Anywhere to get a replacement keyboard?

I’ve got an Acer Chromebook spin 713, but 2 of the keys are gone, and I’ve glued the trackpad lol

Tried fixing one problem and made another…

Before this chimpanzee opens his wallet for a new laptop, any clue how I might go around ordering a replacement cover/keyboard?

Can I expand the storage on the HP Dragonfly Chromebook? NVMe M.2 SSD upgrade

According to HP's repair video on YouTube the NVMe SSD can be replaced with 2230 and 2280, just need to replace the screw.

Background: I can get the Dragonfly for 260€ with 16/256GB or 16/512GB for 320€ and a new original battery would cost me 32€...however I have several 1TB hard drives lying around here (970 Plus and 980 Pro 2280 witj 1TB) I wanted to stick with a Chromebook for 300€ and I think that's the best solution...

Now the only question is whether I can install the 1TB drive. How do I install Chrome OS? On Win/Lin I create a bootable USB drive and start the installation but what about Chrome?

College student: Giving my Dell Inspiron 15 to my sister who doesnt have anything in her country. Is a Chromebook good enough until Black Friday?

None of my family in the Dominican Republic has a laptop or desktop anymore. The last computer they had was the one I left here back in 2007, and it eventually broke. My sister spends 99% of her time watching YouTube on her Switch, which is honestly kind of sad.

I've been going back and forth on giving her my Dell Inspiron 15. I only paid about $600 for it, so it's not like I'm giving away something I can't replace. The only thing making me hesitate is that buying a similar laptop now would cost around $1,000, and I still have online college classes.

On the other hand:

  1. I have the money to replace it,but i just hate buying expensive stuff when it's not on sale.

  2. I rarely visit the Dominican Republic. This is my first trip back in 4 years.

  3. I have a gaming PC at home that I use for almost everything. My laptop is basically only used for online classes through Brightspace and programming classes, but mostly sql work

Writing this kinda helped me out

Anyway I'll just upgrade around Black Friday when laptops that cost 1000 go to 600 again. Right now I just want something that doesnt pass the threshold of "why not just buy a laptop at that point"

What I want to know now is: what should I buy in the meantime?

I'm a college student, and the main thing I use my laptop for is Brightspace, web browsing, Microsoft Office, and a database class this semester, but mostly lightweight sql stuff

I also play a lot of gacha so google play on the go saving my phone life is chill lol

Recent ChromeOS update

Not that its a big deal, just wondering if anyone else has had the same issue. The other morning when I got home from work, there was a notification to restart because the latest update was downloaded and installed. It no longer wants to stay connected to 5GHz Wi-Fi. It connects, but then disconnects, and reconnects. It does that over and over. Out of curiosity I connected to my 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network, no issues. My 5GHz network is set to accept both 5 and 2.5, however I have a couple devices that will not connect to the 5GHz network, even though my 5GHz network will do both. No big deal, just wondering.

Why did Google decide to skip the "Desktop" concept on Chromebooks?

On Windows PCs, you can instantly minimize everything and see your desktop using the "Win + D" shortcut. However, as far as I know, Chromebooks don't have an equivalent key combination.

I get that it comes down to a difference in design philosophy, but it makes me wonder: do they think a "show desktop" feature just isn't necessary for modern users anymore? Or is there another reason for leaving it out?

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

Chrome Browser - Multiple Profiles

I belong to multiple organisations, so in turn have multiple M365 accounts.

On Windows, I have multiple browser profiles and then each M365 account is signed in to each profile. This way, I can install specific sites (teams.cloud.microsoft and outlook.cloud.microsoft) as separate PWAs for each profile and have them open side-by-side and interact with them seamlessly.

I can't see how to do this very same thing on Chrome on ChromeOS.

What am I missing?

Slow when signed in, fast on guest mode

I've had this chromebook for a long time now. Maybe like 6 years? According to Google lens it's a Acer Chromebook Spin 311.

I've never been a fan of the thing since I got it. Anyhow it got much slower as the years went on. Even like 2 years ago, it was so slow that, when working via my mobile hotspot in public, it was sometimes take like 30 minutes for a single page to load. A year ago I reset the browser, deleted extensions and eventually did a full powerwash on it and even made a new account but it was still slow. I've continued to use it for the past year.

I'm at the stage where I'm willing to just lay it to rest and buy a new laptop. But, for some reason, it is significantly faster on guest mode. Fast enough that I would be fine keeping it. But it would be extremely inconvenient to always use guest mode.

Is there any easy fix for this? I really don't get why guest mode is faster even after a powerwash and new account. If the fix is really complicated then I'd rather buy a new device.

No Play Files Option When Opening Files App On Chromebook

So I was trying to upload some art to Tumblr but when files opened there was no Play Files option. I don't know if there was some sort of update I didn't know about but I had almost all of my drawings on there. Does anyone know how to fix this? I've already tried restarting my chromebook but it didn't work.

Just wanted to say I am a huge fan of my new Pixelbook

Couple years ago, my wife's MacBook broke and we got her a $220 Acer Chromebook Plus at Costco and it's been terrific. Does everything she needs, battery is great, etc.

I recently decided to get a used Pixelbook even though it looks like they've been discontinued almost 4 years. My work laptop is increasingly immobile, so figured it might be nice to actually take a laptop somewhere. The build quality is impressive, the processor horsepower is great for this kind of computer, and also, great battery life. I already enabled Linux Development Mode, installed VS Code and others

Great great device

Acer Chromebook 2 in 1, 11.6 Touchscreen?

https://www.bestbuy.ca/ipu/fr-ca/stores/967/products/19274594/scan-and-collect?icmp=dpt|967

Should I buy this laptop? Its on sale for 300$ Canadian but the sale ends today, after which it will go back up to 450$.

I currently have an Asus TUF f15 which I use for casual gaming sometimes and do most of my school work on it, but its battery life is very weak, so much that it barely lasts me one class period without running out, and its quite heavy for what I would consider a school laptop, ofc thats because its not meant for that.

What I really want to know that will make me decide if I should buy this or not, is, under the assumption that the battery life will be around 8hrs or more, will this specific model be a good replacement for school work? Will yhe 8gb be enough to open multiple google chrome tabs? And by multiple, I mean, 10-20, since thats around the max I have open while im doing big essays on work where I have to cite sources.

Besides that, will it be able to run apps like notewise, which is on the google play store? Or run any Microsoft office apps without an issue?

Lastly, is 300$ Canadian a good price for this laptop? Am I getting my money's worth or is it worth much less than that based on what it offers?

Help finding a specific Dell Latitude Chromebook

I'm trying to find a Dell Latitude Chromebook to buy as my previous experience with it was great. And it looked and felt good also.

Some identifying features of said Chromebook:

  • It was pretty small, probably had an 11" to 12" screen at max.

  • Square-ish body that felt rubber-y on some parts.

  • Micro SD slot.

  • USB-C charging.

  • It was some 2 or 3-in-one if I'm remembering correctly.

  • Made between 2020-2021 or prior.

  • Most likely an Education version of the Dell Latitude's.

  • It had an Intel Pentium CPU.

That's about as much as I can remember.

Edit: Remember some extra stuff.

Does anyone know if Putty on ChromeOS in the Linux env will give me access to a serial port?

I regularly have to configured new hardware, switches, NAS, etc, using the serial port on my MacBook. I would like to be able to use my Pixelbook, using Putty inside Crostini. Does anyone know if using Putty inside Crostini will enable me, using the USB-C port to access a serial port on another device? Thanks in advance, sorry if this is the wrong subreddit to ask.

hey i was developing an app and i wanted to ask for a solution

so i started on a project yesterday and I ran into an issue and i haven't really worked with a chromebook and chromeos much so i dont know how to get past it.
So one of my primary task was to read the raw input and the linux environment didn't let me read then using /devinput
so i wanted to know any solution by which i can efficiently read the raw touch input of the chromebook.

Help with appimage app not visible in the Chromebook apps launcher.

Hi,
I installed Linux a few days ago and already ran a Linux app. I downloaded another Linux app, copied it to the Linux folder, then looked at the Chromebook app launcher ( bottom left of the screen) and cannot see it. What could be the reason?
