The future of ChromeOS and ChromeOS Flex

Wouldn't it be wise for Google to finally clarify what Google's real future plans are for ChromeOS and ChromeOS Flex? Everyone (even AI !) can only speculate. This does not do ChromeOS and ChromeOS Flex any good. Google itself remains silent.

As a user, I would like to know where I stand. (And I love ChromeOS and ChromeOS Flex just the way it is!!!)

USB key storage.

Hi, I wanted to stock files from youtube before some corporate business would take it down, I don't trust my ''computer'' either since it can die on me for no reasons, i always had a little usb drive laying around and i wondered if there was enough storage for me to stock em in.

Is there anyway to get information about my drive's storage capacity, it doesn't show and i can't get another computer for the moment, (i hope i could be independent of computers with this stupid chromebook)

Surprised my Chromebook can't show this PDF

It's 436MB, full of photos for my travel slide show presentation tonight. I have to pack a Windows laptop (8GB) to show it, because my 16GB Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 (top-of-the-line) can't do the job. Adobe Acrobat on ChromeOS says it's limited to 100MB. There might be non-Adobe readers, but I don't want to waste time tracking them down and testing them, since this is a one-time event.

Surprising! My thinking up to today was that, while Chromebooks can't do everything, what they do do they do well. Not so.

Many people have advised against HP chromebooks because of " Hinge Issues ". My 3 HP chromebooks were before 2021, all glossy and 1080p, all 4gb ram and aesthetically pleasing, lovely Snow White. The one I now must give up due to AUE , still gets compliments and display wonderful, no hinge issue.

The ones available made after 2024 are ugly. But on the whole, less issues except the hinge comments. So, when did the hinge issue begin, and is it worse with x360 touchscreens ?

I am looking at a new HP chromebook at HP. The model is HP Chromebook x360, 14bt-ce000. N150 processor, 4gb ram and a 2k screen. Does the ram affect the 2k screen ? What do you think of this chromebook ?

I am sticking with HP. I have been only considering 1080p with glossy screens. Also , the glacier color is hard to find. Any info appreciated.

Does a chromebook fit my use case?

Hello all,

I'm looking to get a personal laptop, I'm provided with a computer at work so don't need for that, more for the following tasks:

  • General life admin
    • Online banking
    • Google sheets
    • Google docs
    • Gmail
  • Streaming
    • YouTube
    • Netflix
  • General online
    • Shopping
    • ChatGPT
    • Canva

Honestly nothing too heavy, and I've seen a secondhand Lenovo Idea Pad Slim 3 in great condition for £150 - just wonder if it's worth it for me for that price or if I should look at something Windows instead of ChromeOS?

Seeking a Recommendation for an 11-inch Chromebook with Touchscreen

I really like the form factor of my HP and Asus 11-inch detachable "Chrome Tablets," but the performance of the Asus with the MediaTek processor is pretty bad. The HP with Snapdragon is older but still decent. Both have 8GB RAM.

I'm in the market for another 11" touchscreen Chromebook. Doesn't need to be detachable or flippable, don't need a powerhouse, but I also don't want to have to wait a couple minutes to start using it once woken, and I shouldn't be able to type faster than the machine can manage.

Looks like $500 plus or minus is the going rate for 8GB 11-inchers at this point. Any specific suggestions for devices to look into, or those to avoid?

Chromebook Use Without Internet

I run a charity that provides school supplies and bursaries to a primary school in Zimbabwe. They now have power and I’ve sent a laptop to them to help with lessons. I’m considering more but I’m not sure if a Chromebook will work. It will probably never connect to the internet, will this allow the staff to use sheets and docs while saving them locally?

Lenovo USI Pen 2 vs. Penoval Stylus on Chromebook Plus?

I'm researching new laptop ideas and am considering various Chromebook Plus models. The ones I like best need a USI 2.0 stylus.

I know this won't feel like an Apple Pencil experience or even an S-pen, but would you recommend the Lenovo USI Pen 2 or the equivalent from Penoval? Other options?

I don't need to make Louvre quality art. I just want to take basic notes and sign my name and have it look legible.

A new HP 14 chromebook at HP.com has a n150 processor, 4gb ram, and a 2k screen. Do you have one, does it run hot ( fan or touch ) ? Do you like it ?

The combo of small processor, 4gb ram and a 2k screen surprised me. And it is also at Best Buy

How do I get rid of this?

Both devices have Bluetooth off, I do not use that TV ever, but it is saying I am connected to it and it is making it so that I cannot hold a stable connection on my computer.

Does anyone know how to obliterate this shit from orbit?

Does Linux work well for most people?

Honestly, Linux support on Chrome OS: I'm glad it's here, but this is kind of "Mickey Mouse" -- it's never worked that well.

App installation is painful and wonky at best. Do I "sudo apt install"? Oh can't do that, do I have to manually download some package... Which one, x64, ARM, .deb, .rpm, flatpak, that random .tar.gz..?

OK let's try the .deb, online instructions say I can just double-click on that! Oh whoops, nothing happens. OK let's move it into the linux partition and try sudo apt install ./package.deb ... Some failed dependency check? Wonderful!

Honestly, it's a miracle when I get anything to work. Signal desktop is my biggest victory and the one thing I actually use every day. I'd love to use emulators, but I can't even begin to troubleshoot the 10 things that go wrong when I try to actually connect a USB gamepad to the linux system.

In contrast, the functionality of web apps is just amazing and seamless, even in comparison to Android. More web apps pls!

bought a 9 dollar chromebook and need advice

so as the title says i went to the thrift store today and saw a grimy old chromebook for 9 dollars and my curiosity got the best of me. its an acer chromebook 11 (CB3-131) i bought a cord for it and it started up no problem, screen is good, keyboard is good and it loads up pretty darn quick, howeverrrr, i know absolutely nothing about chromebooks. i knew it was from 2017 before i bought it so i honestly wasn't even expecting it to turn on. my question is is there a way to get it up to date to where it can be compatible for even just netflix or other streaming services? it was less than 10 bucks so i won't be complaining if its simply another screen for me to browse reddit on (its currently what i'm typing on) if anyone could point me in the right direction it would be most appreciated :)

ASUS CX34 battery lifespan

Hello,

I have a CX34 (I3) Chromebook Plus, which has made me a bit of a convert to ChromeOS. Anyway, I am curious to know what people think the lifespan (charge cycle number) I can expect from such a battery? I have had many laptops over the years where everything worked, except for the battery. After about 18months the battery health on my CX34 is showing up as 87%.

Upgrading, printer suggestions?

For 6 years I've managed to keep my Asus Chromebox and HP printer/scanner working together. For some reason though I'm not able to get the printer to connect to wifi anymore so I connected via USB which worked but even that is giving me problems now.

I'm tired of trying to keep it all working so am planning to upgrade. I'll switch from my Chromebox to a Chromebook, lots of good options there.

The printer is where I need suggestions. Is there a brand and/or model that consistently works easier with chrome than others? I did manage to keep my old setup working until now but not without ups and downs along the way.

Does a true plug and play printer for chrome exist?

Thanks!

ChromeOS e collegamento ad altri PC

Buongiorno a tutti,
