Here it comes!
Which Chromebooks will get Aluminium OS, and when is the first test build?
I've got so excited 🤩 and switched to the Chrome OS dev channel in hope that I will get to test it soon.
I’m looking for something that I can sync across devices, easy to use and good for adding pictures, highlighting and adding folders.
Previously used One Note but im finding it hard to adjust to on Chromebook with making folders. (As in I can’t create any large folders to hold sections)
I'd like to know why the system is taking up 2.41 gb. I thought chrome os was ment to be optimized and you know work on hardware a kin of a phone. why is it using a shit load of data? why do I have 413kb free this is bs man.
Some keys on my Chromebook keyboard aren't working, it's five years old. I've tried a bunch of things, is it worth repairing? Should I just buy a new one?
Chromebook randomly started doing this while i was using it on my lap, restarting did absolutely nothing now im not sure how to proceed with it acting like this. Everything else works other than the screen as shown
It’s a Lenovo 500e 2nd gen
I'd like to buy a portable Chromebook for internet browsing, writing, watching series, listening to piano music, and taking music lessons via video calls—and nothing else. The audio and video quality must be high, but I also don't want to spend a lot. Since I don't know anything about hardware, what do you recommend? Specifically, which processor, speed, and cores? And what other features?
For older people: For DOS there used to be a file management utility called Norton Commander, it was very popular. Also Xtree Gold. When Windows became popular Winfile was relatively awful, it still is in many ways.
Will Files and Drive be improved? And will they be more closely aligned with each other ?
I am just curious because I just want the apps back, and it has been a couple weeks,
I'm using a Chromebook, and chrome browser is not loading any sites. I've cleared the cache, cookies, and browser history. I made sure everything is up to date. I found a thread from a few years ago, about going into chrome flags, and disabling TSL 1.3...looked for it didn't see that. I did a power wash, the chrome browser still will not load anything. I've checked my Internet, speed test on all other devices are perfect.
This is so frustrating, please does anyone know how to get chrome to load any web site?
So whatever the latest Chrome OS update is for my Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 714, it sure is taking a while. About 15 minutes, so far. I will definitely heed the scary warning and wait it out. Anyone have any idea what's going on here or have an ETA for how long this takes?
I don't recall what version of Chrome OS I had on this, but I use this machine everyday and generally keep it up to date so I don't think I'm behind more than one update.
Given the wait, I sure hope I'm getting some really good new chromos or maybe even Aluminum features.
I used it perfectly fine yesterday to do some work as I usually do, and then this afternoon when I turned it on it presented me with a button that said "sign in" instead of the usual password box. I thought that that was kinda odd but it was the only option on the screen so I clicked on it, and it made me fill in all of this information about setting a password for the chromebook etc, and then when I got into the chromebook all of my apps and files were completely gone. I'm really annoyed because I had a lot of important work files on it and now it's all just gone, it's even somehow been deleted from the drive. I don't know why this has happened and just wondered if anyone knows why it might have happened.
I have been using Kinemaster on my Chromebook Plus to edit videos for a few months now, and I am really satisfied. After trying several other apps and web-based solutions, this one has remained the best. It is packed with features and is more than usable even without paying for a subscription. The other solutions I tried all have major limitations in their free versions. Kinemaster is almost a professional tool, and I haven’t found anything better for Chromebook. Has anyone else tried it? What are your thoughts? Would you suggest any other tool that is better than Kinemaster? However, I also have a concern: Kinemaster is essentially a mobile app, and I worry that for some reason—perhaps an update or developer choices—it might suddenly stop working on Chromebooks out of nowhere. Do you think this is an unfounded fear? Thanks!
I can't explain it any better than that. I'll be in a tab when a random meow or a cricket chirp goes off. Anybody else have this happen? I've scowered the settings and can't find an answer. Thanks to anyone who replies, your help is appreciated!
Hi, I'm looking for a USB C hub with HDMI and USB A ports that work flawlessly with Lenovo IP Slim 3 14M868.
Hi, hoping someone can help me with a printer/Chromebook problem.
I have a Canon PIXMA MG2551S and I'm trying to use it with my Chromebook via USB.
The printer itself turns on and takes the paper, but I'm having problems getting it to actually print. The paper feeds through but comes out blank.
The bigger problem is getting the Chromebook to recognise it properly. When I go to Settings Printers and scanners Add printer, the MG2551S isn't listed. The only Canon models/series I can find are things like MG900 and MG300, so I don't want to select the wrong one.
Has anyone successfully used an MG2551S with a Chromebook? Is there a compatible model/PPD I should select, or is this printer simply not supported by ChromeOS?
Any advice would be appreciated before I give up on the printer!
I have a Acer chromebook plus 714 ( intel i5 with 8gb of memory 256gb ssd that I bought about 2 years ago. After the latest update it kept going into a continuous bootloop of installing system updates and then crashing and then trying again.
I ended up trying to recover and got the device working again (using a system restore usb drive) but then it autoupdated and went back to bootlooping.
I repeated this a few times and tried to stop the auto update but it kept trying to update and then repeat the bootloop. After the last time it stopped being able to recover at all and hangs on system restores now from either the usb drive or the web recovery.
I am at a loss now.
Any suggestions ?
I used a Chromebook (Robo360) with Linux installed on it. But after installing Full UEFI with MrChromebox script this specific model didn't manage very well low battery - it depleted to zero and then didn't want to boot nor charge. So I recovered the ChromeOS from USB, it went well. Then I played with it a bit, messed up a bit, then wanted to start fresh again and run recovery again, but this time I used Chromebook recovery utility to prepare USB, chose "Lenovo 500e" and it seems to have been a wrong image (there are some others 500e...).
Now it is in a bootloop (screen lights up for a second, goes black, repeat). I can only enter recovery screen, it allows me to introduce a recovery USB, seems to recover with success (correct image this time), but it doesn't help. OS verification is off. Can't enter developer mode, legacy boot, anything except Recovery.
Is there anything I could do now?
I read a post from MrChromebox about modyfing chrome install script in the recovery image, but the post is from 8 years ago.
Thanks
EDIT: it seems that the image I chose in Chromebook Utility was the correct one, nevertheless the problem appeared after flashing it. I tried few different images later, same result.
I just got an hp dragonfly Chromebook, and there's an app called "apps and games" preinstalled. I've tried launching it and there's no internet connection, despite internet working fine everywhere else.
I did some internet investigation, and it turns out this feature was added in 2024 and is also known as "chrome mall" which is at least slightly less generic of a name making internet searches actually useful. Thanks, Google, for using such bland naming schemes that it's impossible to actually find info about anything.
There's also apparently a flag in chrome to turn the app shelf link on or off, which isn't present in my device at all. I can't remove the entry from the apps menu, and the app itself is non functional.
So what gives? Was the service discontinued or is something wrong with my device? It's updated to the current chrome is version and everything else is working perfectly.
