1957 GMC 100

not sure if this is the exact sub Reddit to post in. I'm looking to do a frame off restoration of my 1957 GMC 100 pickup. I don't know where to start. I've never had or built a project before. possibly someone here could help? I have a 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500 with the hybrid Vortec 5.3 L (4L60E trans) to drop into it. here are a couple pictures. I have more videos and other things available as well if needed just looking for some direction and possibly somebody to do the work in DFW area.

I've never rebuilt a transmission. Decided to take a crack at it on the 5-speed out of my C-10

Transmission is a Richmond 5-speed (doug nash 4+1). Synchros were worn out so I upgraded to better forged bronze ones (synchros are the same as the super-t10 4-speed but better material). The input shaft bearing was also shot and needed to be replaced so I did both front and rear while I was in there. Hardest part of the whole ordeal was getting the snap rings holding the synchro hubs off. Took two people, a gnarly set of snap ring pliers, and some sore ass hands but it finally gave up.

Just got done driving it over an hour and it shifts great and would totally encourage anyone to give this a try. It was actually pretty straightforward job and didn't need any crazy tools or a press only a bearing separator kit and some decent snap-ring pliers. Oh and some swearing... Maybe a lot of swearing 😆

Gonna go drive the shit out of this thing now 🤘

Guys I’m so happy

I was expecting to do very little to get it running better when you all told me it sounded like shit… I ended up doing the camshaft and lifters, a valve and rocker, valve seals and all relevant gaskets!

I’ve never done literally any of this before so when it fired on the first crank to breakin the cam I couldn’t believe my ears!

Thank you all for your encouragement, there’s a ton left to do but now I have the will to do it

Road trip advice with a 1967 c10

I'm planning on driving my c10 from San Diego to Wisconsin mid July to my uncles cabin. I just replaced the radiator, new upper and lower control arms with disc brake conversion, new shock all around. I'm planning on replacing bushings as well. But I'm wondering what else I should be looking into to make the trip more comfortable and smooth. I have a stock 283 with a 4 on the floor transmission with the first gear being pretty much useless unless I'm ripping tree stumps out of the ground. The top highway speed is like 65 at 2700 rpm.
I'm thinking maybe a better transmission with gear ratios. But anyway and advice would be helpful.

1980 c10, U Joint help

Hi all, trying to figure out what im doing wrong. Replacing a U Joing for the first time. Rear u joint was cooked. Removed the drive shaft, put in the the new u joint, put in 2 snap rings, but when I went to reconnect the the drive shaft, there doesn't seem to be a place to put the other 2 snap rings.

Do I need the clips that go on the inside?

Exhaust options?

Hi again, here is my 64 c10 with a 350. Anyone know of a cheap simple exhaust option? No exhaust in this smells way too strong in the cab. Want something that can go out back. I’m new to cars so I don’t know where to start or what would fit this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

1972 k10 small block v8 what is this clicking sound?

What is this clicking sound? Noticed it today. When the truck accelerates the clicking becomes faster! I don’t notice anything else besides the clicking, it runs fine. Not sure if this is something to get looked at or if it’s a simple fix.

What’s the most common nickname for the 1967-72 Chevy trucks?

I looked it up on google what the most common nickname is for these trucks and it said Action Line, I know Action Line was the marketing name for the 1967-72 C/K series it’s pretty obvious that the 1973-87 trucks are nicknamed “Square Body” trying to figure out what were the 1967-72 trucks nicknamed.

Previous Owner Installed Cam But Never Started Engine

I recently bought a project C20. The previous owner was an older gentleman who had lost interest in the truck, and the project sat for years.

He says he installed a comp cams high energy 268H into an otherwise stock 350 out of a ‘78 K10. It’s my understanding that the engine never ran after he installed the cam.

So, after it’s sat all this time, and there’s a lot of unknowns, what should my process be regarding breaking in the cam? I’d prefer to avoid catastrophic engine failure, but I’m also reluctant to tear everything back down to inspect the cam.

I appreciate any insights.
