Cannot believe this is real

Derby councillors walked into the official Mayor Making event to the instrumental of the Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre classic — yes, the one about weed, drive-bys and hating the police.

Apparently it was the outgoing mayor's song choice, and not everyone was vibing... with one councillor calling it "highly inappropriate" for the occasion.

Funny enough, it was this out going mayor (Mr. Atwal) who was kicked out of the Lib Dems for posing with an AK47 and posting it on social media.

Why do we still keep on voting these clowns into positions of political power.

What is there to do in derby as an activity?

Hi there we are fairly new to the city (6months) and struggling to find things to do for a reasonable cost.

So far we have been to Hollywood bowl more times than I can remember. We also regularly play badminton at the arena. Both of these are around the £15-£25 range for 2 people.

Anyone have any other things or ideas that are available?

Thank you I’m advance

Matlock Bath: things to do?

Hey all,

Hope everyone is well.

I’m wanting to visit Matlock Bath over the next few days since the weather will be good. I’ve never visited before. I’m female, in my twenties for reference. I’ll be solo, and will be travelling by train. I’d like some suggestions please on things to do whilst I’m there.

I’ve done some research, and I will be visiting the aquarium and heights of Abraham for sure. I don’t want to go on a hike but don’t mind a small easy walk, as I won’t have the correct footwear, so will Hall Leys Park be a good idea? What other things/places to visit are there please?

In terms of food and drink, what affordable coffee shops and restaurants are there please? Ideally places that will accommodate solo diners. Not really a pub gal, would rather a fish and chip shop or a restaurant/cafe.

I don’t have a massive budget but do want to make a good day out of it before travelling home.

Thank you in advance!

Mixed grill

My partner and I LOVE a mixed grill and we’re trying to find the best one in Derby!
Our favourite place was in March awarded a zero food hygiene score and now we’re terrified lmao.
We like lamb chops; shish; salad etc.

Side note: An uber driver today recommended a place 200 yards down from Istanbul restaurant on normanton road (which we enjoy) said it was better and cheaper; but idk which one it is?

Recommendations appreciated

5-a-side football in Derby

I've not played football in a few years and was wanting to get back into it. So pretty much throwing it out there, but are there any groups or teams for an individual to join for playing 5-a-side? I know there are Sunday league teams but I'm looking for something a bit more casual to do once a week in the evenings.

Think the local pigeons have officially claimed the turtle.

Went down to the River Gardens last weekend to catch a bit of sun. Pretty sure the local wildlife has decided the bronze turtle makes the perfect lookout spot. Hope everyone's having a good week!

Good coffee?

I'm visiting staying by the west mill but where in the city (hopefully nearby) can I find a quality cup of black coffee? I drink espresso and lattes but I prefer a nice cup of black coffee. Drip is fine, pour over is preferred.

Disclosure, I'm from the states and usually when I visit Europe I find myself surrounded by cafes that only serve espresso and milky sugary concoctions but I always find something good across town. Any help is appreciated.

Kingsway renting

Greetings good people of Derby,

We are new to Derby and recently started working at Derby Hospital. Currently took hospital accommodation and looking for a 1 to 2 bed flat under £1000, ideally close to the hospital and near a gym. (Only way I can ever go to gym is if it's 5 mins walking/also don't have a car yet)

Been looking around Kingsway (near Sainsbury’s/PureGym, especially Lancaster House/Cambridge House), but not many properties come up there and a lot seem out of budget ( 3 bedroom being 1500+£)

Another issue is that hospital accommodation has told us we now need to give 2 month notice before moving ou because of some new UK law that's just come up, while most rentals want immediate move in. Not really sure how people manage this.

For now have been religiously following Zoopla and Rightmove. Any advice on how to handle the notice period situation would be really appreciated. Apologies for TMI.

Tech Networking with Purpose: Leicester Tech & AI Meetup

Noticed most tech & AI events are usually in places like London or Nottingham, so my friends and I are thinking of starting a casual Leicester Tech & AI meetup.

Nothing overly formal, just a no-pressure space for people interested in tech, AI, careers, startups, etc., to connect, chat, and share experiences.

Open to all levels, whether you’re experienced in the industry, a student, career switcher or just curious about tech.

Still early stages and no official date yet, just trying to see if there’s genuine interest locally 👀

Bits of A52 closed ⚠️

A number of roads in Derby are currently closed because of a police incident. Derbyshire Police said at 5 am on Friday 15 May that Eastgate, the A52 Pentagon Island, Derwent Street and Exeter Street are all affected. The nature of the incident has not yet been confirmed, and it is not known how long the closures will remain in place.

Can someone offer advice please?

Hi everyone,

My 2 bedroom semi-detached bungalow in a south of Derby village with a south facing garden with fields behind.

Wondering what people would change to help it sell?

I do need new lounge photos as there is now a dining table when the kids corner is in the pictures..

Any advice welcome, please!
