So let me get this straight - Dia Price plans and overall meaning as a product

So let me get this straight - Dia Price plans and overall meaning as a product

I’m sure all of you saw the post with the new Dia price plans yesterday, it seems like the page is still being inactive for now, but oh boy they’re coming

My question now, after seeing this, is how on Earth they’re going to justify spending $100 on a browser with AI capabilities when their whole product idea to ditch Arc was precisely doing an AI browser, lighter and focused on using AI on the side to help the user perform tasks. Now their whole product differentiator is locked behind an absurd paywall (no one is going to spend $100 in Dia, and if they’re eager to do it, they’ll just pay Claude).

One can think that AI is expensive, and must be paid somehow, and I agree to a point, but here’s why I think this decision today makes zero sense:

Dia is just a Claude skin on a browser

Dia has no AI proprietary models, up to this day, and this is ridiculous. You’re telling me that your whole reason to exist, a browser using AI functionalities, is still relying on external AI providers?????

How on Earth have you not already invested all the funding you received in developing your own models??? Maybe having your own AI, tailored to the browser and not cloud dependent, done on device, would help you reduce costs and make a difference with, for example, the day Anthropic would release their own browser and have the same experience, but only you don’t have to pay extra to have it. They had such a long time to do so, and many months repeating that “new functionalities every week”, but the harsh truth is that they have released “Spaces” after more than a year.

A browser is not a product you would pay this money for

Let’s be clear here, a browser is not a good starting point for a paid product idea. There are a lot, they are free, and more are coming (also open source). Dia’s whole rationale is based on good UX, polished UI, and AI. Now you’re stripping your core value, and you’ve got only good aesthetics and smoothness.

Is that good? Sure

Is it enough to keep growing without product ideas around your AI main reason-to-exist? No

I’m not sure what’s the price a browser would be fair to pay to, if everything was great. I use Mimestream, a Gmail MacOS client, paying $59 a year. One can think that why are you paying so much for just an email client, use the default one.

But Mimestream is all about delivering an experience that cannot be matched by Google’s one Gmail webpage. That’s their value proposition, and you pay because you knew from the start what you’re going to get.

Día was free at the beginning, they didn’t know (or couldn’t) figure out how to develop their own in-house AI models to avoid relying too much on external AI providers, and now they expect us to pay this much for something that was indeed the reason why the product exists, and Arc is being discontinued.

I’m sorry, but no.

I’m sad to see this, I’ve been a Dia user from day one, but it seems that they’re really out of touch with the real world. I’ll stick with my Free version, and start looking for a better experience.

That’s just how the market goes.

What is The Browser Company even doing?

I am genuinely confused, like, it’s not just “I think this a weird decision they made” anymore it’s genuinely what is wrong with this company bro

I like Dia, not for the AI features but because it looks nice on macOS.

But how does this company keep making these decisions dude, like, seriously I’m baffled.

Can someone please just tell me one successful thing they did since killing Arc? Ever since Dia was launched it’s been “OK we’re trying to fix things” *ruins things more* “OK we’re trying to fix things” *ruins things more* and it’s a cycle

And now cherry on top is they are paywalling the AI features, of the AI browser that was supposed to take Arc to the next level with AI… (after introducing paywalls already then removing them)

I am genuinely asking, has TBC literally done anything successful after Dia launch that wasn’t either trying to make it on par with Arc or a little thing that literally weighs nothing compared to the damage they’ve done to themselves? I literally can’t think of one time they did something successful after Arc it just seems like damage control since then

What $20 gets you in ChatGPT vs in Dia

$20 ChatGPT Plus:

- functionally unlimited chats with Sol with expert levels Instant -> Medium -> High

- 1,200+ plugins (I'm not exaggerating)

- can actually send emails/set gcal events

- extremely aggressive personalization and memory

- the best OpenAI currently has to offer

- Codex & ChatGPT Work

- Browser Use

- Computer Use

- Clear and generous limits (esp if you mostly use Luna Max)

- ChatGPT Extension in (almost) any chromium browser making ur browser an ai browser

- Mobile app with access to Work and Codex so your work NEVER stops

- Voice if you like the Jarvis vibe

- Literally updates across Codex, Work, ChatGPT, etc every week and model updates every 1-2 months

- so much more that I don't even use

$20 Dia 'Better Answers':

- Limited chats with literally whatever dogshit effort level they are setting these models to that makes them so lobotimized

- 5 useful plugins and change

- cannot send emails or make events even though Old Chat did it easily

- lost the personalization/memory features from old chat, there's only browser history and 7 days of chat history now

- sub-frontier models

- the agentic capabilities of GPT 3.5

- Opaque and suspicious limits ('Tasks'???)

- Basic ai chat with lobotimized Opus 4.8 (not even Opus 5)

- away from your mac = bye bye Dia

- new features once a month, and model updates whenever they feel like it

- that's literally it

Which genius thought of this pricing?

How can I export bookmarks in Dia?

I'm really disappointed with Dia's new pricing plan, so I've decided to switch to another browser. Does anyone know how to export bookmarks from Dia? I've looked everywhere but can't seem to find the option. Any help would be appreciated!

How do I disable Dia AI? It's really annoying

Every time I search for something Dia just defaults to its AI prompt, I literally just searched "Google Docs", how does it not know this is clearly not a prompt and I just want to open Google Docs, and several times I just accidentally open the damn AI window, which I NEVER want to open, I don't want to use it, is there a way to purge this feature and just remove it completely, I searched on the settings and I couldn't find anything, its really annoying.

New Dia pricing plans

The new plans are divided into 3 tiers:

- Better browser, which is free and gives you access to no AI features

- Better answers, which costs $20/month and gives you access to basic Dia AI features (connectors, ask on page, tab context)

- Better days, which costs $100/month and gives you access to advanced Dia AI features (morning briefs, reports/decks, x6 more usage)

These will start rolling out on August 17th for Mac users only and we’ll be given a 30-day notice before our free AI features are removed.

All my folders are.. gone?

I just read into it and found out that this is intended behavior, still, here is my crashout about this product decision.

Why would you let me do all the work, create groups, customize names, pick a color, even pick icons, when they disappear into the void as soon as I close the browser?

I just created multiple groups with all of the tools that I use on a daily basis, neatly organized. Quick restart of Dia, and all of it is gone. I looked through the settings to see if this is some weird quirk that I accidentally enabled, and i found this: what is this setting even for, when nothing is preserved? Also, who would ever want their groups, that they probably spent a good amount organizing / customizing on, to be automatically closed, like ever?

https://preview.redd.it/5nmmhdrnmwjh1.png?width=778&format=png&auto=webp&s=d149b68bde2f3fd304ee3ad539d090a2b8cb470a

From what I can see, tab groups are already excluded from the automatic tab closing (if this wasn't the case, i would have just uninstalled Dia).

My workaround to this is to simply never close Dia at all, which will be a stress-test to any possible memory leaks. Would be great if this could be reconsidered - thanks.

your thoughts on Dia top bar

Hello, I was a pretty happy Arc user but since TBC decided to focus on Dia and Arc started feeling unmaintained, I made the switch to Dia. I'm mostly happy with it except for one thing - the top bar containing URL with chat and navigation buttons. With it gone, I wouldn't have any problem with Dia. In my opinion the top bar takes up website space for no reason. Instead, it could be moved to the side bar as it is in Arc when using vertical tabs and integrated into the top bar when using horizontal tabs. I would make the browser less cluttered imo. What are your thoughts on this?

Draining Battery

Is it only me or does Dia drain everyone's battery? I will charge my MacBook and the minute I start using Dia for work or watching a show / movie, my MacBook heats up and battery starts to drain quickly.

I'm just going to switch back to Helium at this point. I really loved that they brought back Profiles and I loved the daily briefs.

Dia crashes all the time

As much as I like Dia, it's just annoying that it crashes all the time. Every time I open Dia, it freezes after a few seconds or minutes, and I have to force quit it. After that, it works fine.

I’d say this happens every second time I open the browser, and it’s been going on for months - several times a day. IT’S SO ANNOYING!

Does this happen to you guys, too?

Chat + tab sync not working across Windows and Mac — Early Access thing?

Hey everyone,

I use Dia on both Windows and macOS, signed into the same account on both, with Sync enabled. Running into two things and curious if others have the same experience:

  1. Chat conversations don’t carry over. If I ask Dia something in the chat on Windows (like asking it to save my open links), I can’t find that conversation or its output on my Mac at all. The chats seem to live only on the device where I made them.
  2. Tab sync isn’t working. The “Your Devices” section (open tabs from other synced devices) doesn’t show my tabs across machines, even with Sync on for both.

My questions for the community:

  • Is chat history just not synced by design? If so, how do you carry a saved list of links between devices — bookmarks? tab groups?
  • Could the tab sync issue be because Dia for Windows is still in Early Access? Or is this a known bug / something I should be able to fix on my end?

Anyone else seeing this? Thanks!
