First period returned 3 months after coming off Depo

I’m (21F) 3 months off the jab. Hadn’t noticed much other than the daily bleeding stopped. Normal discharge returns and that’s it. Got extremely hot flushes and nausea occasionally.

Fast forward to 3 days ago. I started to bleed, have been dealing with being extra emotional, moody, crampy, headachey, increased libido and extreme EXTREME fatigue!
The fatigue is terrible I can hardly get myself out of bed. Even after a sleep in I’m drowsy around 6pm. I’m super exhausted. Did anyone else experience this? I bled daily on the jab, but hadn’t had an actual period for a year. It’s like I’ve forgotten how to handle them! Any advice to help my body readjust?

Depo injection

I recently went back on the depo injection after a 2 year break. The last time I was on it for almost 3 years it stopped my period altogether but this time I haven’t stopped bleeding since I had it (2 weeks ago) sometimes it’s old brown bloody and sometimes fresh red blood, it’s not overly heavy and mainly when I wipe after using the toilet but it’s really getting annoying, I wanted to know if anyone else has had to deal with this and if so? What did you do to control it. I’ve been back to the gp and they said it is a very common side effect, I just find it weird that out of the many times I’ve had this jab before this has never happened. Any advice would be appreciated x

Endometrial Ablation?

Has anyone come off Depo after having an endometrial ablation? I had a bisalp and an ablation in November. I was on Depo for about 18 years, and I would have been due for my shot in December. Without the ablation, I would expect a ton of bleeding, but with it I shouldn't have a period at all. Not sure if I should really get my hopes up, or go in with caution.

I am addicted to the Depo Shot….

I honestly believe that I am addicted to the Depo shot because I’ve been on the shot for over 15 years. I started taking a shot when I was 13 years old. Due to my Fiancé wanting his first child with me I wanted to get off the birth control at 27, but I am afraid of having a child and I’m afraid of the changes that could happen to my body.

Starting in October 2025 I was no longer accepted for an appointment with Planned Parent Hood because I’m on Medicaid. I searched for anyone that could accept me.

Metro health can accept me. I asked for the most earliest appointment that they have and they said it was across town.

He asked if I was going to have his child I said yes. Days later I ran and got the depo shot. Once they put the shot in my arm I felt a big relief 😮‍💨.

I feel like if I don’t get off of it soon wont I be able do have kids at 30 years old.. but I was told by other women I can still get pregnant I just have to completely stop using it for one whole year.

I have very little sympathy for those who over-use depo

This might be controversial but there’s no excuse for being on depo longer than the recommended time (~3 years), in this day and age.

I understand if you were taking depo like 20 years ago and this wasn’t common knowledge. But we have the internet now and everywhere you look about depo will tell you not to be on it for over 3 years.

I see some insanity in this sub like “I’ve been on depo for 15 years…” and I honestly just have to roll my eyes. Of course you’re going to be complaining of problems, you’re mis-using a drug!

My sympathy goes out to those who were lied to by a medical provider or circumstances like that. But people who simply refuse to do their homework or are wilfully ignorant of the risks just pmo

Which mini pill after depo?

Hi all, I am coming off Depo Provera after 20 plus years.

I'm 46 and believe I'm in peri-menopause.

I wanted to give my body a break from all hormones but I've read some horror stories about coming off the Depo cold turkey, so I thought maybe I'd ease off it by taking the mini pill instead.

My next shot was due yesterday.

I'm worried about my bone health and my sex drive is absolutely zero.

Having read up there are all new types of mini pills now! Who knew?!

Has anyone got personal experience with any specific type or brand.

Ideally I'd like my sex drive back, even a little bit.

I've also read that staying on Depo can help through the menopause (but I'm not really sure how or why it helps) and I'm wondering if the mini pill could have the same effect in helping to control some meno symptoms.

Which pill might suit me better (older and perimenopausal) 🤔

I considered sterilisation as well but I'm very overweight so too scared of an op where anaesthetic is needed.

Thanks for any advice 🙏🏼

Depo Shot

I’m on my third Depo shot I get my next one in at the beginning of June. Bleeding has been light for the most part but constantly there. No pain or cramping. But after having sex with my boyfriend my bleeding got heavy and I have cramping just like a normal period. When is the bleeding going to stop? Or slow down. I asked the gyno and they said be patient this is typical as long as it’s not heavy every day. Which it’s not. Also I’ve been on the Depo shot before and decided to stop and give my body a break. I did not have any issues before and my periods were mainly non existent. This really sucks.

insane weight loss

hi guys! i wanted to come on here to ask if anybody else has had this experience coming off of depo. ive gained weight on the depo (as it was a side effect) and i loved it—i’m someone who is naturally thin and have had weight gain goals for a long time. now that im off the depo, i feel like i’ve lost more than what i originally had.

before my usage, i was a 34b and now i can’t fit into any of my old or new bras, shrinking back down to an a cup. all of my jeans that i had that were my size are now loose on me. i genuinely feel so insecure of my body and i don’t know what i can do. i had body insecurity before and during my doses of depo, but now that i’m off it and supposed to feel better, i don’t feel like i do..

fear mongering

this community seems to fear monger this bc alot more than other bc communities so let me say this. alot of these side effects are preventable when taking the right precautions .

if you never really worked out or lived an active lifestyle with mindful eating b4 taking this bc, ofc you’re going to gain weight on depo cause you’re falling victim to your cravings daily for 3 months straight.

ofc you’re gonna (temporarily) lose bone density because you’ve never lifted a weight a day jn your life & the only time you engage in physical activity is during sex.

and if you’ve never had depression and aren’t prone to it, i doubt you’ll just randomly start having manic episodes and things of that nature.

if you’ve never done anything to intentionally maintain your body and your state of life as it is now, ofc something that greatly affects your body has the capacity to change how you function.

if anything, prior to starting bc is the perfect time to start practicing these things and claiming control over your body.

i feel like the ppl in here (and ppl in general) know this, that they never work out or have alr had depression, yet never mention that they’ve had it prior to this shot jst to fear monger and it’s becoming straight bs.

No period after 1 depo shot?

Hi everyone! I got the depo shot back in October last year, after taking it I had no period up until December-January where it lasted 18 days. Ever since this I don’t think I’ve really had a proper period since? Some spotting that’s lasted a few days occasionally across some months but nothing much? I’m wondering if this is normal? (I’ve taken multiple pregnancy tests and they always show up negative so I don’t think I’m pregnant. Just looking for some advice or opinions?

Successful pregnancy stories after stopping depo shot

I was on the depo for 9 years and purposely missed my shot in April to try and have a baby. I’ve heard so many different stories and of course I’m now so scared of infertility. When did everyone get there period back after the missed shot ? Or do you not have to have the period to get pregnant? I wish I never went on the shot
