Pole performance in quick release coat

Hellooo I am choreographing a performance and trying to use a fancy coat to set the mood (think controlling sultry music conductor)

My plan is to use whatever release mechanism while upside down on the pole

The pattern is for non-stretched fabrics, but I will be unfortunately trying to sew with a stretch fabric because I do floor work and have to climb the pole before I can take it off (I’ll be sewing the purple coat)

My first thoughts were either magnetic tape through the armpits or button holes and plastic boning or Weedwhacker string or I’ve seen para cord

But I realized if I bought the magnetic tape, it was gonna cost way more than everything so I can make it Also I don’t know if the magnets will hold while doing movements so I don’t know if it’s worth the time to even sew it.

The most viable option would be using sewing in button loops to the seams of the under arm and sides in attaching the loop i pull in my armpits for easy access

Im going to attach a picture of the pattern

Also questionable if the longtails are gonna work because of the floor work

I would love any ideas or suggestions on tearaway placements or mechanisms

And I’m probably gonna post in multiple communities

I am willing to do the work for the magnets because that will be easiest to put back together in between runs when practicing

Thank youuu! 💗💗

Online Hollywood dAuction of Historical Costumes -- So many cool pieces!

Hi All,

Sharing this for anyone looking to add to their costume collection or acquire some more detailed pieces such as coats.

I think many people will enjoy adding their own flair to these items & making it their own.

It's an online auction & everything usually starts at $1 bidding, various sizes & time periods. I came across it in another sub related to Conan O'brien 😂 Sadly, I missed the auction of his original desk, but poked around their website and found this costume grouping.

Very neat & hopefully fun for those of you interested!

Quick change question

Hello!

I am the dresser for a one-woman show, and am trying to brainstorm ways to make one particular change go quicker.

I need to help the artist get into a long-sleeved spandex top, but at this point if the show her arms are just sweaty enough that the sleeves don't want to go on smoothly.

Right now I'm wearing the sleeves inside out (edit: and bunched up), grabbing her hand and the end of the sleeve, and pulling it on with my other hand. This works better than just sticking her arm through like you normally would, but the sleeves still get stuck and don't go all the way up.

Do y'all have any ideas? Is there something we could apply to the sleeves to make them slide on more freely?

Thanks in advance!

So, what's up with the shows costumes?

Dude built this out of a box of leather scraps and his old army equipment. All real, except the guns of course, all functional down to the armor being hand made with ballistic inserts. The helmet was his old Kevlar converted to blow air in. Prime has endless resources and we got party city crap all season.

Is there a convention for costume jewelry. Wouldn't it be fun to look at different collections?

Looking for MTF costume ideas…

Hey everyone, I’m planning to cross dress for a costume party I’m going to and want to push myself and try it out. I’m going MTF, but I don’t have a specific show or movie character in mind and it’s my first time crossdressing for a costume, so was looking for some recommendations for celebrities or characters to get started trying out. For context, I‘m taller, dark haired and pale… any ideas?

Edit: I’m looking for something that would compliment my current description, but undoubtedly push me into something unrecognisable and hyper-femme. Surprise me!

What fabric best looks/feels like moth wings?

I feel like minky is too fluffy and doesn't look the same. I like the look of faux suede fabric but it's missing the longer hairs. Im trying to make the most accurate giant moth wings possible, how should I go about this?

Neoburlesque costuming - concealing a chest piece

Hello!

I am doing an Alien themed burlesque number as Ripley. I will strip the jumpsuit to a tank and panties then rip/remove the tank to reveal a prosthetic chest burster alien.

I’m trying to think of ways to best conceal the chest burster, as he sticks out a few inches from my sternum. Luckily, I have big heavy boobs, so if I squeeze them together somehow it should look more like a uniboob rather that something obvious sticking out between them.

I’m thinking I could have double tank tops- on that is already ripped exposing everything, then another on top that I could use velcro to attach. The top piece I could attach something sturdy and flexible like horsehair or a foam sheet that would smooth everything out.

I’d love to hear some other ideas that may work better. Thank you!

What was my Halloween costume??

So my mom recently passed away and we’ve had the task of clearing out her home and garage. I’ve found so many pictures, as she documented EVERYTHING. I found this Halloween photo from the 90’s and used the iPhone magnifier app to try to figure out what my costume was. My sister was Mr. Potato Head, my brothers were Batman and Robin. I just cannot figure out what I’m supposed to be, lol. And we got to pick our own costumes so clearly this was something I liked at the time, haha. Help me figure it out!

Edit: replaced early 90’s with 90’s.

If you saw someone wearing a job application "costume" at a Halloween party or some type of anime convention what would you assume is the inspiration?

I was having a debate on if people would understand what I'd be referencing and I'm curious if I just think in a very specific way

Anastasia's Ballet Dress!

Costumers (and anyone else who has valuable input of course)! This one is for you! I'm trying to replicate Anya's gorgeous blue ballet dress from the Anastasia musical for a party later on this year. Finding a replica has proven difficult, so I was wondering if anyone had any insight on where to begin/supplies to get? I've made some lightly difficult cosplay before, but this project has proven itself pretty big even just by looking at it. i was hoping for some suggestions/guidance on where to start!

Making a Rapunzel wig?

Hii so I practically never use reddit, but I'm in charge of hair and makeup for a small school production of Into The Woods and in weighing up my options.

I don't want to buy from Amazon or Shein, but other options for extra long wigs that I can find are $60-$80 (aud) which is a LOT to spend on a wig for a 2-3 show high school production, that will end up sitting in storage getting dusty after the show is over. (The teacher whos directing said he is willing to spend that much, but idk how worth it that would be.)

SO I was considering making a wig myself out of yarn? I have pretty minimal experience with wigs/wig making but I am pretty crafty and quick to pick up skills. I'm just not sure how much effort and time it will take, and whether it will actually be better than buying an expensive high quality wig.

I don't need it to look perfect, it just needs to be wearable and read as a Rapunzel wig (the actor playing Rapunzel literally has a beard and is going to be in drag so)

Any advice/input very much appreciated!!

Is the costume legit?

I’ve been looking to buy an Aragorn costume and throughout my browsing this costume has popped up constantly under numerous vendors with varying prices. The photos are always the same and I have been unable to find any actual reviews of it. Has anyone ever purchased one or knows someone who has? I can’t help but think it’s a scam product.

Can someone help me find stuff like this?

I want to create a fairy costume for renfaire season. I’ve been looking all over the internet for days and also went to my local thrift (we only have the one, it’s pretty small and usually only has very “basic” clothes) but I had no success. I understand asking for help looking might be a bit much to ask, but maybe some of you already know where to get some of these things?

I mostly need:

- That white layered thingy on the first girl
- the white blouse or a similar one from the second girl
- wings like the second girl has (I found a few wings in general on etsy, but none like these. I’m willing to pay for qualitative wings but I’d like to not have to sell my organs for them if you know what I mean xD)

In general I’d be very grateful for anyone who can recommend places where I can get whimsical/fairy core accessories and/or jewelry.

I should probably mention that I’m based in germany, so it’d be amazing if the things you guys recommend are available here/don’t cost almost the same amount for shipping as the product itself. (For example, I found the wings of the first girl on etsy but the shipping was A LOT so I didn’t get them.)

Thanks in advance 🫶🏻
