What made you choose Dentistry over Nursing, and how did you know it was the right path for you?

Hello! I’m a 1st-year Nursing student, and I’m currently thinking about shifting to Dentistry. I’d really appreciate advice from people who are already in the program or have gone through a similar situation.
Would shifting to Dentistry be a bad idea? I know Nursing is a good and practical program, while Dentistry can be expensive and involves many years of studying. There’s also the challenge of eventually setting up your own clinic and the financial investment that comes with it.
But honestly, I feel like my mind won’t be at peace unless I at least try Dentistry because I genuinely feel like it’s calling me. I’m still very indecisive about whether I should shift or stay in Nursing, and I’m scared that I might regret either decision.
For those who chose Dentistry, especially those who shifted from another program, what made you choose it? And do you think it was worth it?
Any advice would really help. Huhu 😭

Struggling 2nd Year Student Here

Sobrang nahihirapan ako sa mga majors namin ngayon. Everytime I'm in my class, parang I'm always behind.

I can't understand the heavy topics in one go, kahit maglecture pa kami ng ilang oras with additional labs after, wala pa rin akong maintindihan about the concepts. Nakaka-insecure seeing many of my classmates na fast learners. Yung brain capacity ko parang kailangan pa iexplain sa akin ng more than ten times ang topic with matching visuals para lang maintindihan ko.

I'm this bad at theoreticals pero hindi ko rin mabawi sa practicals because wala rin akong katalent-talent sa drawing/kamay. Dentistry school really is humbling, consistent honor student naman ako elem to hs haha.

Ang hirap lang dahil I need to balance my personal problems within my family and mental dilemma sa studies ko. It's not helping that I also need to maintain my scholarship. Pero alam ko naman sa sarili ko na kailangan ko magdevelop ng study habits if I want the results that I want to achieve. I do not know how to review these heavy science or dental concepts.

PAANO NIYO TO NAGAGAWA?😭

Hello dockies! How to properly measure the margins of your fpd? I know a lot of you alam na by eyes yung .5 and 1mm. Just wondering how do you measure it if hindi by eyes? Meron bang nabibiling instrument to measure it? If by eyes lang, how do you do it? Tyia! 🩷

Also checking out woodpecker UDS led na almost 10k pero I think it's too expensive na para saakin huhu still thinking

TIL Novocol Petite Syringes were locally discontinued and rebranded/redesigned from an authorized distributor due to complaints.

The official Novocol Petite Aspirating Syringes were ergonomic, especially considering that Filipino professionals are predominantly female with smaller hands OR are compact men like myself. This seemed to have received many recommendations online, though the complaints were valid wherein the carpule wouldn't completely deplete nor would the plunger be smooth. The supposed solution to this was to instead acquire Novocol Fusion, though these are much harder to find now.

Now, I recently acquired the Injecto Standard Aspirating Syringe by Gantech Industries (exclusive distributor) and it is almost 1:1 with the specifications of Novocol Fusion. It has a standard thumb ring and it is an in-between of the Petite and Standard. It depletes completely and follows closely the parts specifications of why the Miltex GripRite Petite Syringe works properly and Septodont/Novocol doesn't. Unfortunately, shipping for the former did seem challenging to find despite being more cost-effective.

Anyway, Novocol/Septodont distribution has been discontinued in the PH since 2024. I wanted to let you guys know that Injecto is the redesigned product, still using the same materials albeit now manufactured by Shanghai Avery Biotechnology Co. Ltd. rather by Novocol Pharma.

Q&As are welcome but I may respond in delay. ☺️

No, I do not distribute dental supplies and I'm a student like most users here. Just sharing my insights because this would seem to be the first mention of its existence online. That is all.

Dental appointments changes

Ganito na ba mga dentists ngayon, idk what's the right term kung entitled ba or micromanaging when it comes to scheduling or anything that comes with time management?

I'm working in a dental clinic for few months na and pansin ko sa mga dentists, ang hilig nila mang warshock ng patients when it come to schedules. For example, if they assumed na they'll finish early sa isang px nila, uutusan nila yung mga assistants to call/text the next patient na maaga pumunta (an hour or two prior to their scheduled appointment) tapos it's either sa assistant magagalit or sa px pag di dumating or sumagot agad pag pinapaagahan bigla yung punta nila.

I have worked with other doctors before as an assistant/fd din sa mga clinics but I've never encountered na paagahan yung patient on a short notice or rattle the patient na pumunta agad not unless may emergencies. Sa past work ko naman kasi sometimes thankful pa yung doctors non if they finish early before another patient comes in kasi they'll have time to stretch or breath bago humarap ulit sa px.

So ayun, genuine question lang if ganito ba talaga scheduling system and attitude ng dentists or dental clinics? Wala kasing palya lahat ng nakasama ko ngayon ganyan, yung iba naman marunong ng proper communication kahit papaano. I'm not used to this up until now so in my pov, nakakaoff lang kasi I also put everything on schedule so minsan before appointment, may ganap din ako but I make sure to be there 15-20mins early pa rin.

DLSMHSI or UE MNL

Hello! I’m still SHS rn, but I want to decide on my future already. I’m still undecided if I’m going to UE or DLSMHSI Dentistry. I currently reside in Manila but willing to study at cavite if needed. I heard that DLSMHSI has good equipments and good environment, while UE is already overcrowded, but I still consider it because it’s the top dental school as of today. But I’m worried about the competency of DLSMHSI in terms of lectures and producing dentists. Pls help me decide which school to go to. If I will study at DLSMHSI, I can rent a condo. The TF is not a problem; it’s just the school itself which I can’t decide. Thank you so much and I hope you respect my post!

Dad said we can't afford Dentistry school. Need advice on TESDA courses / alternative routes.

Hi everyone! Grade 12 STEM student here, and my dream is to become a Dentist. Recently, I opened up to my dad about it, but he honestly told me that we don’t have the financial capacity to send me to dental school. He suggested that I look into other courses instead. Since I really want to stay connected to the dental field, I’m exploring alternative paths and would love to hear your thoughts or advice: TESDA Courses: Okay ba mag-take ng TESDA courses related to dentistry (like Dental Laboratory Technology or Dental Hygienist)? Practical choice ba ito as a stepping stone, or limited lang din ang career options? Working Abroad: Realistic ba na mag-abroad using TESDA dental qualifications? Personally, ayaw ko talagang umalis ng bansa (despite everything happening here, haha), pero kung kailangan para makaipon for dental school or financial stability, willing ako i-consider. Would love to hear from dentists, dental students, TESDA grads, or anyone who took a non-traditional route. Any advice, reality checks, or alternative suggestions would mean so much. Thank you!
