Questions about Camera Bodies, Low Light Settings, and other Questions about Cameras, Lens, and Subject Photography.
Hi my friend is very confident in my abilities as a photographer I have ADHD so I use it as a hobby for many things Nature, Cars, Cosplay, Etc. a month ago they asked if I could photograph them at the Atlanta Aquarium at a Night Party for the opening to Momo con.
I said yes of course as I really wanted to do so and the opportunity to photograph people who both like my work and get practice in was a golden opportunity I don't usually get.
Here's the thing, I want to do them right even if I'm doing this for free I want to give it everything Ive learned but I have questions for the community that knows better then me.
I'm assuming I'll be in a Low Lighting setting,.typically and for the last 25 years I've used my Rebel T2I and it's standard lens as well as a 75mm-300mm lens, it doesn't do well with darker settings and while I'm going to bring it I'd like to rent a camera body that is compatible with lens I have as it'll be more cost effective ($45-75 for seven days, all I need is it for 4).
I've loved this little camera for 15 years but I wanna try something more modern with better resolutions and ability to handle darker settings as well as natural light as I am assuming I can't bring in my LED panel with me for the safety of the sea creatures.
Question 1: what is a good camera body? What's something that will meet my lighting needs that won't leave a lot of noise
Question 2: for indoor and a variety of full body and mid portrait shots, what are some lens I should consider renting? If I did rent any.
Question 3: what are some poses I can try to relax my friend as she can be shy and very unsure of her body positivity? Are there any good examples someone can share via a link that I can draw inspiration from?
Question 4: what challenges should I expect from yalls experience?
Question 5: how can I relax my friend and get them to believe in the final results?
Question 6: what are things I should avoid?
Any awnsers are appreciated.
Question for someone new
I have tried posting about this a couple of times.
I live in the DFW area, and am trying to get into cosplay photography.
How do you find clients? How do you reach out reach out professionally to potential clients? I’m looking for some higher end cosplayers to not only build my portfolio but also gain more experience in a variety of subjects. And I love superheroes and fandoms just as much as the next guy 😁
I have a good portfolio and have been a professional photographer for a few years now. I almost had a client lined up, but schedules did match up.
I’m just trying to get into cosplay photography y’all 😂
Garage + Continuous Light + iPhone 17 Pro for Full Body Photography?
Hello! I’m trying to build a modular photography studio in my garage, primarily to be used for my wife’s cosplay. She works really hard on her costumes and I’d like to create a place for her to showcase her work! I’m totally new to photography, lighting, etc. My goal is to create high-quality cinematic cosplay portraits and full-body photos, as shown in the attached images.
The garage will be multi-use (gym/storage/etc.), so I’m shooting for a setup that can realistically be assembled/torn down in under an hour.
CURRENT SPACE:
-Standard 2-car garage
-Approx 9’4” ceiling height; I do have overhead storage extending 4 feet from the back wall, and an ceiling-mounted garage opener that drops 2’ in the center
-I have about 13 feet usable shooting distance from where I can mount the backdrop to the camera
-Garage windows will have removable blackout covers for light control
PLANNED EQUIPMENT:
-iPhone 17 pro 🙈
-8x13 Westcott X-drop system with fabric backdrops
-2x amaran Halo 200x / 200x S style continuous COB lights
-2x 48” octagon softboxes with grids
-2x Nanlite PavoTube II 30C
-Apple TV tether setup to TV monitor for live review
MY MAIN QUESTIONS:
Do you think this garage size/layout is realistically capable of producing the attached types of images?
Is the iPhone sufficient for this type of portrait/full-body work, or am I going to hit limitations quickly? Can I get by with an iPhone, or would I get much better results with a full body camera + lens?
Do you think continuous lighting is enough for these goals, or would I regret not going with strobes/flash?
Are there any major limitations/problems with my proposed setup that I may not be considering?
If you were building this type of modular garage studio, what would you do differently?
Thank you!!
Photographer offering cosplay/photography during Anime Expo LA 2026
I'm a California-based photographer attending AX this year and I'm offering cosplay portrait sessions throughout all four days. I've been shooting professionally for over a decade (weddings, events, portraits) and I love bringing that same intentional, story-driven approach to cosplay.
Here's the thing I do differently — **every single edited image from your session is yours.** No picking a package of 5 or 10 photos. No upsells. Everything. All sessions include full sharing and printing rights. Photos delivered within 7 days.
You can see my work on my website here.
DM me here for special Expo rates, or reach out through the site — I'll work around your panel and gathering schedule. Slots are limited so booking ahead helps!
A few questions for the community while I'm here:
For those who've done con photoshoots before — what made or broke the experience for you? Always looking to make sessions better for cosplayers. 👇💪
Sharing Mona from Genshin Impact game, cosplay by me ! [Self] [OC]
hello !
zombie starlord (IG:Gibcencosplay)
id been trying to post this in the marvel thread but it wasn't working. Just wanted to show off one of my favorite shoots.
This was in a random tunnel in NC and we spent a few hours trying to get it right. Mack is the cosplayer and the man killed it. I wrote a blog about it on my website lol. The blog is not good at all though.
