What do I do with this?

I found this at a thrift store for $5 dollars and the lady said she is not even sure if it works. I took it anyways because it was cheap and maybe I could fix it.

Surely enough it does not work. The blue light turns on but no text appears, and the buttons do not do anything. I thought it looks pretty cool so I want to fix it.

I looked it up and I can not find a single video on this cd player. So I do not know where to even begin on a repair. Should I even attempt to fix it or cut my loss and throw it away?

Phil Collins on my recently resurrected Akai CD-D1 from 1983.

Finally got around to getting this gorgeous first-gen player on the workbench for a good going over. Plays like a champ now, and sounds absolutely fantastic.

Who still listens to music on CDs or cassettes and watches movies on a DVD (using a BluRay player)

Goodness, I seem so “old”. My 8 year old grandson watches a program on TV that seems to “glorify” being a parent. The young people on the program look 14 or 15 years old. 🤦🏼‍♀️

CDs vs Vinyl: Great Albums Podcast hosts explain why they prefer CDs

Not sure if anyone's familiar with The Great Albums Podcast, but the show's co-hosts Bill Lambusta and Brian Erickson went on the Unlimited Supply podcast this week to talk about why they think CDs are better than vinyl. Love their takes!

Did something wrong burning a CD?

Hey so I recently burned a CD and it didn't work properly. The file manager said all songs were on there, all the songs should've fit on there, but the CD Player can only play about half of them.

used mp3 files and a sony cdr if that matters

The duality of man

Saw Dorian Electra a couple weeks ago and got the CD and artbook from the merch stand. I have been anxiously awaiting the new Ride for Revenge which absolutely rips. When I saw NWN also had the Timo Ketola book I had to snatch it up. Thought it was a funny dichotomy y’all would enjoy

Cd find

was at my local cd shop and i found this cd on the ground under the main display case and the cover intrigued me so i took it home. I later looked up the band and the album and i couldn’t find a single thing relating to the band or album. The album is titled from the 3rd floor balcony. the original website thats on the back of the case for hats off to mary is no longer findable and im at a loss.

Its a rock album but idk what subgenre and its from 1998 and its definitely a Canadian band

Lucky me!

Lucky me!

Many of you might have seen my posts about the recurring issues with my Thomson AD-100 (Clone of Hitachi DA-1000).

Thanks to the wonders of the internet i managed to get in touch with a gentleman in Australia who works for a hitachi parts supplier. Originally they only had the full laser pickup mechanism which is more than i needed, but after a long shot query to the supplier they actually had just the optical block with the ribbon cables on its own, in NOS condition.

I appreciate there are far better players out there, but this player has become sentimental to me, and i’m still infatuated with the technology brought out during the rise of digital audio.

Massive thanks to https://probe.com.au/ocart2/index.php?route=common/home

The journey isn’t over, it’s gotta make its way here, and i need to find a repair tech to swap them out 😬

Recover Names of CD's In Photo

This photo is of a friend on mine who passed away in 2001. I would like to know the names of the CD's in her music towers. I used several AI tools and they were only able to make semi educated guesses based on contextual clues. None were able to actual restore the names of the CD's. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please help me find my childhood CD Player!

Sorry if this is the wrong sub, but I've been trying to specifically track down a Pink Philips Dynamic Bass Boost AZ105C Portable CD Player on multiple marketplaces and whatnot. I've only seen one eBay listing that was a high price and quite damaged looking, and I just lost an opportunity for a one in perfect condition. If anyone knows any way I could get my hands on one again I would be massively grateful.

[Archival] Does Anyone Else Remember the Shakira Pepsi Promotional CD?

Hi everyone,

Am I the only one who remembers the Shakira and Pepsi promotional CD from the early 2000s?

I've been trying to preserve this piece of media and am looking for a ROM/ISO dump of the original disc, especially the interactive multimedia content it included. I remember it having extra content beyond the music, and I'd really like to document and preserve it before it becomes completely lost.

If anyone has a copy, knows a collector who owns it, or has any information about where I might find a dump of the disc, I would greatly appreciate your help. Even photos, scans, or details about the contents would be useful.

(Apologies if I don't respond quickly. I'm not very active on social media.)

Cheap Cd player with toslink recommendations

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a cheap CD player to hook up to my new KEF LSX II LT speakers. Because the speakers only take digital inputs, the player needs to have a Toslink (optical) output and a remote control.
Since the KEFs have their own DAC inside, a basic CD transport or a budget player that outputs clean digital audio is exactly what I need. Any good recommendations?

Latest Nugget

Did I need it? Of course not, but it was so pretty and in such good condition I couldn’t pass it by.
