I know a lot of people recommend the red zone, but I haven’t had good experiences there. So if anyone knows of any secret locations that aren’t to well know, let me know!

40s male going back to study next year.

As a mature student how are you supplementing income while studying? New course is Mon to Wed just looking for some ideas of avenues for work.

Plans are to find something in the industry im studying but if that doesn't work, I need to look outside my usual skill sets.
