Update #7 on Beau 💔😔 (post-op)

Well… another sleepless night for this momma. 😞

Beau’s facial swelling began worsening at an alarming rate over the course of the night. It got to the point where I couldn’t stop checking on him and monitoring the swelling to make sure he was okay.

I wanted to take him to the emergency vet last night, but unfortunately I couldn’t find a ride. Thankfully, he has an appointment this morning at 10:00am. Just 2 more hours to go, and then we can hopefully get this poor little man some help. 😭

I feel so awful having to bring him back there again. It honestly feels like he just cannot catch a break lately.

Please keep Beau in your thoughts this morning and hope that whatever is causing the swelling is something simple and easily treatable. 🖤

Update on Beau #6❤️‍🩹 (post-op)

Good evening, everyone! 🤍

Here’s today’s Beau update:

His stroller arrived, and I genuinely don’t think he has EVER loved anything more. 😭 It was one of the most wholesome and precious things I’ve ever seen. I honestly wasn’t sure if he would enjoy it or if he’d feel too restricted and hate it, but nope — he was an absolute pro. You’d think this little man had been riding in a stroller since birth. 😂

He loooved getting some fresh air. He just sat there taking everything in — the scenery, the smells, the sunshine, the breeze. It was really, really nice to see. He also seemed much less restless today now that we were finally able to get out for a little bit. Once again, you all made that possible for him, and I can’t thank you enough. 🖤

He also pooped when we got home, and thankfully it was not covered in blood this time, which feels like a step in the right direction! There may have been a tiny bit internally, but there was none coating the outside like before, so I’m taking that as a positive sign for now.

Unfortunately, it feels like every day brings something new to worry about. 😞 Today I noticed a LOT of swelling on the right side of his face. What concerns me most is how high up it is — around his cheekbone/eye area. I’m worried it could possibly be an infection or something along those lines. I’m really hoping it’s just delayed swelling from the surgery, but it feels strange that it would flare up this much several days later.

The right side is where the majority of his teeth were removed, so that’s definitely been on my mind all day. I sent the vet an email with photos attached because we’ve already been there so many times recently, and I don’t want to stress or traumatize the little man unnecessarily if it’s something normal.

Other than the swelling, though, he’s actually been doing really well. Even while dealing with the bloody stool, behaviourally he’s still happy, loving, playful, and full of energy. 🖤

We’ll continue keeping everyone updated. Sending all of you lots of love & light, and thank you again for continuing to care about my sweet boy as much as you all do.

Sent from Heaven???

I was just watching a video on YT about does God send us our special pets. I wrote the following comment & thought I would share it here, too. /////

My daughter and son-in-law had to put down their mini dachshund that they had since she was a puppy. They had to suddenly take her to the ER Vet in the middle of the night & have her put down. They knew the end was coming, but they always hoped for more time.

My son-in-law was driving to work later that day & he saw a commotion going on. He stopped to see & there were two guys trying to get an abandoned dog to safety. They did & my son-in-law said he would like to take the dog home & he did. They searched for the previous owners & couldn’t find them. So the dog became their dog.

They weren’t without a dog for even 12 hours. Sweet story, but listen to the rest of the story. The new dog was a mini dachshund, too. AND he looked EXACTLY like the dog they just lost. I didn’t quite believe that until my daughter brought their new dog to my house.

When I saw him, I KNEW that dog was sent straight from Heaven.

Does anyone else's dachshunds have a weird, deep obsession with these specific latex pigs?

I swear, out of all the expensive heavy-duty toys, this soft latex pig is the one that gets carried around the house 24/7.

It's about 16cm, so it’s the perfect size for them to just hold and squeak. Honestly, I love that it’s actually great for massaging their gums and keeping their teeth clean while they chomp on it, but the obsession is real!

Do your dashchund actually destroy latex toys instantly, or do they treat them like their prized babies? (Thinking of getting the white or yellow one next!)

Edit: Since a few people were DMing me asking where I got the toy, I'll just leave the link here to save everyone some time:

Upsetting update about Beau 💔

On Sunday, Beau had some blood in his stool, & I preserved the sample in the fridge, only to be reminded that it was a long weekend here in Canada. Yesterday he didn’t poop at all, but he did this morning — & unfortunately there was blood again. 😭

I just dropped off the sample at the vet. They suggested doing a fecal sample before bringing him in for another exam because:

  1. they don’t want to stress him unnecessarily, &
  2. he may ultimately need imaging done, since he’s already had multiple physical exams recently & they likely wouldn’t reveal anything new right now.

I am so incredibly worried, exhausted, defeated, & scared. I just want my baby to be okay. I don’t want him to have to go through even more medical procedures than he already has. He was not pooping blood prior to being kicked, & I’m having a really hard time not spiraling & thinking the worst.

Because of this, I will be increasing the GoFundMe goal to $6,000. If Beau does need additional imaging or further diagnostics, I want to be able to get it done ASAP. Unfortunately, GoFundMe payouts can take 2–5 business days to process, & with how worried I am about him, I don’t want delays preventing him from getting care quickly if he needs it.

I feel awful even asking for more help or donations, & I never want anyone to feel obligated. But if you are willing & able to help Beau continue getting the care he needs, it would mean the world to both of us.

Thank you all so much again for the love, support, kindness, prayers, donations, & encouragement throughout all of this. 🖤

Sincerely,
one very tired momma.

Please give me reasons not to adopt this mini!

This miniature dachshund is 5 and unbelievably adorable. I'm looking for reasons, having never had a sausage before, NOT to adopt him.

It's quite clear all the reasons I should take him home with me, but I need the cons list.

For context:

He has to be rehomed because he lives in sheep country and keeps attacking sheep.

My living situation is changing, my son (11) and I have been staying with my parents (and three cats) but moving to the countryside with my partner in the summer (will be getting a kitten, this is his non-negotiable).

We have horses but not at home.

We like to go on adventures around the Scottish Highlands which involves a lot of walking (however parents/brother are happy to look after pets).

I've never outright owned a dog, but have lived with them and am close to my brother's dog).

Both my partner and I work full time in education, and son is at school.

Partners sister has a cockapoo who is yappy af and will not shut up, so this is likely to be a concern for me if sausages are generally yappy creatures.

Why should I say no to this beautiful boy?

Happy 1st Birthday to my baby boy Milton 🎉🥳🎂❤️

His birthday cake was homemade, Banana peanutbutter cinnamon cake with potatoes, yogurt & pinch of tumeric frosting. He loved it 👌😍🥰
