struggling to find a place to rent (rant incoming)
i (student, 21f) and my boyfriend (working, 21m) cannot for the life of us find a place to rent in Cheltenham. we want to stick close to Cheltenham as we will be starting our new job/uni at the beginning of sept. we had 5 viewings booked for today, and 4 of them were cancelled. we feel that it is utterly impossible for us. we have a guarantor, this is our first time renting and when we WERE able to get a viewing previously, we were competing with 30+ individuals which makes us feel even more hopeless because of course someone on that great list has more history with renting than us. we are looking at max 1100pcm. we have the savings. all the agents we speak to do not communicate effectively, we've experienced some rude ones too! random cancellations on viewings last moment, some of which did not even have the decency to tell us (we found out by the sudden removal of the listing online).
i honestly dont know what to think anymore, we have been at this for over a month now, and we are frustrated to say the least. we even tried the openrent route, only to be ghosted. we live 2 hours away from Cheltenham, and my partner works full-time so finding the opportunity to go to viewings during the week cuts us down alot. we are trying to arrange some that i can attend on his behalf too, of course.
any advice is appreciated, this was honestly just a huge rant to get it all of my chest because omg!! lol
Where are the estate agents?
Hi all!
Due to our jobs myself and my partner are moving to your lovely town in a month!
However I'm really struggling to get any viewings or any engagement at all from estate agents. I've called around 6/7 over the last week and left messages and only one agents gotten back. I've also sent emails and enquiries and nothing!
Starting to get a bit worried, all of the properties are new to the market and well within our budget and we are ready to make offers and get moved in (rental).
Can anyone offer any advice or any letting agents here that might be able to help?
I'll be in town most of next week, would it be best to just walk into estate offices and ask in person? Thanks!
Art Union is roughly where the street sign is. The Odeon looks great in this photo we found
We love our town
We really love the centre of Cheltenham, and were thrilled when our little art gallery got mentioned on a couple of posts about Cheltenham independent shops.
Art Union is run by Tracey, assisted on the weekends by Tom. Like all small businesses we do a bit of everything, so finally got round to setting up a business account on Reddit - it's only taken us two years!
Who remembers the Odeon? Here is a picture of it we found. Our shop is roughly where one of the posters would have been
Somewhere to run with my dog off lead
Bit of a niche one here, but I'm currently training for the Cheltenham half and was wondering if anyone had any tips for where I can run (ideally paved, flat and away from traffic) with my dog off lead. I've done this down in Bath before by the canal, but was wondering whether there was somewhere similar local?
Single bedroom flat for rent at the centre of Cheltenham for £650 a month. If you move in at the end of August, I will leave you my furniture.
I made a mistake with my rental agreement: I thought I was supposed to give the landlord a one month notice, but as it turns out it was two months.
If anyone here is looking for a single bedroom flat with no shared space (besides the stairs to get to it), one bathroom, a kitchen and a studio/dinning area, I am leaving mine on the 27th of August.
I can get in touch with you, share pictures/videos of the flat, arrange visits (I am available also on Saturdays and Sundays) and then I can direct you to the renting agency if you want to become the new tenant.
IF YOU MOVE IN ON AUGUST 27, or at least you start your tenancy agreement on that day, I will leave you my furniture.
The flat comes only with white goods and a closet, so you'd have to buy everything else.
I can leave you:
- My bed (mattress and frame).
- My desk
- My chair (with wheels, wheeeee)
- My drying rack
- My espresso machine
Let me know who's interested, folks. You'd be saving me from a big pickle and get some goodies out of it too 😄 .
Basketball communities/teams in Cheltenham
Hi! I've just moved to Cheltenham from Bristol and been loving it so far! Used to part of a group in Bristol that organized regular basketball runs through the week. Was hoping to see if there were any similar ones here or even a local team I can play/tryout for? Would be a massive help if anyone could let me know. Thanks!
Sad prediction for Cheltenham town centre.
Anyone who lives in nam and has been "into town" must notice the decline of shops in town. I spoken to a few people recently and nearly everyone agrees they don't like town any more. John Lewis is up for sale. It's sad but how long before Cheltenham becomes a ghost town? I don't know the solution. Well I do free parking would be a start.
Edit - i am sorry on the misinformation on JL. I am fully aware of my mistake.
Sweet Shops?
I've just walked on the High Street and seen that Jessica's Sweets has closed. I am gutted, I love a pick n mix. Is there anywhere else in Cheltenham to get one? Apart from Poundland...
Cheers
Alstone Croft playing field
Is it open to the public? Or a school playing field? Thanks
Any CB radio activity?
Hi, i live in Gloucestershire hence I’m posting, but I want to try and find contacts around my area. Does anyone here use cb radios still? Or know anyone that does? Thanks
Van hire
Any recommendations for van hire (one day) in Cheltenham please? Need to deliver some 8 foot boards. Thank you!
Butchers
Anyone got a recommendation for a good quality, reasonably priced butchers around Cheltenham? Supermarkets are so expensive these days anyway so figured may as well start supporting something independent.
Dissertation Survey: Parks in Cheltenham
Hello all,
I was wondering if any locals would like to fill out a survey about their experience in one of the local parks (Sandford, Pitville, and Montpellier Gardens). Or if you’d consider when visiting one of them. It only takes a few minutes and would really help me out!
I appreciate it!
Gails
I am a big fan of our independent bakeries - like Artisan bakery and My Pastalicious - and I was curious if the Gails would be tough competition for them. My first impression was - having had one cake and a coffee - that the staff are excellent, the coffee ok, the cake selection good: but the ambience inside was far too loud and cafeteria-like, and the seating too uncomfortable to be enjoyable. So I think they are safe.
Too Faced makeup
Hi,
Is there a Too Faced counter at John Lewis?
Thanks!
Walking to Dunkertons
I have some friends visiting, I was wondering if anyone knew of a route to walk to Dunkertons from the centre of Cheltenham that doesn't involve just walking along the A40? Is there a nicer, scenic back route?
Looking for dog sitter recommendations. Either at their home or ours with overnight stays. Anyone people recommend? Full time sitting would be needed as he can’t be left alone due to separation anxiety.
reddit.comAccident on p e way.
There is what looks like a big old collision being actively recovered on princess Elizabeth way (outside Scott house.) seems at 10:15 or there abouts. Entire roads cut off.
