Crown Princess vs Nieuw Amsterdam?

We’re looking into a 7 day Alaska cruise and debating between these two ships. Itinerary and price are pretty similar.

Any opinions on either ship? We’ve never sailed with either Princess or HAL before.

We’d be a group ranging from grandparents to elementary kids. We’re looking for a more quiet chill vibe to see the scenery. Our kids just hang out with us so kids club stuff isn’t very important to us.

How is remote work on Utopia of the seas?

Planning to go on a 4 day Utopia of the seas cruise but want to be able to still do remote work. Am I able to use a VPN on the cruise Internet, WiFi calling? If not, am I able to Google Remote Desktop to my computer at home while I am on the cruise?

I appreciate the help!

25M looking into my first solo cruise! Mainly looking January-February!

Hi Everyone! I’ve been on two cruises but with family and want to see how it is by myself! I don’t drink so my question is what cruise line is good for meeting people and has activities to do? I don’t care if there’s bars or anything on the ship but I want to make sure that I have enough things to do by myself and enough places to hangout with other people! I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts! Also if your cruising around the months I’m looking lmk too! I’d love to make plans ahead of time and make friends!

Princess customer service is making me think I may have made a mistake

I’m curious whether this is typical for Princess now, because my experience trying to get ready for our upcoming Alaska cruise has been incredibly frustrating.

We sail August 22, 2026. I cruised with Princess before, but it was 19–20 years ago. When I originally booked this cruise, I spent quite a bit of time both in chat and on the phone trying to get my old Princess account/cruise history connected so I would receive credit for my previous cruises. I was eventually told it had been taken care of.

Now that I’m checking in, however, Princess has me listed as a first-time cruiser.

Even stranger, when I sign into my Princess account, it says there are no cruises associated with my account. To access my upcoming cruise, I have to go to a separate page and manually enter my booking number. How is an upcoming cruise that I booked and paid for not connected to my actual Princess account?

That was issue #1.

Issue #2: Yesterday I booked excursions. I never received a confirmation email, and the excursions are not showing on my cruise itinerary. I tried booking them again, but the system tells me there is a scheduling conflict — which makes me think they actually ARE booked somewhere in the system. I just can’t see them or get confirmation.

So today I contacted Princess through chat and clearly explained that I had two separate issues: my past-cruiser status/account and my excursions.

After asking to speak with a representative, I somehow became even more frustrated. I honestly felt like the representative either wasn’t reading what I wrote or wasn’t understanding me. At one point she asked if I was inquiring about excursions from a past cruise.

Seriously? Why would I be contacting Princess because I can’t find excursions from a cruise I already took?

Then, before either of my issues was resolved, I started getting information about upgrading to the Premier package. I’m sitting there thinking, Can we please figure out whether my excursions exist and whether my account is correct before trying to sell me something else?

The representative, Mellinia, eventually told me I am actually a Gold Member, so apparently Princess does have my previous cruise history somewhere. But when I asked whether that Gold status would actually show correctly in my app/account, I couldn’t get a clear answer.

That’s what makes this so baffling. One part of their system apparently knows I’m a Gold Member. Another part thinks I’m a first-time cruiser. My Princess account says I have no upcoming cruises. Yet if I manually enter my booking number, the cruise appears. And somewhere else in the system my excursions may or may not be booked.

It feels like none of their systems talk to each other.

For comparison, after about a 10-year break from cruising, we took Royal Caribbean in 2019. I had never sailed with Royal before, and we really didn’t enjoy the cruise — there were so many kids that the pools and hot tubs felt like human soup. 😂The food was mediocre and so many of the cruisers seemed to never leave the eateries. Yuck!

Then we sailed Virgin Voyages last year, and the experience was so much better.

I was actually looking forward to trying Princess again, especially for Alaska, but I’m starting this trip already feeling annoyed with the company before I’ve even stepped on the ship. At this point I’m wondering if Princess is going to fall off our list of cruise lines altogether.

For those who have sailed Princess recently: Is their website/app/customer service normally this disorganized, or am I just having unusually bad luck?

Cruise advice

Looking for some cruise advice! 🚢✨
My boyfriend and I are planning our first cruise together to celebrate our 4-year anniversary, and I’m having the hardest time deciding which ship would be the best fit for us!
We’re both in our late 20s and looking for:
• Great food
• Amazing shows & comedy
• Fun bars and nightlife
• A nice casino
• An upscale/luxury feel without being too stuffy
• A good mix of relaxing during the day and having plenty to do at night
We’re not really choosing based on waterslides or kid-focused activities — good food, drinks, entertainment, atmosphere, and nightlife are much more important to us.
So far, we’ve narrowed it down to:
Norwegian Aqua
Celebrity Reflection
MSC Seascape
Norwegian Prima
MSC Poesia
If you’ve sailed on any of these, I’d LOVE to hear your experience! Which would you choose for a couple in their late 20s celebrating an anniversary? 🥂❤️

Quantum of The Seas - Flow Rider incident

Hey guys! Hoping to find anyone else on the same cruise that might’ve seen or heard about someone wiping out and losing their shorts on the flow rider… I’m the dude lmao

To be more specific, there was definitely a good sized group of spectators and I saw your phones so if anyone got any videos or pictures, I get it and I probably would’ve done the same so I’m not mad but please don’t share them! The crowd was supportive but I was too in shock to ask anyone in the moment lol but anyways, if those pictures and videos are going to float around, at least send them to me please 😭

UPDATE: For anyone wondering, I’ve been approached and asked about losing my shorts a few times today since it happened but so far but nothing super negative, it’s been mostly funny and lighthearted. Wasn’t expecting to be approached at all tbh so we’ll see how things go tonight. From the few people I’ve talked to that were there, none of them had any pictures or videos. Maybe I’ll post about those interactions

Cruise passengers beware

Magic Iceland Travel kept $468 from my family. I contacted the company two days before the excursion because I was concerned about the tendering process and the weather and the gentleman I spoke to said that it is highly unlikely that anything would go wrong. Fast forward to the morning of the excursion, and our port was canceled due to weather. I immediately contacted magic Iceland travel, and was told that they would not refund any of my money. I spoke to many other cruise passengers and every single one of them got refunded from different companies. I just want to spread the word that magic Iceland travel will not give you any sympathy for a missed poor and will keep every penny of your money.

Why is MSC your favorite cruise line?

What’s one thing that MSC cruises do that stands out to you? Have you celebrated anything on MSC that made it extra special?

I’ll be sailing MSC for the first time soon and I want to know if there’s anything special to be excited for.

⚠️Think Twice Before Booking Cordelia Cruises: My Experience With Their Cancellation Practices

I normally don’t write posts like this, but this experience has genuinely left me frustrated, and I feel people should know about it before they book a Cordelia cruise.

I had planned a Cordelia cruise to celebrate my wife’s birthday.

This wasn’t just another holiday for us. A cruise birthday celebration had been on her bucket list for a long time, and I was really looking forward to making it happen.

We planned everything around the cruise. Flights, hotel, leave from work, everything.

Then, around 27 days before the sailing, Cordelia cancelled the cruise.

The only reason given was “operational reasons.”

Okay, things happen. I understand that.

But what really shocked me was what happened afterwards.

I had already spent a significant amount on the cruise and around ₹30,000 on flights. Because of the cancellation, I lost around ₹15,000 on the flight cancellation alone.

I also lost around ₹12,000 on my hotel booking, which was booked specifically around the cruise dates.

So I was already out approximately ₹27,000 in flight and hotel cancellation losses, before even considering the disruption and everything else.

I contacted Cordelia and asked them a pretty straightforward question:

Since you cancelled the cruise, what are you going to do about the financial loss I have incurred because of your cancellation?

The answer was basically: nothing beyond their standard options.

They offered me a refund, rescheduling, or initially a 125% future cruise credit.

I kept escalating because I honestly couldn’t understand the logic.

If I had cancelled the cruise, I would have had to pay a pretty hefty cancellation charge. In my case, the cancellation calculation showed a liability of more than ₹55,000.

So when the customer cancels, there is a significant financial consequence.

But when Cordelia cancels, the customer’s flight, hotel and other losses are apparently the customer’s problem.

I asked them about this several times.

I also pointed out that my booking was made over a phone call. During the booking process, the cancellation charges applicable if I cancelled were explained to me.

Nobody explained to me that if Cordelia cancelled, I would be left to absorb the losses associated with flights and hotels.

That distinction became very important only after they cancelled the cruise.

I spent days calling and emailing them, trying to find a reasonable solution.

At one point, I was even told that my case needed more time. I asked what exactly was being reviewed and how much time they needed, but I couldn’t get a clear answer.

Eventually, after multiple escalations, they came back with a revised offer:

125% Future Cruise Credit, valid for 24 months, with no blackout dates, plus complimentary paid shows.

I appreciate that they improved the offer.

But honestly, I’m still not comfortable accepting it.

Why?

Because I didn’t cancel the trip.

I lost money because they cancelled the trip.

And now I’m being asked to put that money back into another future booking with the same company.

The birthday part makes this even more disappointing.

They offered a complimentary birthday cake and paid shows for the future cruise.

That’s a nice gesture, but the birthday we planned for has already passed.

A cruise birthday celebration was something my wife had wanted to experience for a long time. I was genuinely excited about ticking that off her bucket list.

For Cordelia, this may just be another booking.

For us, it was a highly awaited experience and a memory we were really looking forward to.

That’s what I think companies sometimes miss.

Customers don’t always buy a product. Sometimes they’re buying an experience they’ve been waiting for.

I’m not posting this because I want anything for free.

I’m asking for what I believe is a fair resolution for the financial loss caused by a cancellation that wasn’t my decision.

I’ve tried resolving this directly with Cordelia multiple times. They have now given me their position in writing.

So I’m sharing my experience publicly because I would have genuinely appreciated knowing about this side of their cancellation policy before I booked.

If you’re considering a Cordelia cruise, I’m not telling you what decision to make.

Just do your homework.

Ask them specifically:

“What happens to my flight and hotel expenses if YOU cancel my cruise?”

And get the answer in writing before you pay.

If anyone here has had their Cordelia sailing cancelled, I’d genuinely like to know what happened in your case and what resolution you received.

I’ll also update this post if Cordelia eventually resolves my case fairly.

Carnival Destiny 1999

Hi everyone,

I’m researching the Carnival Destiny sailing that departed Miami on July 4, 1999 and I’m hoping to find anyone who may still have memorabilia or memories from that exact cruise.

The itinerary was:
Miami → San Juan → St. Croix → St. Thomas → Miami

I’m particularly looking for:
the official onboard Voyage Video / Video Diary
Carnival Capers
personal photographs or home video
tickets, menus, receipts, embarkation photos or scrapbooks
anything showing the captain, cruise director or crew names

I’d also love to hear from anyone who was on that sailing and is willing to share what they remember, even if you no longer have any materials. If you do get in touch, I’d just ask that you’re able to verify you were on the cruise.

Please feel free to reach out privately.
Many thanks,
Katherine
